The Angel at Hetton is an outstanding dining experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service attentive without being intrusive, and the food is simply exceptional β€” beautifully presented and full of flavour. Every course feels thoughtfully crafted. A perfect place for a special meal and easily one of the best culinary spots in the area

Excellent service from start to finish. Staff were very warm, welcoming and efficient. Sat in the bar and had an amazing cheeseboard with olives and nuts, walnuts bread and crackers. The cheeseboard came with a booklet explaining where they were made and what to expect flavour wise. We had cocktails and other alcoholic beverages and had a very lovely experience. My mother had got a voucher as a gift and wanted to take us. I would highly recommend. The decor is very tasteful and the fire was lit. We will definitely be back.

Our second stay, wonderful once again. The rooms in the main building are stylish and comfortable, with beautiful joinery, though severely lacking in surface areas so it’s challenging to put anything down except on the floor! However, one comes for the food and warmth of welcome, and neither disappoints. The 10-course menu comprises course after beautiful course of top ingredients prepared with great skill, imagination and a strong Japanese influence and service throughout is warm and professional. The bar area still attracts a local crowd who come to enjoy a drink and sometimes stay on for a superb meal. Breakfast is no less enjoyable, with familiar elements given a β€˜fine dining’ feel. Michael Wignall is a modest man with huge skill who has honed his talent in the UK’s top kitchens; we love that he now has somewhere to offer his vision of good food and hospitality.

Delicious food and a wonderful experience but I review based upon the price range. Clearly the food is great but few courses missed the mark. The carrot course being far too complex to fit the entire flavour onto a fork, other courses being unremarkable but the eel was absolutely incredible. Service, overall good but unfortunately some of the courses were explained too fast then instantly walked away before any questions could be asked. Sommelier was excellent. I went to the bathroom and returned to see my napkin on the floor. The breakfast was incredible, attentive service and a breakfast set menu is something I never knew I needed in my life. Plugs on one side of the bed but not the other is annoying but the bed was extremely comfortable. Overall, I would recommend and we will likely go back but for equivalent price point I’ve experienced elsewhere it needs work.

We had the most amazing meal here last Sunday! The service was professional and attentive the whole time we were there. We had drinks outside whilst our table was being prepared. Then taken into the dining area. It had a lovely laid back atmosphere with calming music in the background. All the waiting staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The tasting menu looked exciting and each course was served at a steady pace. Every plate was beautifully presented and it tasted as good as it looked!!

So, to be clear , we have not actually stayed or eaten. We had reservations for tonight , but my daughter became ill yesterday and we had no choice but to reluctantly cancel. Now, we understand the t&c's and had read them, but sometimes life throws things at you when least expected. Having explained and ask for the Angel to allow us to move forward our booking to another time and being wiling to meet some cancellation charges (our offer was 25%) we were flatly declined. Asking again we were declined again. We understand a retail business as we run one, but when PROFIT is solely put in front of people and legacy, it suggests an ethos that is quite unpleasant. The fact that no empathy could be given for our predicament is a sad reflection on its owners and policies. To hide ( and we cannot say the Angel has done anything legally wrong) behind the cloak of t&c s is a sign of uncaring, unkind business. We do not doubt the food will be amazing but the nature of the way this business is conducted would leave a sour taste in our mouths. We are mightily out of pocket, Β£465 to be precise. The Angel will keep and use the ingredients they didn't use tonight and the room will not need to cleaned or tidied tomorrow creating greater profit than if we had stayed. However, we are pleased that we have not provided any more income. We guess it is a moral issue if you choose to go.

Absolutely stunning food, full of flavour and looked immaculate. The whole place is kitted out to a standard reflective of the star it has. The room we stayed in was beautiful with 5star furnishings. We went for the gourmet stay / taster menu, 100% recommend it - the breakfast taster being a great surprise to finish.

My Wife and I had an absolutely amazing Taste of Winter meal this afternoon. It was a Birthday treat for my Wife and we both loved it. The Food, Service and Setting was fantastic, a big thank you to all the staff that that made our afternoon very special. Finally, we had a Coffee and some sweet treats to finish, what amazing value (Β£13 for 2, they were absolutely delicious), if you went to a Generic coffee shop and ordered a coffee and Cake it would cost just as much. I first ate here 10 years ago and so much has changed. This is the first time I’ve been since all the renovations. It was incredible. I wasn’t sure at first given the modern interior (versus the old pub feel I remembered) but the food and service was brilliant. The 8 course tasting menu from start to finish was excellent. My favourite were the scallops, duck 1 (a duck boudin in a creamy foamy lovely bowl of goodness) and the turbot. The cheese dish was phenomenal and clever too. To be honest, I didn’t think there was a weak dish. The rooms were nice. I was expecting a bath like the one pictured on the website (stand alone in the room) but it was a nice suite. Lovely bed/duvet and pillows. The breakfast tasting menu was also brilliant. Service again was great. A cracking stay. Best tasting menu I’ve had this year.

Fantastic one night gourmet stay in a lovely two storey suite. The tasting menu was delicious accompanied by a perfect wine pairing, followed by a 'tasting menu' breakfast in the morning. All the staff made us feel very welcome. We would thoroughly recommend.
