I today went for a brain MRI scan, really not something I was looking forward to. From booking appointment with reception to attending the experience was faultless. I would like to specifically mention Chiara (hopefully correct spelling), her manner and care which completely put my mind at rest and made a, not so nice experience, tolerable.
My first experience of an MRI unit was excellent. Lovely staff that explain everything in detail and put you at ease, clean and pleasant environment and quick turnaround times. I was in and out within 40 minutes of my appointment time. The scan was comfortable and they kept checking I was ok. It can be very loud and the tight space might present a problem for claustrophobic people, be sure to mention any concerns before you lie down and are put into the machine! However once in there, the procedure just consists of lying still through some very loud noises. The staff check up on you every few minutes and you have a squeezy emergency switch to use in case you feel uncomfortable or unwell. One suggestion could be to draw/paint something on the inside of the machine to keep the patient's eyes busy looking at some sort of picture/drawing, as it gets very very dull in there. I was only inside the machine for maybe 20 minutes, but it felt much much longer!
