One of the cheapest dorm that I've found, initially for 4 nights stay but i extended for almost a week! Why? first, it's affordable & cheap. second, I'm pretty satisfied with the basics provided in the hostel: decent room & toilets, dining area, cooking space and free simple breakfast!! third, staff are pretty kind. fourth, i felt safe & comfortable inside the room! the location is also pretty close to both New Cross Gate train station & Marquis of Granby bus stop, so yea it's pretty accessible with public transport. there's also small park nearby, and few halal places nearby. it looks pretty meh & somewhat eerie from the outside, but yeah overall the inside of the hostel - are all pretty decent. trust me. to girl travellers, do let them know you need a female dorm else you'll get the mixed dorm 🫣 ps: good for budget traveller, price might be differ and bit higher during weekend/festive/holiday. but still considering the price + hv breakfast, i still consider it's affordable. pss: DO NOT EXPECT EXTRAVAGANT STUFF AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, it's a decent place to stay. will definitely come here again if I'll be looking for a pretty decent place in future!

I have been here twice, once 2-3 years ago for 3 months, and I'm here now and have been for 2 months. And will come again in the new year, and in future years. The place has improved a lot in those years I was gone, and I'm sure will continue to. The people who work at NX are extremely nice, and have a positive culture, and always helpful. The 2 cleaners are amazing at their job, and believe me that is needed sometimes, some people are so careless leaving disgusting messes for everyone (in kitchen, and bathroom), but it goes away the next day. The hostel is comprised of long terms stayees, medium terms (like me), and short terms. the place is quirky, it has breakfast, the price reflects the fact that the place is still being developed, and I see the vision, I look forward to coming back in future years to see what more changes. I've not broken any rules so I've never been in those experiences that a lot of negative reviewers experience. But if the simple rules are followed, like not being drunk, or unruly, or eating food in the rooms etc.. then expect a positive experience, I really do not have anything negative to say. NX has seasonal discounts, and goldsmiths student discounts (10%), I am a student of goldsmiths. By the way the place is kinda perfect for goldsmith students, I've stayed in 2 different Goldsmith dorms, Loring, and Surrey House, NX is right across the street to the Library, much easier for me personally. I think NX should brand more for Goldsmiths students slowly over time, as a long term project, maybe developing some student rooms slowly, and perhaps in time a student culture can develop which may attract new business opportunities that students bring to the table. And when NX is in final stage of completion, it could also bring proposal to Goldsmith, who have an issue with housing students, and only guarantee first year student housing, and also money issues (the uni that is), , I'm sure they will consider it on condition that NX is on par with regulatory standards, which are not strict (believe me). Due to my circumstance, I'm guaranteed housing with Goldsmith throughout my whole education, I still see NX as good as any student dorm I've been too, except of course it's a hostel and not a private room, and the lack of students, being the only relevant differences. anyway It is what it is, and it's a nice place. edit: cos i read some other reviews: and there was a bed bug experience 2-3 years ago, I personally didn't get any, but the room was cleared for room de-bugging, and that was that, if I had bed bugs, I'd be grossed out too, but the sheets are cleaned, you can see them being cleaned after changing cos the room where they are cleaned is usually open when the cleaning ladies clean them. You can request new sheets, as I have, but not for bed bugs, just cos I've had them for a month and they needed changing. And the music is loud at night on most days, but that's cos it's next to a small concert venue, there's a warning on the website about it. the staff is not rude, and if they were I suspect they were very busy, and you took it as rude, or/and you were just being rude yourself. there's 2 to 3 bathrooms on each floor, so when someone says there's not enough bathrooms, it's not like a room will suddenly appear magically , and a new bathroom comes into existence, yes sometimes it's annoying, but if you check each floor there's usually a bathroom free, in fact always in my experience, there's literally like 8 or 10 bathrooms across the whole building. And the bathrooms can end up gross cos there's gross people amongst all people, it is gone the next day, the cleaning ladies do their job well. and I like the bathrooms, they feel like a bathroom in a home, and not a urinal at a bar. I've been to other hostels years back, many, in London, and the bathrooms in NX are actually better, there's more space, there's a toilet, and a shower in the majority, it's homely, and I genuinely appreciate that about the place.

