   Lovely location, close to a Londis and met some really nice people. The guest houses felt homely and the tv had apps like Netflix/Youtube. However, due to faulty plug outlet that caused a fire and the lack of help that we received from the owner Jon, we will not return to Ottley’s guest house again. There were also used products left over from previous stays. Once returning from a concert in London being the reason we stayed at around 1am, we were blamed for starting the electrical fire even though we hadn’t plugged anything into that socket at all . We had to call Jon 3 times between the hours of 1:30am- 2:30am before he even considered to come and check on us/the room even though we had told him there was black smoke and fire coming from the outlet. We were told to “not touch it” and “leave it be” until the morning which is utterly ridiculous considering the extent of the fumes in the room. When he eventually did come at 2:45am he was still very accusing of us and stated he “hadn’t seen anything like this happen before” and asking “well what have you plugged into it”, he ended up leaving at 3:05am. We are under the impression that he was aware of this faulty socket considering as soon as we walked into the room when we arrived we were greeted by the smell of burning fish coming from that same outlet and he kept asking “what did you plug into it” which again, makes us think he was aware of the faulty electrical socket. We are very disappointed by our experience as we had high hopes about it and were very excited about our stay initially. We received a half price refund after being accused yet again and being told “i don’t believe what you are saying and you just want your money back” even though he came to our room eventually and witnessed the situation we were in. At 3:15am we ended up pulling out some wooden chairs into the ‘lobby’ area to try and sleep and be away from the smell, but after 45 uncomfortable minutes we ended up packing and getting ready to leave and then at 4:15am trying to sleep in the room with the smell and fumes for the rest of the night. As he turned all of the electrics off, we had no way of charging our phones which died eventually. We woke up in the morning with a blocked nose and a sore throat and very sore chest which has effected my asthma a great amount which we told Jon and he said “there was no smell, i have a sensitive nose and i would have smelt it too”. Overall we are severely unhappy as all of our belongings now smell like fish and burning. If we had access to a car we would have left very early hours in the morning but couldn’t as there is no taxi rank and it’s a very long walk in the dark to the nearest underground. Jon did let us charge our phones in his house after back and forth texting. In conclusion, it was a very bad night, and we are left extremely upset, tired and smelling of burnt fish.

   I had a fabulous stay at Ottley guest house, it was A good price and John was very helpful, Welcoming and friendly. He couldn’t do enough for you. As well there was a beautiful walk over the road. Where I walked with my little dog and a great cafe a short walk up the road. All dog friendly. I will definitely go back.

   clean room lovely shower,owner v.pleasent,and I had mentioned on phone when booking that I always bring pot noodle to eat,and upon arrival their was two porridge pots for breakfast and two pot noodles which was a nice touch,I will stay here again

   I was moved to another (inferior) room on my last night. I was not informed and had the embarrassment of walking in to what was then someone else's room, luckily no one was there but it was still an unpleasant experience.

   We stayed two nights and had a water leak the first night and were moved to an alternative room. Generally the accomodation was very poor. Bed linen was old unironed and undesirable. Pillows flat. The bathroom was dangerous with rough edged steps and stained shower base black mould inbetween tiles and old black silicone. Dubious electrics with extension leads running everywhere. Washing machine and drier background noise. This is probably the worst accomodation I have stayed in.
