Such a disappointment! The room was I serios need of refurbishment, but if you love the same shade of grey everywhere then this is the place for you. The bed was probably expensive when it was bought in 1964 but in all honesty if your coming to York on a stag or hen do then stay here because you'll probably be too wasted to notice. On the plus, fantastic location and a great view of the river!

Went for a meal at the bistro, local so didn't stay at the hotel. Nice cosy dining area. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food came quickly, was piping hot & very tasty, good sized portions.

DO NOT STAY HERE ! Location was lovely and peaceful so from the outside we had high expectation and was really looking forward to celebrating our anniversary . However it all went downhill quickly . When we went up to our room it was very dark and dim and very steep steps up to our room and as we walked through the corridor our room was located on it ,smelt musty and felt like you couldnβt breathe . We walked in our room expecting it to be clean seen as though we paid for a β deluxe double room β and we got the complete opposite . It smelt like something had died in there and as we walked through we found broken tiles and mould all up on the wall . Stains on the walls of damp drip marks . Dust and cobwebs everywhere . Mould on the window which made the curtains smell musty and like wet dog . The bed was slanted and we found it extremely uncomfortable. when heading to reception to bring up these issues we are told that because we only payed Β£90 thatβs basically what we get . I understand it was decent price for York however it should be safe ! And a cracked tile and mould is not safe and especially not so β deluxe β . Then when asking if we could possibly be moved or a refund so we could stay somewhere else the lady at reception refused . 4 weeks later booking.com refused my refund due to the property disregarding my complaint and state of the room . Will not stay here again .

I stayed here two nights last week. Location of the hotel/restaurant was really good. Very central from both city centre and the train station both walkable by 10 minutes or less. The room was super clean however I stayed in room 3 and I could not use the shower as the drain was broken. Staff were made aware but nothing could be done. This left me having to go without for a long time. If you are a light sleeper please also be aware that because there are pubs literally on the street there is a lot of shouting and carry on. Even with my windows shut it was very noisy. The restaurant food was delicious. We came in evening, my partner got a burger and I got a pizza. Took a while to arrive but it was so worth it. Unsure if I would be back again as I think it is a bit expensive for what it is, but I still overall enjoyed my stay.

The location is undeniably spectacular β right on the river and perfectly placed among other bars, making it ideal for soaking up a lively atmosphere. Unfortunately, as someone who works in hospitality, I couldnβt help but notice the service fell short of what such a prime spot deserves. Drinks felt overpriced, service was sluggish, and the energy from staff wasβ¦ shall we say, more riverside drift than bustling flow. Our table service waiter spent a good half-hour leaning against a wall eating Mentos β which might be refreshing for them, but not for the customers waiting on orders. Other guests were commenting on slow food service and the generally lacklustre approach to hospitality. I do understand that busy nights can stretch staff, but this was a Monday with only five tables occupied. For such a location and price point, I expected sharper, more attentive service. A real shame β because with standards to match the view, this place could be exceptional.

The food here is delicious ( fish was beautifully cooked), the staff are very polite and friendly and there are seats outside by the water. My only suggestion would be some umbrellas. It was not raining when we were seated but it was by the time we got our food, there was no space inside so just had to eat in the rain. The poor staff were also stood outside in the rain. A few patio umbrellas would have done the trick and would be useful for rain and sun for those with young children in summer ( and the staff stuck outside rain or shine).

Stayed in the deluxe room and was really impressed with this hotel. The location is great, the staff are really helpful and friendly and the room itself was lovely. Big windows for a great view of the river, comfortable bed, very well decorated and modern. The pub itself is really nice and there's the option to sit outside. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Shower had very low water pressure with cold water and even less when you try and use the hot water. White towels that were in the room were presented nicely but one had a dirty stain on it from previous use. They were replaced by the staff after the first night. Bed was nice and comfortable, but the other parts to the room brought the rating down.

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in by far. We booked to stay here for two nights but I had to pay Β£160 to stay somewhere else for the second night as we couldn't hack another night here. We were given room number 4 and this room had no ventilation the window looks out into a dark small centre of the building where no daylight enters and is full of hot vents. There is a strong smell of damp in the room that gave one of us a chest infection and the other a sore throat. The bed was small and uncomfortable with springs poking in your back all night. Holes covered the walls and the bathroom stank of mould which covered the ceiling above the shower. We only stayed here the first night as it was late and we were tired but please if they offer you room 4 for your own health decline. The young staff themselves were super friendly and helpful so this takes nothing away from them.

We tried this as an alternative to our usual chain hotels. Location is excellent and the river view is lovely. Sadly that is all the good points out if the way. The bed was not a double, the mattress did not even fit the frame. The bathroom door had to be slammed to close. The bathroom light strobes for at least 2 minutes before staying on. The carpet was filthy and there was litter left in the room from previous guests. Friday night would have been a good price if the above didn't happen but the Saturday rate is a joke for this level of establishment and service. Would not recommend.
