I gave birth at Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital two weeks ago and wanted to share an honest review of my experience. Pros: * Staff acted very quickly throughout my labour. * I was admitted to the labour ward promptly after triage as I progressed in labour * Epidural was administered very quickly, which I was grateful for. * The doctors were amazing, especially when I had to go to theatre. A special thank you to Dr George & Dr Rhiann, and my lovely midwife Ann Patt, as well as all the theatre staff including the anaesthetists. * Partners are allowed to stay overnight on the postnatal ward, which was a huge positive. Cons: * The biggest downside for me was the complete lack of breastfeeding support when I asked for it. I personally received no help at all. * One midwife on the postnatal ward had noticeable attitude problems. One night, when I asked for a formula bottle because I was struggling with breastfeeding and hadn’t received any support, I was told I should have brought my own formula and that they “don’t just give them out.” Her tone felt very unkind and unnecessary. She then gave me a Cow & Gate bottle. When I explained that I had already been given SMA formula in the recovery ward, she told me that was all she had and walked off. Thankfully, a much kinder midwife overheard the interaction and went out of her way to get me an SMA bottle. Overall, while the medical care during labour and theatre was excellent, the postnatal support—especially around feeding—was disappointing and inconsistent.

I had my baby girl at Queen Charlottes hospital. As someone who had a fear of childbirth after seeing my mum almost go during her childbirth to my sister. It was so crucial that i was somewhere i felt safe. From beginning to end, ALL the midwives (even if different every time) made me feel heard, seen and safe. They were kind, gentle and listened to me. The doctors were also very professional, kind and thorough which helped when my blood results were sometimes showing elevations here and there. On the day of my childbirth, i was in labour for over 30 hours, I was 8cm dilated and due to baby heart rate dropping suddenly needed an emergency c section. The doctors, midwives acted FAST, gave me and my husband clear information which helped us understand the situation. There was also a female doctor/surgeon who was so helpful to me when I was feeling overwhelmed in the theatre. Despite everything, not once did I feel in danger, i felt that my baby was being monitored appropriately and my baby girl joined us earthbound at 9:36am. Why 4* and not 5*? Because unfortunately, during my labour, it was so packed and so little space that I had to stay completely unmedicated in the antenatal ward until I got to 4-5cm dilated (induced btw so VERY PAINFUL!). And also because during a need for a speculum in the Triage (since I had pelvic sensitivity which in the end was fine), I waited bottomless for an hour as I was waiting on the bed for the doctor to come back with tools for speculum but instead was abandoned for an hour, my husband in the waiting room, so by myself in a bed and nobody told me he was called to the labor ward until I dressed up again and came out crying. Whilst everyone was still kind, it was clearly both a bad case of lack of resources, space and taking on too many patients beyond the hospitals capacity.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to one of your midwives, Paulina Senu, who provided truly exceptional care today at triage. She is an outstanding example of what a midwife should be; compassionate, professional, and deeply knowledgeable. Throughout my pregnancy, I have met several midwives, and while most have been good, this particular midwife stood out in every way. She showed genuine empathy, took time to answer all of my questions thoroughly, and went above and beyond to make sure I felt informed and supported. Her dedication and commitment to her work were evident in every interaction. The hospital is incredibly lucky to have someone of her calibre on the team. She is a credit to the profession and deserves recognition for the exceptional care she provides.

Maternity triage is dangerous, currently waited for from 2:30pm and have been told to wait for the night doctor that comes at 9pm. No update, no care just sat my wife down for hours with cramps and chest pain. Coming here feels like putting your baby at risk. The day nurses weren’t any help the night nurse showed more empathy but couldn’t really help as the day doctor wanted to leave asap and the night doctor was going to take an hour. Hopeless and dangerous place. I tried to talk to someone to complain but they told me there’s no one to complain too. This place is a mess. I would’ve loved to have spoken to someone in charge pregnant women need to be treated better.

I had an amazing experience with my midwife, SKYE . She was incredibly supportive, kind, and professional throughout the entire process. During labour, she stayed by my side the whole time, offering both emotional and physical support, which made a huge difference for me. Even after the birth, she continued to check in on us regularly, making sure both baby and I were doing well. I truly felt cared for, respected, and safe in her hands. I’m so grateful to have had Skye as my midwife — she made a difficult experience so much more positive and empowering. Thank you,SKYE ! The rest of the staff were also absolutely wonderful. Everyone was so helpful, caring, and supportive. From the nurses to the healthcare assistants, they all made me feel comfortable and well looked after. I’m truly thankful to the whole team for their kindness and professionalism during such an important moment in my life.

I had my baby at queen's charllote on the 03.02.2023 and I can't fault the hospital on anything. All staff were brilliant from the moment that we walked in until when we were discharged. Antenatal clinic could work a little bit better as there's constant delays for midwife appointments but other than that, I can't complain about anything. We had amazing care... Baby was suspected to be really tiny so the hospital booked extra scans and was on top of everything. We always felt really reassured. In the end the doctors from the fetal care department decided that it would be best for baby to be delivered between 38-39 weeks as baby was on the 7 centile (suspected sga) and wasn't putting enough weight, according to the grow scans. The doctors gave me the option of booking an induction or c-section so I ended up booking an elective c-section. Before my c-section I got a call from the surgeon that was going to perform the surgery, he was really reassuring and took away any doubts I had. On the c-section morning when we got to the hospital, everything was ready for us. All staff looked really calm and everything looked really clean. During the c-section I was told and explained everything while it was happening. On the Edith dare ward the staff was also amazing and we were even given a private room which made our stay a lot more comfortable. The only thing in my opinion the hospital should do is to provide mini fridges to parents so people can store their formula and any food they have. West middlesex hospital provides this and it makes life a lot easier but other than that we got no complains. For anyone worried about choosing this hospital, don't be!

Professional and amazing staff, midwives and doctors who helped us deliver our baby. Reason for the 1 star could be extreme, but I want the attention of administration of NHS to resolve this problem. Right after labour we were moved to Edith Dare ward where there were four parents in a one room separated by curtains. This creates a very distressing environment for all parents as babies cry, some people are loud and some snore heavily while you are trying to put your baby to sleep. I want this to be a constructive feedback, with a wonderful and supportive staff if this infrastructure problem is resolved this would be a thousand times better experience for parents who have been through a lot just before admitting into this ward.

I wouldn’t normally review a hospital, but after having read some reviews before having my planned c section at QCH, felt like it was good to share my positive experience. I had a planned c-section, and despite having to wait a wee while due to other emergencies had an incredible experience. The staff were m friendly, knowledgable and supportive - really put my mind at ease before, during band after the operation which actually went by super quickly. My husband got to stay with me the whole time and on ward afterwards to support me and baby. Staff help with breastfeeding/bottle feeding depending on what you choose, and any other questions which is helpful as a first time mum. I stayed in ward for only 25 hours afterwards (1 night), and was able to go home after baby had a couple of check overs in the morning and you as mum can walk around a bit. I’d definitely recommend you bring snacks for you and your birth partner as the food is not amazing and they don’t cater for partners understandably ☺️

I am very grateful and happy to say that my daughter was born in this hospital and I had the best possible care. All the professionals who attended me were attentive and responsible. Much more than five stars!
