We started with the Kensington Wing (midwife led) but were so disappointed with the quality and consistency of care, and frustrated by the disorganized reception team that made simple tasks like booking appointments difficult, we switched to the NHS at 28 weeks and were so thankful we did. We also had a poor experience following our complaint and request to transition to the NHS. No one seemed to be responsible and it took 6 weeks and constant chasing to get replies to our concerns /a part refund. We did not experience anywhere near the standard of care we expected from a private healthcare provider. The NHS care we received by comparison was incredible! Paying to have our baby at the Kensington Wing would have been a total waste of money.

I was under the care of Matt Cauldwell from 10 weeks and our baby girl was safely delivered via elective c section at KW. The support and care was incredible from every member of staff, from receptionists to the midwives and support workers who were all kind and compassionate. Each time we stepped foot in KW my husband noted how calm it is. We stayed two nights in the suite and it was the most special bubble to bond with our baby and possibly the quietest place in the whole of central London. Matt was calm, patient, a proactive listener and provided clear explanations, combining his own experience and evidence based research, to help us with every decision. Matt really got to know us and would always choose his words carefully to ensure we understood the important points and weren’t overwhelmed by unnecessary detail. Matt was always available via WA and very responsive. Everything was seamless among the team and we never had to (re)explain ourselves and what was needed. I had to go in for some urgent tests on a weekend and by the time I got to KW, Matt had already asked the team to expect me and communicated what was required. When results were ready the team called Matt on the spot to discuss next steps, and Matt then separately messaged me to confirm. The c section itself was the most perfect experience and I would not hesitate going back to KW and Matt for future pregnancies. Andrea (Midwife) and Mark Cox (Anaesthetist) and the rest of the dream team made me and my husband feel calm and relaxed so we could be fully present throughout. Thank you so much to the team.

My wife and I still discuss the traumatic experience we had at the Kensington Wing last year. The postpartum care in particular, by the midwives, was absolutely appalling. When we discussed the care with the NHS midwives they were also shocked by the treatment my wife received. I truly believe we would have had a better experience on the NHS. It is absolutely disgusting and shameful the way you treat women.

Didn’t even make it to my initial appointment. I was first booked for a phone consultation with a midwife, during which she asked detailed questions about my pregnancy and then scheduled me for a face-to-face appointment. My husband and I both took a day off work and travelled all the way to the hospital, only to be told there was no booking in the system. Instead of admitting a mistake or acknowledging possible system issues, the staff tried to gaslight me into believing I had never spoken to the midwife or booked an appointment at all. This was not only deeply unprofessional but also incredibly disrespectful of our time, effort, and trust. Such negligence over something so basic makes me worry about the level of care in more serious situations later in pregnancy. I am now considering another private hospital. Advice to others: If you choose this hospital, call and double-check repeatedly that your appointment is actually in their system. It may save you time, stress, and disappointment — no pregnant woman should have to go through the frustration of being turned away after making such an effort.

Throughout the pregnancy the care/appointments were well. During and after the birth however we experienced a few things that weren’t to our expectation and /or caused unnecessary admin. The room we stayed in was way too warm and had little ventilation. This room was far the warmest at the backend of the hallway. We had to stay eventually a couple of nights whilst expectations were set that we could leave a day earlier. Little one was doing fine but had dropped some weight, but this was only day 2 post emergency c-section (&antibiotics for mum) and was within the guidelines. Once home, we received multiple invoices from consultants, the Kensington wing team etc. Via different channels which was confusing and didn’t allow for an efficient payment process. The cost were also not aligned to the original expectation and almost 75% higher due to the add-ons of consultant fees etc on top de “package” cost.

We stayed in an amenity room after delivery on the NHS. Rooms are tired (light bulbs not working and towel rail broken off) and the staff are hit and miss. Some great whilst some shared worrying opinions (I.e too many women are wimping out and having c sections or epidurals). Admin is terrible - they discharged us without the red book, said they would put it in the post and never bothered which caused issues with midwives and health visitors. So you need to be on it to make sure your needs are properly handed over between shifts. It’s a lot better than the ward but management and admin needs to seriously improve for the price they charge.
