Great views, but disappointing experience overall. The cakes looked absolutely delicious, but they turned out to be dry and stale. The drinks and breakfast were just average, and the customer service was minimal — our only interaction was when the order was taken. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the setting.

Its absolute showstopper is the location, providing a direct, mesmerizing view across the sea while you dine. Beyond the views, the dining experience is first-rate, especially for those with dietary needs. We were delighted to find so many wonderful gluten-free options available on the menu. The waiters were exceptionally attentive and clearly very informed about which items contained gluten, providing great peace of mind. Furthermore, the coffee here is genuinely excellent—the perfect companion for watching the waves roll in. What a gorgeous Café this is and right on the seafront. Service was immediate as were the drinks and the food was really lovely. As you can see from the photographs the owners have put a lot of thought into the small details.
The Beach House is the kind of seaside café that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. The view is incredible, and the food matches it perfectly. I ordered the Turkish eggs with a flat white, and everything tasted fresh and balanced. The yogurt was rich, the bread had just the right texture, and the coffee was smooth without being bitter. The pastry counter is a problem in the best possible way. I tried a cookie that was warm, chewy, and gone far too quickly. The atmosphere feels easy and coastal, with friendly staff who somehow manage to keep things moving without losing the calm energy of the place. If you’re near Portobello Beach, this is where you go for breakfast or an afternoon break. Everything feels intentional and warm, from the decor to the food. It’s the kind of café that makes you forget time exists.
The Beach House is such a lovely spot right on Portobello Beach. Perfect for a relaxed brunch or coffee with a view — the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the big windows looking out over the sea make it extra special (outdoor seating also available). The menu has something for everyone, from fresh baked goods and excellent coffee to hearty breakfast and lunch options. Everything we tried was fresh and flavorful, and the service was friendly without being rushed. A perfect seaside café — well worth a visit whether you’re a local or just passing through. Dog friendly as well which is always a plus.
I would highly recommend this place for afternoon tea or lunch. It’s so cozy to take a table near the sea, whether inside or outside, and enjoy nice coffee or cakes. I felt so relaxed in such a beautiful place. Also, staffs here are quite friendly and passionate.
Our go to place during our stay at portobello beach! Located directly at the beach, this is the perfect place to start your day, either with breakfast oder lunch ;). It is family friendly and although often very busy, service is ok. The food is great and the vibe is great. Loved the beach house.
The location on this spot is just great! I’m so surprised this spot doesn’t come up as a recommendation, and if we weren’t having a super slow day, I don’t think we would’ve ever come to this part of town, The shakshuka and orange juice were top notch! The hot chocolate was great too, but the marshmallows were one too many for me. I’m also not a big fan of marshmallows to begin with, so I can’t imagine that I would’ve liked it any better if there were lesser of them. This is a great spot to grab breakfast and take a walk down the beach!
I've been coming to The Beach House for many years over the past decade and one thing that never surprises me is how busy and popular The Beach House is. There's always a very steady flow of business and the reason for that is the food, the drinks and the current waiting staff. Indoor and outdoor tables are available as well as takeaway options. It's situated in a great location along the promenade, so some great coastal views if you are lucky enough to grab a table by the window. The oat milk cappuccino is a must for any lactose intolerant sufferers. Food is always immaculately presented, very tasty and fresh.
