βFirst time here lady was very helpful with fitting new harness for our new dog highly recommendedβ
βWe cannot recommend this B&B enough. Simon's porridge and full English breakfasts were wonderful, with homemade bread readily available. Our room room was clean and beyond comfortable. To name a few amenities, there were heated towel racks, robes, and locally-made, excellent mattresses. Both host and hostess went above and beyond to help us navigate a few unexpected circumstances by connecting us with local resources. We will be returning if we can!!!β
βExcellent location with parking. The room was very stylish ,clean and comfortable. The best thing was the healthy breakfast which made us feel rejuvenated. Little bit of everything and they bring it to your bed!!! You have tea and coffee in the room and everything is organic. Highly recommend this hotel. Awesome!β
βWe had an absolutely wonderful stay at No.1 Guest House in York. We mentioned we were visiting for my partnerβs birthday, and to our surprise they double upgraded usβsuch a thoughtful touch that immediately set the tone for a special weekend. The room we were given was beautiful, spotlessly clean, and lovely and spacious, with all the details that make a stay feel genuinely luxurious. Weβd previously stayed at No.15 in Bath and loved it, which is exactly why we decided to try No.1 in York. It absolutely lived up to the reputationβwarm service, gorgeous surroundings, and that same signature charm that makes you feel instantly at home. A truly memorable stay from start to finish. Highly recommended, and we canβt wait to return!β
βVisited here dozens of times over the last few years, staff are always friendly, especially on the aquatics section. It can be a little pricey on some items but always better to buy from a store rather than Amazon and you can sometimes get absolute bargains on the to clear items! Animals always look well cared for and have had quite a few fish from here and all have been healthy. Very much a last of its kind type of pet store so letβs support it so it keeps its doors open!β
βBeautiful hotel, very close to train station and a short walk from the main shopping area of York. We had a lovely visit, and most of the staff were very courteous, welcoming and friendly. The room was well presented and we had a very comfortable bed. It is a higher priced hotel and you could see the attention to detail and little touches that made it special. We were slightly disappointed that we didn't receive the same warm level of greeting as other guests. It was a stay we'd saved for and had looked forward to very much. It was obvious they had regulars, which is fantastic and means the hotel gets it right as a general rule. But it would have been nice if we'd had a little conversation with the check-in member. The couple being checked in next to us were being asked very general questions like where they'd travelled from, creating a little conversation, but we didn't get the same; just a hello and asked about what card we wanted to put on file for incidentals and then silence. I did attempt to make a little polite conversation with the receptionist but it was clear that they were not interested. It made us feel a little awkward. Asking simple customer service questions makes guests feel welcome and at ease, which we didn't experience at that point. On checking out it was better; we were asked if we'd enjoyed our visit to York, where we were going back to, etc. It made us feel more welcome, even though we were checking out. All in all though, our check in experience hasn't put us off booking in again at some point. Chances are it was an exception to their usual level of service.β
βJust got back from a wonderful trip to york, the market, and Christmas lights werea joy. The naburn lock caravan site was fabulous, great staff very very helpful ( special thanks to Kevin for all his help) The amenities so so good, first time I've not used our caravan shower so I could enjoy the large brand new shower suite ;) Love adult only quiet site, with large pitches. Will go again xxβ
βThe staff were kind, considerate and helpful. We had our pet seen to straight away and we're given good advice. It is also a good value compared to some other vet services in the area.β
βWe had our small post wedding celebration here in The Courtyard. We stayed the night before and the evening of our wedding. The entire staff, from Event management as my first contact, to reception staff and the breakfast greeting was superb. However, a very special mention must go to Yontshi, who made sure we enjoyed our tasting menu the night before and took charge of our reception on the Saturday. She made us feel like we were the most important people in her world. Thank you Mr & Mrs Miles Walkerβ
βLocation - great, 10 mins walk to York. Staff - friendly and super efficient, a pleasure to see a team working so well on a very busy breakfast shift - much better than many large corporate chain hotels we have stayed in. Breakfast - decent breakfast with a good range of options. Room - good size, very clean and warm. Parking - very reasonable price for parking in York. Stay again - definitely. Value - very good. Recommend - absolutely. Overall - spot on, far better than many places we've stayed in.β
βI cannot fault this accommodation it was just perfect for my 70th birthday family celebration. The rooms were so lovely and clean and it felt like it was home from home. The family particularly enjoyed the pool table. The location was also perfect it was close to shops and places to eat and it was a 4 min walk along the castle wall into the centre of York. I would definitely recommend this accommodation. The hosts were very accommodating as well and nothing was too much trouble. Hopefully we will be going back there again in the near future.β
