I moved away from York and still travel back to this practice with my cat if she needs the vet. Tim just gets on with it and does what needs doing to help your pet. Highly recommended.

Ive used this practice for many years and am surprised to see some negative reviews. Tim is a traditional vet. He gets the job done and in my opinion his surgical skills are 2nd to none. My breed is Bulldog and I have found no other who understands the breed issues like Tim. Yes his writing is hard to decipher and he comes to his diagnosis quickly without unnecessary small talk but I trust him and I know he cares for the animals in his care.

I’ve had nothing but wonderful experiences with this vet! Every member of the team has been incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring toward both me and my pets. I’ve recommended this place to every pet owner I know because the service is consistently excellent. I was honestly shocked to see some 1-star reviews β€” if I could give them 10 stars, I absolutely would! Highly recommended.

This is a new review August 2025 as we now have an 17 month old Cocker Spaniel who has just experienced his boys operation ,enough said poor lad but once again we must say a big thank you to Tim & the staff who do a wonderful job in this small & friendly practice we were reassured & didn’t worry unfortunately one testicle was undescended all went well & our beautiful boy is back to his normal self ! Tim looked after all our Guinea Pigs over 20 years before we progressed to dogs !, we had eye surgery , ovarian treatment … almost anything a little piggy can have we have always been treated with care and compassion when needed especially with the loss of the small animals when I have sobbed terribly all have gone to rest at Tim’s .We then lost our previous Cocker Spaniel at age 2 very sadly due to a blood disorder nothing any Bet could have done to save him but our new boy is now under Tim’s care .Thank you all !

My french bulldog was booked i. for a planned c-section, the vet was very kind and could sense I was worked up he let me stay with my girl whilst he delivered the Anastasia. He safely delivered 6 pups. Mum and pups are all doing well. After reading the reviews I was sceptical but I would definitely recommend this vet and will use them again.

Unfortunately we received a very poor service from this vet. The consultation was a matter of minutes, we were not advised what the diagnosis was and the treatment did not work, which has meant we have had to go to another vet to have to pay another set of fees. In addition we were not advised how to use the treatment, (it was not printed on the prescription label) how much to use or for how long, so following the consultation I had to email them to ask how to administer the medication and send a further email to clarify.

Went to Tim because I simply couldn't get answers from my current Vets4pets without genuinely spending 1000s Tim ran several tests, the prognosis was worse than we imagined and our boy died 6 days after, at least we knew and we made his final days perfect rather than poking and prodding him and sending him all over like I was being recommended. Communication could be better, we took him in thinking he was struggling with pneumonia, and we were told in the morning that he was actually in the final stages of heart failure with fluid on his lungs along with suspected cancer. It was a lot to digest and would have been better for Tim to tell me rather than for a veterinary nurse to do it. He is a no-nonsense Vet, and will simply tell it how it is, sometimes that's needed.

We travel from Bradford to see Tim he’s a great vet and his prices are amazing. All the operations and treatments he has done for us have been first rate. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed by the service of a very unpleasant and rude man, who handled our pet very badly, was totally heartless in his diagnosis and told us how much it would cost on our way out (this was his β€˜polite’ way of telling us to go and he left the room). We had to tell him to put our pet down too as the poor thing looked totally petrified. Will never go back and would never recommend.

The best vet I've ever used. I've been taking my dogs to Tim Stead for 25 years and they have always received excellent care, both from Tim and from his staff. He saved the life of one of my dogs by figuring out the rare disease she had and treating it. He has put down three of my dogs when the right time came, and he always acted with care and compassion. I don't understand the few negative reviews, but I'm happy to see that the vast majority are as positive as mine is. Tim and his staff deserve the good reviews; we are fortunate to have him here in York.
