This is how I remember cinemas! Staff were amazing and very friendly. Definitely take the time to visit this place, even just for a snack or drink (or view the wall of VHS's) . Hopefully this place will get some investment and go on for years to come as its a hidden gem

Lovely building with great decor and the staff are very friendly but aren't the most organised or professional, as you often hear or see them coming in and out of the theatres during screenings. Prices are fair but the popcorn served is often stale, or just out of stock. Culturally, its film selections aren't very broad or inclusive, instead focusing on showing films for and about the LGBTQ+ community, especially with their self-curated film seasons.

I was excited to support an independent local cinema, but please do not go here. At Β£15 a ticket, I expected to have a good experience. I loved the VHS display when you came in, but everything was downhill from there. I ordered some sweet popcorn. It was totally stale and disgusting - completely tasteless and must have been in the machine for ages. I then headed to the screen. We were in screen 2. It was down a set of old stairs that smelt awful and honestly looked like a car park stairwell. The screen just had three rows so we were sat ridiculously close to the screen. The sound was super quiet so I could hear every single person crunching popcorn. I have never complained about a cinema in my life and I go all the time. Unfortunately, this place just isnβt worth the price.

The Rio Cinema in Dalston is a charming old movie theatre with a wonderful old-school atmosphere that reflects the history of the area. The location is perfect and easy to get to.The main auditorium has retained many original features, giving it a unique and nostalgic vibe. The staff were friendly, and the movie selection is an excellent mix of mainstream and independent films. I saw a great independent film during my visit, and the seats were comfortable. The popcorn and drinks are reasonably priced. The toilets were clean but a bit small and need renovation. While itβs a lovely experience overall, thereβs room for some modern updates to enhance the comfort. That said, the Rio is a gem for movie lovers and well worth a visit!

Love this art deco cinema with so much history behind it. Good movie selection, great space and I like the fact it is independent. Affordable prices too, especially Mondays and Tuesdays. In the heart of buzzy Dalston.

Art Deco cinema from 1909 with cosy seating and a comfortable view of a traditional proscenium screen.

Interesting art deco building with a historical touch. Some sits definitely needs a replacement and it was pretty chilled during the movie.

Loved the experience and historical setting of the Rio - need to get around to supporting independent cinemas more! What a great venue and unique setting, much different from the big commercial Vues or Odeons. Comfy seats, nice ticket on concession, and a really entertaining ensemble film (Glass Onion!) Will for sure be back for another viewing sometime, really enjoyed my time.

A wonderful eclectic cinema with a beautifully redesigned basement bar modelled and inspired by the Shining and other classic films, made locally by wooden craftsmen, which added to the local authenticity of the place. Seats are huge leather individual seats and small intimate screens. Super lovely staff and locally sourced drinks including a delicious passion fruit soda and vegetarian snacks. Great place for date night and to find films not on general release.
