We went to the Holy Bush for some lunch while out shopping today and we were extremely disappointed with the food. I had a roast dinner (I've previously had one from here and it was lovely) But unfortunately not this time. The roast had no flavour at all, the gravy was like water, the veg looked like it had been microwaved and thrown on the plate, I couldn't eat it. My partner had the beef sizzler and again this was really bland. Considering this meal cost over Β£40 for the two of us, it definitely wasn't worth it. The service was good an the staff lovely but the food was a massive let down.

Last night the 18/11/25 I treated my partner to a meal out and went to the holybush after we had been there a few times before but unfortunately last night was disappointing from the start ...we chose the BBQ chicken which came out fairly burnt and hard coating then for our mains my partner had hunters chicken which was passable as chicken with a plate full of salad leaves which she wasn't impressed with I had the mixed grill that was more like burnt offerings the sausages were burnt the steak was well cooked but more like shoe leather the gammon was ok of sorts the chicken was tough and the chips were cooked but teppid warm we both didn't enjoy the meal in which we left nearly all of and didn't really see anyone to complain to as my partner didn't want me to cause a scene so after paying Β£66 for food that wasn't even fit for the bin ..we are not returning and now not recommending ...

The food was okay, it came out hot, but a touch bland. The atmosphere on what should be a busy Sunday afternoon was non-existent, there were only 2 tables including us occupied and a few people at the bar. The service was poor, when we arrived we asked for a table for 2 and were gestured to βsit somewhere in the cornerβ. The gentleman who served us seemed really friendly, but inexperienced. He came to the table and we asked for a few more minutes to decide and he never came back. We werenβt asked if the food okay at any point during eating. When we finished I cleared the table myself and took the plates to the bar and asked for a dessert menu, which they donβt have, so had to remember what was available. We decided to skip dessert as the options werenβt the same as previous visits, no crumble available which was always my favourite. The beef roast was okay, just a touch bland, the beef was okay, only lacking a bit of flavour, the veg was good and the Yorkshire pudding was a bit stale. The fish and chips were also only okay, the chips were hot but the breading on the fish was limp and not very crispy. Iβm not sure if this service is typical for The Holly Bush, as other people seem to have had a good experience from what I can see from recent reviews. It seems that The Holly Bush has changed hands in the last 12 months, I didnβt recognise anyone as we used to visit The Holly Bush for all family meals and itβs my Dadβs favourite place. I think for the cost of the meals (all Β£16.50) there are definitely better places to eat around town, which is a shame because The Holly Bush used to be a gem. I appreciate the place seems to be in a transitional period, but 9 months seems a long time to still be struggling with basics. Weβll call again and hopefully find that this was a one off experience!

Food was fantastic, service was great. Needs a bit of a revamp, all a bit quiet mind. Just needs a bit of TLC. However they accommodated my weird needs. Just a bit over priced, could help them thrive again, just need a little bit of help!

Had a brilliant time at this pub! The service was spot onβquick, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was delicious! What really made the visit special was the staffβso friendly and chatty, they made us feel right at home. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, perfect for a casual meal or a few drinks with friends. Will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

Food lovely but service poor. Drinks order taken about 10 minutes after arrival which isn't too bad, also gave food order at same time. Waited over 35 minutes for our food and only got it then as I had to ask where it was! Staff too busy talking to each other to bother with customers. Large party came in after us and they had to find a member of staff to take their food order. We were also seated next to a table of 'after work drinkers' who were obviously regulars but when you're sat with your child you don't appreciate the language. It's as if the staff couldn't be bothered tbh and wasn't even many people eating in there. The food however was lovely when it finally arrived.

Lovely place that hasn't changed in years. Sunday roast was stunning, the lamb was incredible. Service is very slow and some staff didn't look particularly happy to be around. Perhaps give them a raise and hire more staff!

Booked a meal for Sunday (after the lunchtime crowd). We were seated and given menu's . Twenty minutes later after watching the person that had seated us cleaning tables and moving chairs we asked if we could order a drink (as plainly nobody was going to ask us.) Drinks were brought to the table and order taken. We ordered 2 courses, the meals were really good, hot and tasty, apart from one meal which was ' forgotten' and brought ten minutes later. Plates were taken with no mention of desserts, we prompted the waiter who was less than enthusiastic, but never the less took our order. 30minutes later we decided to leave. It had taken just over 2 hours to serve 2 courses. When we told the person we were leaving and that despite a lovely meal and using the pub over many years we were disappointed at the service. Complete indifference from the staff member . So service very poor , only a small number of tables eating. Sunday lunch was tasty.

Had a great lunch here, everything really nice. Portion sizes are massive - which I'm not complaining about. I swear the peas that came with my first and chips were about 17 of your 5 a day!
