   The Brasserie is a pearl, stylishly hidden behind the impressive front of The Churchill. Very elegant venue indeed, and not at all indicative for a dinner experience with unusually high value for money. Highly recommended; the menu has ample options for vegetarians as well as carnivores. Chicken satay and red onion tarte tatin were spot-on starters. The beef bourguignon pie and rump of lamb were memorable mains; the vegetarians raved about the butternut squash elegantly wrapped in a crust. All the deserts were worth the trip by themselves; if you really wish to sin, indulge in the Baked Alaska. The lovely and attentive staff will accompany your on your journey through this great culinary experience.

   Table D'hote menu Let's start with the service. Amazing, simply amazing. The young lady was attentive and friendly. The French onion soup was packed with flavour. Beef cheek was so tender it fell apart. Chicken parmagiano was really tasty. Creme brulee and lemon tart dessert were top notch. £30 for 3 courses, with great food, amazing service and a stunning setting made for unbelievable value for money.

   We had been out all day and were staying at The Churchill so didn't want to go far. Decided to eat in the Brasserie and what a great decision that turned out to be. We ordered from the set menu which we were surprised they offered on a Saturday. My wife had soup and I had the pork belly. Both were amazing. In fact the pork belly starter was the best I had had in York all week! I had the minute steak and she had the beef cheek. Both were excellent again. Service was amazing as always. We will always eat here now when we are in York which is regularly.

   Absolutely cannot stand self-ordering through the app. Either each diner has to bring a device, download the app, painstakingly go through all the pages of the menu and then relay preferred items to the diner who is paying/orders for all -OR- one person has to download it and read the entire menu out loud to the table. Meanwhile, if you hear a dish that sounds good you have to hold that thought in case something else comes up that you might like better while the reader finishes dictating the food menu and then the drinks menu, then the main person has to tap back through the menu to find what it was you wanted to add it to the order. For each person and for each item and drink and sauce and side. Took our table of 3 fully 15 minutes to get it sorted during which time no conversation could take place because we were all listening to the menu and making mental notes. It's ridiculous. Massive buzz kill. Restaurant making the diner do the work for them. For that much work I should have been compensated. I came to be waited on and socialize with my friends. Igloo fee is falsely advertised as a deposit. (Should be illegal to call it that, frankly.) Pizzas options were nice and were tasty and delivered quickly. Nice blankets available if you are chilly.

   Dined here while visiting York with a friend. Excellent food quality, generous portions and surprisingly reasonable prices. Lovely ambience, unpretentious and relaxed. Staff were friendly and efficient. Tried the the lamb rump, breast of chicken and battered cod....all locally sourced and DELICIOUS!
