Great location as walking distance from york and fantastic breakfast. We were let down with a few things unfortunately which did ruin our stay. Firstly, I had called and emailed prior to our arrival to ask for early book in due to having an autistic family member who needed access to a room earlier to have some quiet time before visiting family. We were told at check in that they had no idea that we wanted an early check in desoite my attempts on 2 occasionsto request this. It was sorted but very frustrating as they were not sure they could approve it so it left us worrying there would be no place for my autistic family member to distress if getting overwhelmed. The worst thing was the dirty cups that were left for us in room 329 and my husband was unable to shower or have a drink as the water smelt like rotten eggs. It ruined his stay and he was annoyed at such service gir the amount we paid. I reported this at reception he said they were sorry our stay wasnt better. My daughter was looking forward to having a bubble bath but aborted the idea when she saw black mould around the bath. The sink was also blocked in 331 so we had to unblock it. The bathroom decor wasnt very updated and when I had a shower it was trickling, probably because of a calcium build up with not being cleaned properly. I paid 606.00 pounds for 2 rooms hoping that it would be a pleasant stay for my family. With autism in the family it is stressful staying places that are different from home and these things that happened left me feeling like I had been ripped off for what we paid. I honestly have had better rooms at the travel lodge which would have been a lot cheaper. We also had issues with charging our electric car on their car park. We couldn't get the charger to release from the car or the meter and the app wouldn't work. The lady we called tried to help but was at a loss and said it would take at least a few days to send someone out! Thankfully we eventually got it to somehow release so be careful with their machines. The lady on the phone said it was meant to not be in use and wasnt sure how we had managed to attach it which is why it locked on us. So yeah, not the relaxing enjoying weekend we were expecting!

We had a truly magical stay and enjoyed every moment of it. Everything was excellent, from the room to the breakfast service. The male receptionist was extremely friendly and professional, making us feel very welcome from the start. Our room was warm, cozy, spotless, and well equipped with all the amenities we needed. We were staying to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and the manager, Kai, was an absolute legend. We were delighted to find a small gift and a thoughtful message waiting for us in the room, which really made our day even more special. The bar area and lobby were beautifully decorated with a festive Christmas theme, creating a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of choice—we had everything we wanted. Parking was also very convenient, with no hassle at all. We would highly recommend this hotel and would like to thank Kai, Tashi, and the rest of the team for their outstanding hospitality and kindness.

Last night our social group Yorklub attended a Christmas dinner dance at Novotel Fishergate York. Brilliant evening. The reception area was well organised with a singer guitarist to entertain along with glasses of bubbly and canapés. A good start to the evening before moving through to function room. This was beautifully laid out with circular tables seating ten guests. Each with place names and their meal choices. The food was served very efficiently by very polite staff assisted by two managers, Ajay and Rahul who both were so helpful and checking with each table to ensure we were all happy with our meals. The dance floor is well positioned and the dj played a good mix of tracks which ensured a lively crowd enjoyed a good dance! A big thank you to ALL the staff involved ie kitchen, bar staff and the guys and gals serving us, for all their hard work. Finally thanks to Sarah from the functions team for all her help she gave me organising for the night. Looking forward to booking again in 2026.

I have stayed at the hotel only for a few days but the experience was amazing, the hotel itself was cozy and welcoming from the door step, the staff was smiling for the moment you came up to the reception and any questions you asked they answered with politeness and kindness. The room was amazing, most of the time we used facilities that were provided by the hotel like the breakfast buffet which we had reserved for every morning, the food was tasty and warm, they had different varieties of the food so you could take what you wanted, they also had a coffee machine which made excellent hot drinks. We also had dinners at the restaurant, it was delicious food which served nicely. My partner also used the pool at the hotel which he really enjoyed he used it every evening. The trip was for an engagement, when the staff at the restaurant realised they made us an congratulations dessert on the house which made the experience even better, we had bought a few alcoholic drinks which tasted amazing. Overall the stay was fantastic and we will definitely go back there again.

Attended the Ringtons Tea retirees’ Christmas bash at the Novotel in York and it was exceptional from beginning to end. The hotel itself is in a cracking location just a short walk from the river and the city centre, and it has that modern, clean, relaxed feel that makes you settle in straight away. The event was handled brilliantly. The staff were outstanding – friendly, organised, and genuinely attentive without ever feeling intrusive. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and they kept everything running smoothly all evening, which really helped set the tone. The food was superb. Every course was well presented, piping hot and full of flavour. Christmas meals at large gatherings can be hit-and-miss, but this was one of the best I’ve had at a group event. Plates were cleared promptly, drinks topped up efficiently, and the timing between courses was spot on. The atmosphere was fantastic too – warm, festive and full of energy. The room was set up beautifully, plenty of space, great lighting, and everything felt well thought through. It made the whole celebration feel special, and it was lovely to see so many familiar faces from Ringtons enjoying themselves. Overall, Novotel York delivered an excellent evening: great service, brilliant food, a lovely festive setting, and staff who genuinely helped make the night memorable. Couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely early afternoon high tea with unlimited tea/coffee and the Polish lady who served us was friendly, smiley and kind. We stayed nattering for almost 4hours she was gracious about it . (There were many empty tables so we weren't talking up other's space fortunately. The dining room has been recently refurbished (although a little unimaginatively) and there's a pretty canal just behind which, on a good day, could be a nice walk.

We had a brilliant time. Perfect location and the room was also perfect. Family of 4 in a junior suite and kids each had their own single bed made up so they didn't have to share a queen as they so often do. They also loved the breakfast. Our only disappointment was the pool being out of service but had a lovely time anyway.

Very good base for York City Centre. We stayed for 1 night whilst visiting lots of the tourist attractions. Lovely modern room and facilities. Pool was an added bonus and the water was lovely and warm. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of choice. The only negative is that you can't check in until 4.30pm which is quite late.

Very good location, just short walk distance to the center. Room spacious and clean with massive TV and workspace and minibar - unfortunately empty. Shower and bathtub. Mattress is very firm, just not for everyone. There is a pool in the hotel, booking your 25 mins slot recommended by reception. Bar, restaurant and breakfast. Parking costs £14 for 24h for hotel guests.

One of the best stays I have had! Great facilities including a pool. All of the staff are very polite and helpful in any way they can. The room was perfect with air con and a safe too. The room was very clean. The breakfast had a wide range catering for fussy eaters as well as anyone with allergies and dietary requirements. The hotel was a tiny bit difficult to find but once we acquainted ourselves with York it was easy with a bus stop at the top of the road. No complaints here! Would definitely recommend and stay again!
