There’s no doubt this is a two star hotel, but it’s still very pleasant! What they lack in modernity they make up for in cleanliness. I was sincerely impressed with how clean it was — not a single spec of dust my room.

Very, very basic, but clean. Receptionist was friendly. Convenient as just across the road from King's Cross Station. Which also makes it very noisy as close to Super-busy road. So, only for a practical stop over, not to take your girlfriend or family.

Cockroach in my room, only saw this on the morning I was leaving. The rooms was tiny. The smell of bleach in the lobby was overwhelming, I had to sit in the lobby/reception to get internet as my room being on the top floor the internet did not reach. I won’t be back. Even for the location. This is a relic of a hotel and is in urgent need of modernising.

Absolutely filthy. Perfect location but I booked this under the impression of getting a four star hotel. No breakfast, cockroaches in the bathroom, only a bed a TV and a shower. Literatur nothing else, no shampoo, hairdryer, etc. Would never go there again. Was in 7-22 meetings otherwise I would've immediately changed hotels.

My 2* review is not a negative one, but more reflective of the star rating that I believe the hotel deserves. It is marketed as a 4 star which is not correct, it is closer to 1-2 star. The Carlton is in an excellent location, you can see King’s Cross station from your window. If you’re looking for somewhere to merely rest your head for the night without spending a fortune, it is perfect. The lady at reception was friendly and allowed us to check in early which we were grateful for as we had a busy day. The rooms are very basic, quite dated and in need of renovation. Aside from that, you have everything you need: a comfortable bed, hot shower with soap provided, towels, a kettle with coffee/tea, small tv and a fridge. I paid £65 for a double room which I think is a bargain for central london. Please note this was a small double bed not a regular double. Some downsides that I think should probably be mentioned: hallways smell of cigarettes, lift only takes 1 person, there are no internal locks on the doors, shower has bad water pressure so comes out slow, rooms could be a bit cleaner as dusty in places but not that bad, there was no drinkable water in the room as the “drinking water tap” did not work.

I think I saw the worst hotel already, but this one is definitely the winner. Staff is friendly - no complaints at all, rooms are very small, furniture is from SSSR time. 4 persons, only 2 towels, heating is not working, WIFI is not working, TV is smaller than your hand. The only thing that saving this hotel is really nice and convenient location, other than that is absolutely horrible. I will not complain it beacuse thats what I want to be in the center of London, but still.

Overpriced, not even including breakfast. The "clean water" tap was locked, which made us feel very uneasy about drinking the other water. The boiler was.. nasty, it didn't look like it was cleaned in a very long time. The room's ventilation was a joke, the window could barely be opened to reduce condensation. The end result was we were drenched in sweat overnight and thirsty

I needed one night in London before catching a Eurostar, so I needed a hotel near Kings Cross/ St Pancras. The hotel was near both, check in was 14:00. My room was nice, clean. The bed was confortable, & I had a good night sleep. The bathroom was small but nice, & the hot water really hot. On the whole it was value for money.

Unclean, very humid and hot rooms (even during cooler weather). We were on the basement floor without proper ventilation and therefore the room smelt mouldy and dank. Wifi was unreliable. All of this would have been excusable for the price, however… One morning we discovered chew marks on chocolates we had bought! The next morning we were awoken by clear rustling in the room. There is no doubt in our minds that there is a mouse problem at this hotel. When mentioned to staff, they were dismissive and without sympathy, let alone consideration of a refund or compensation. They told us to bring it up at checkout but we received the same response from those staff. Totally unimpressed with our experience here- obviously this is a 2 star hotel but we didn’t think that a mouse-free room was too much to ask!

The location was the best part about this place. The price of £105 for a double room in Central London should and would be the warning. The hotel was rundown and decor very tired. We were checked in quickly by the staff and then led through what seemed a back alley to a dark staircase and told to go to the third floor.... The stairs went on forever and when we reached our room it was clean and tidy, but small, very small... There is a tiny TV and a mini fridge, wardrobe and of course the double bed. The bathroom and shower is nothing short of a broom cupboard. Two people cant go in the bathroom together and it's a difficulty sitting on the toilet as the sink is in your way. It's a kind of twist to the side! I'd recommend it for what it is a cheap overnight stop before moving on, don't stay for more than a night unless your doing London on the cheap....