βFinding the right person to walk your dogs, pet sit etc is no easy job. You need someone who cares, is consistent, committed, conscientious and trustworthy Charlotte is all that and much more. Our 3 absolutely adore Charlotte and have the best time when out with her, we always get the videos and pictures with every walk but the ultimate proof is when Charlotte walks through the door. Weβd be lost without Charlotte and we feel so lucky and grateful to have someone who cares and loves our dogs as much as we do.β
βEmma is fantastic always dose a brilliant job with my Oscar. I highly recommend majobi Dog Groomers to anyone wanting there pooch pamperingβ
βOur dog Dexter loves Going out with Good Boy Dog Walkers. We love the fact that you get to see photos of him out on his walks and he looks so happy! The walkers are always friendly and it feels like they love the dogs they walk, when they arrive Dexter can't wait to go out with them!!! Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a dog walker who treats them like they were they're own.β
βCharlotte is Fantastic. You can tell she genuinely cares and enjoys looking after your fur babies . She provides constant updates and photo's ( I was a worrier) and puts your mind at ease . I wouldn't leave my bunnies with anyone other than Pippin Boarding.β
βAgain, got everything I needed, great, place, very friendly xxβ
βGot in touch with style4paws in the morning and Sue managed to fit my dog Stanley in on that same day. Myself and my wife are over the moon with the outcome of work which she did with Stanley. He looked amazing and style4paws will definitely be recommended to all are friends. 100% recommend sue to anybody thinking or looking to get there dog groomed. Thanks again sue.β
βTook my little kitty here for his jabs staff were very nice and polite The vet was very reassuring and gave him a full check up it's nice to donate to a good charity and will keep doing soβ
βWent to a wild bird workshop today (was free- just need to book) with my daughter . It was run in store by the lovely Jess who was super patient and informative with the children joining in. They got to learn about garden birds and make their own bird feeder. Thought this was a lovely idea seen as most children love coming in and seeing the animals it also helps educate them in a fun way. Great store too- well laid out and helpful staffβ
βI had a great stay at this modern and stylish hotel. My double room was well equipped with a Nespresso machine (with four pods), plenty of coffee sachets, and a good selection of teas. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and I loved the clever touch of the TV hidden behind a sliding piece of artwork. The large windows let in loads of natural light, and the room controls made it easy to adjust the temperature and fan settings. The shower was another highlight β a spacious, low-level shower enclosure with both a rainfall and handheld shower. Water pressure and temperature were excellent. The separate sink and worktop merged just to the side of the bed area was a nice feature. Breakfast was stacked full of self serve continental options as well as orderabke cooked options including a full English, priced at Β£25 for adults, but it was included with my stay, which made it great value β and it was absolutely delicious. All the staff were friendly and very helpful throughout my stay. The hotel overall is clean, bright, and modern, with a welcoming bar area thatβs perfect for relaxing. A great stayβ
βThis is our own experience with this business, and we know different clients will have different experiences β but we always leave reviews based on the service we received when we ordered or visited. Review for: Moxy York β Black Horse Lane, York First Impressionsβ¨Moxy York immediately stood out with its fun, urban, and modern vibe. The downstairs area is full of character, decorated with eye-catching urban art, hanging pod chairs, plenty of selfie spots, and even a photobooth complete with dress-up hats and caps. The luggage carts by the entrance were incredibly helpful when we arrived with multiple suitcases. The overall first impression was stylish, energetic, and welcoming. Cleanliness & Safety Concernsβ¨The hotel was clean throughout β from the reception area to the lifts and guest rooms. The lifts are secure and wonβt operate until you scan your room key, which we appreciated as an added safety feature. CCTV inside the lifts added an extra layer of reassurance. The bathrooms, both in the public areas and our room, were spotless, and the baby-changing facilities downstairs were spacious with a wide sliding door that easily accommodates a pram. Food Qualityβ¨Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of hot and cold options, good coffee, cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, and a variety of juices. Gluten-free options were clearly available, and we loved the sign that mentioned vegetarian sausages cooked to orderβjust ask a staff member. Everything was well stocked and fresh. The bar also served well-priced soft drinks, and we appreciated the free pints of cold ice water when requested. Ambience & Surroundingsβ¨The ambience at Moxy York is playful and modern, with thoughtful design details such as bright pink filler used deliberately to highlight cracks in the concrete floorβturning something ordinary into part of the dΓ©cor. Thereβs a beer garden, a pool table, books, board games, magazines like Empire, and even a free retro Street Fighter arcade