BED BUGS!!! The management of this hostel is awful, I feel sorry for the staff which was always friendly and helpful, but they had limitations. The place is very dirty, I saw mice twice and I suspect the bedding isn’t properly washed or even changed from guest to guest. I booked a 4-bed room, thinking it would be better since there’s less people, but it was completely the opposite. There were bedbugs from eggs to mature ones all over the room, only myself and another guest were staying in there, so the receptionist was very nice to put us in a private room. The problem is that when we woke up the next day, the night receptionist mixed up our clothes in black bags, some stuff was missing and some other was in the hallway outside the laundry room, where anyone could access it. We doubted that he had washed everything at 60oC (which is the protocol to kill bedbugs), so we asked to wash our clothes again, but one more time the person in charge didn’t wash at the proper temperature and their tumble dryer wasn’t working, they were using a wash & dry machine, so our clothes were damp. We sent an email to the management asking if we could proper wash & dry our clothes in an external laundry service and if they could cover the costs, and they responded very defensive saying we were lying about the hostel having bedbugs, said that anyway bedbugs weren’t considered as a health issue since they don’t spread diseases and threaten to charge us a fine if we took pictures of the place and made public “false” complaints, they have a strange non-refund policy regardless the reason of request and also about taking photos/videos of the hostel. In resume, they know the problem they are facing, but instead of dealing with that professionally, they simply ignore it and are rude to people that express their dissatisfaction. It’s a shame because the hostel is well located, the staff is nice and the breakfast is great for the price, there would be a lot of potential if the management cared about their guests and business.

I've made a booking at this hostel. I've called the property the previous day asking if it was possible to do an early check in, to which I was told yes, for an additional cost of £10. When I went to the property and rang the door, I was greated by a rude individual screaming at me saying that check in was only at 4pm, and slammed the door on my face. I rang the door again, he came out again screaming, I tried to tell him that I was there to do an early check in, and that I've spoken with his colleague the previous night, but he said that he didn't care, and that he was busy, and even threatened that if I wanted to check in, that I shouldn't bother again before 4pm, otherwise I wouldn't be allowed to check in later on. I've asked to speak with a manager, and he told me that he was "the boss" and he slammed the door. A couple of minutes later he opened the door again whilst I was on the phone contacting Agoda, the agency I made the booking, and told me to come back, maybe in half an hour. During that time I've complained to the Agoda agency, and they told me that they would get in touch with the property about my complaint. While I was waiting for the agency to get back to me, I decided try again since an hour had passed. I've went back to the hostel, which another individual came to the door, and I've told him about the early check in, and he said it was only from 4pm and that they were busy. I've told him that I've spoked with one of his colleagues last night that guaranteed to me that the early check in was possible on arrival. He then starts giving me attitude, and saying that early check in has to be done in advance anyway, which contradicts what I was told by their colleague on the phone, and by the one that was rude to me by the door. He then tells me that he can only keep my luggage in the office, and if I didn't like it, that I can just come and check in by 4pm. To at that point I just told him that I wouldn't be checking in anymore, that I would go somewhere else. He even had the nerve to tell me not to book with them ever again. The rudeness and unprofessionalism from this place is beyond ridiculous! Obviously I would never book there again. The Agoda agency, failed to sort out the issue for me, claiming that it was the hostel's policy not to give refunds. Which to me is not acceptable, to mistreat customers, and then hide behind a refund policy. I've managed to book another hostel last minute. But I'll definitely be pursuing a refund and file a complaint. They should not be allowed to treat guests however they feel like, and then claim no refunds when presenting a terrible service, or simply failing to provide that service whilst being aggressively rude. I've paid for my booking, and I was treated like I was an inconvenience to them, and that they were doing me a favour, like I would be staying there for free. The uncivilised rude employees were most likely living there, with zero customer service experience, and very unprofessional

