I have been thinking long and hard about whether I should write this review. Ultimately, selling your house is one of the biggest financial decisions anyone will make in their lifetime, which makes picking the right estate agent very important. I therefore feel that sharing our experience is important so that future sellers can make an informed choice. We had initially decided to sell our house in Queen's Park using Knight Frank. The initial impression was very positive, and we felt they were saying all the right things. However, it quickly became evident to us that it was a lot of talk and not much action. We instructed Knight Frank on September 18th and decided to end their appointment on October 5th due to their slowness and abysmal communication. Below is a list of what went wrong in those two and a half weeks: -Our key contact went on holiday shortly after we appointed Knight Frank. We were not given an alternative contact, and that person was unreachable, including an out-of-office message on WhatsApp, which I didn't even know existed. -We had no clear guidance on how long the onboarding process would take, and it felt like we had to do all the pushing to get things moving. -We were told that one of Knight Frank's USPs is that they do a significant share of their sales off-market. From our perspective, little happened in terms of trying to get viewings done before the house was listed online. -They insisted on having the agents come to our house before doing visits, which we thought would be a good idea. However, none of them took any notes and when asked about "their book of contacts," barely any of them had given it any thought. It just felt like a huge waste of time for both parties. -When our key contact came back from holiday, I went personally to their office to have a chat and share our grievances. I was reassured that they were going to do their best to turn things around, and that we would have more viewings arranged off-market and that crucially, communication would improve. A week passed by with no progress and no communication, so we took the difficult decision to cancel the agreement. At this stage, you are already penalized by having lost nearly three weeks and having to select another agent. But instead of taking the high road and recognizing that the service they offered fell below expectations, I received an invoice from Knight Frank for the photos of the house, which they refused to let us use until we paid them. I felt this was particularly petty, but it also reassured me that we made the right choice in changing estate agents. We paid the invoice and appointed Foxtons Maida Vale instead. Right away, the experience was completely different. They were much more professional and reactive. Within a few days of appointing them, the property was online and viewings were underway. We secured an offer in five weeks, and they stayed on top of everything until the exchange happened. Everything you expect out of a good estate agent. While it appears from the other reviews that our experience with Knight Frank doesn't seem to be the norm, it is nonetheless what happened to us, and I hope it is helpful for future sellers looking to make a decision which can have a big financial impact if not done properly.