machine. Everywhere you look, thereβs something creative or fun. The hotel feels lively yet relaxing, perfect for groups, couples, families, and students alike. Service & Atmosphereβ¨Every member of staff we interacted with was polite, friendly, and eager to help. The front-desk team created such a welcoming environment. We loved the gesture of a free cocktail or mocktail each on arrival. They even had special offers like a 20% student discount and a free mimosa for graduates on the day we visited. Dog owners will appreciate the custom stand at reception with water bowls for both large and small dogs. Small touches like free cucumber water at the bar and umbrellas available to rent added to the sense that Moxy pays attention to guest comfort. Facilitiesβ¨The hotel offers lots of thoughtful amenities: A well-equipped workout room directly opposite the lifts Fast, clean lifts with fun selfie-style Instagram templates inside Monthly event notices and clear signposting throughout the hotel A first-floor ironing room accessible with your room key Modern, comfortable guest rooms with sensor lights under the bed (perfect for late-night bathroom trips), air conditioning, USB ports, a European plug socket, a wing-backed chair, a kettle with tea/coffee and Biscoff biscuits, and secure locking feature. Bathroom amenities including shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, and body wash The room was quiet with no banging or noise from other floors, leading to a very peaceful nightβs sleep β something not all hotels manage successfully. Although there is no on-site car park, there is a Q-Park nearby and several other parking options within walking distance via parking apps. Signing up for Marriott Bonvoy is worthwhile too, as it makes Wi-Fi sign-in quicker and lets you collect points. Overallβ¨We wouldnβt hesitate to recommend this hotel and look forward to staying at The Moxy in York again on our next visit. I hope this honest review helps others make an informed decision.β
βStayed 3 nights with a dog got offered a bigger room than was booked very clean lots of space bed very comfortable and brill shower . We payed for breakfast it was delicious lovely and hot staff were very welcoming would recommendβ
βExcellent shop with very friendly staff, expert knowledge on the Bearded Dragon that we bought and superb service.β
βThe Milner is still upto a great standard. Staff are excelent. We were in a front facing superior room. With fantastic views of the Minster. We had a meal last night which was cooked perfectly and the breakfast this morning had a great selection and good quality. We will definely be visiting next Christmas as it is idealy situated for York city centre. Very dog friendly hotelβ
βAttended the Ringtons Tea retireesβ Christmas bash at the Novotel in York and it was exceptional from beginning to end. The hotel itself is in a cracking location just a short walk from the river and the city centre, and it has that modern, clean, relaxed feel that makes you settle in straight away. The event was handled brilliantly. The staff were outstanding β friendly, organised, and genuinely attentive without ever feeling intrusive. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and they kept everything running smoothly all evening, which really helped set the tone. The food was superb. Every course was well presented, piping hot and full of flavour. Christmas meals at large gatherings can be hit-and-miss, but this was one of the best Iβve had at a group event. Plates were cleared promptly, drinks topped up efficiently, and the timing between courses was spot on. The atmosphere was fantastic too β warm, festive and full of energy. The room was set up beautifully, plenty of space, great lighting, and everything felt well thought through. It made the whole celebration feel special, and it was lovely to see so many familiar faces from Ringtons enjoying themselves. Overall, Novotel York delivered an excellent evening: great service, brilliant food, a lovely festive setting, and staff who genuinely helped make the night memorable. Couldnβt have asked for more. Highly recommended.β
βIdeal location for our needs visiting family in York. Decent sized room with very comfortable beds. The shower room smelled fusty (as it did on a previous visit. I think it's a drain issue). Good buffet breakfast with a good choice of hot food. Free parking.β
βJust got back from staying here for two nights. The room was good. Clean and well ordered. I am a wheelchair user and found there was plenty of room for my chair without it being obstructive. It was warm and comfy in fact too warm but there was a fan. The bed was almost too comfortable and having one hard pillow and one soft pillow each is a brilliant idea. The breakfast was self service and the choice was good too. The staff were helpful and friendly and we would go back any time and recommend it to anyone.β
βGreat! Pet Shop and Owner who I've bought Goldfish from before. The small Fish are very tame and exploring their new home in the Pond. Would like to see some Koi Fish stocked in future.β
βStayed here for a night for my first time in York and loved it. The hotel location is very convenient as it's right next to the station and shops. The staff are lovely and accommodating; kept my food in their fridge and reheated it for me. The room was clean bed was very comfortable and had a tea corner. The TV connects to mobile so was able to watch Netflix/YouTube! Also the breakfast was great. Would stay again next time I'm in York.β

The room was very comfortable and cleaned daily. I would recommend this hotel to friends and anyone else looking for a relaxing break.β