My original plan to London fell through and I found this place at the last minute. I wouldn’t recommend this place. It’s a cheap place to stay but not for long term. There’s a subway station just 8 minutes walk and a TK Maxx and Sainsburry. There is a plethora of places to eat. I left because of the noise and the people were just nasty. There’s a pub next door and they play live music every night from 7-2am which makes it difficult to sleep. Also there is not air conditioning in rooms so we slept with the window open and our room faced traffic so every car including police sirens which there was quite a lot we felt it. I stayed with the males. I was the only female in a room filled with 5 guys. Housekeeping is below standard. The bathroom smelled that I took a can disaffecting spray with me. Also some of the guess didn’t flush after using the bathroom. They will wipe their behind after they defecate and drop the toilet paper in the trash rather flushing it. WiFi is free and fast. Laundry is offered for 7 pounds. Breakfast is free but it’s basic. No alcohol is allowed and no food or drinks in rooms. The linen are over used that there is discoloration. I didn’t trust the bed sheets and house keeping so I bought my own sheets at Sainsburry and sprayed the comforter with disinfectant spray

DO NOT GO HERE! We arrived after arranging an early check in, and were left outside for 20 minutes, after a man abruptly answered the intercom and was very rude. We sat waiting for him to check us in standing outside with all our bags. Another man, who was staying at the hostel, asked politely if we needed help and told us to use the doorbell button. We said we already did. As soon as he assisted us, the man who answered the intercom came downstairs yelling at the man who told us about the button. He was unreasonable, belligerent, and seemed intoxicated. He berated the man so badly it was shocking. He then kicked him out and carried his stuff outside. It was so horrible to witness as we were still left standing there. His reasoning was that the man who stopped to help us wasn’t supposed to be helping guests - all he did was show us a button. We were so uncomfortable and felt unsafe, we told the man we were leaving and he started arguing at us. As three women, I highly recommend not stay here - it is not safe and was the most unprofessional thing I have ever seen. It is negligent to have this person running a business or in charge of anything. He has no professionalism, rational, customer service or competency - also perhaps on drugs/ mental ill. Be ware solo or young female travelers. As we stood outside waiting for an Uber other guests told us of his bizarre behavior and being the victim of his temper.

If you're on a budget then this place pretty much can meet your needs, not everything you might want but everything you need, the most important being if did feel safe there's CCTV and staff around and everyone gets IDd as they check in. Next most important rooms are clean, and at night are dark and quiet enough and beds are ok comfy. I slept well. Loads of places to eat for as low as £5 nearby open till late, loads of places to grab a drink and good access to central London on overground to London Bridge, if you coming back late you probably need to get a bus but they are reasonably frequent. You can also put your stuff in a locker here which is very useful.

I finally arrived at the hostel at 3am after a long night in London customs. Thankfully a staff member was awake and let me in pass check in time. Slept soundly till check out. The morning staff member was more than happy to store my luggage while I explored the university museum next door. Staff was 10 out of 10! Joyful attitudes. Place is a on the older so fair warning it is several stairs up to the dorms. For the price and location, its a nice place!

Cannot recommend to a friend. Poorly decorated. Poor reception - why not have someone there when most people are checking out at 8-10am?? Took an HOUR to check in and be show to our room. The receptionist was highly stressed. Beds were uncomfy. Our nearest toilet was 2 floors away and there was such a queue it was a joke. Took ages (3 emails & 2 phone calls) to get the key deposit back. Not great.

Very rundown and dirty. Toilet/showers look like they are from the 60’s and are also very filthy. Also don’t expect a lot of sleept because of 1. Really poor beds 2. Loud music from the Pub downstairs till 3.30 am. It’s cheap but it is definitely not worth it. Place needs a thorough renovation.
