Marvelous restaurant across the street from our hotel, The Ocean Mist, in Leith (a port of Edinburgh). Staff were friendly, atmosphere was like an old English Pub, and food was excellent. My sister and her sister-in-law had been traveling in Ireland and Scotland for 3 weeks when I met them in Edinburgh, and they said that it was the BEST dinner that they had had during their entire trip so far! Prices were also reasonable. (The price per person I gave was what we spent INCLUDING our generous tip.) I was also amazed at how nicely everything was presented. Have you ever seen Mushy Peas (1st picture) so beautifully plated? Since coming back, I have told all my friends & relatives to go to this restaurant if they like seafood and are in the Edinburgh area.

An absolute standout in Leith and one of the best seafood meals I’ve had, period. The atmosphere was warm and effortlessly refined. Our waiter was exceptional—elegant, incredibly knowledgeable, and perfectly attentive without ever being intrusive. The food was beyond delicious: beautifully presented, impeccably fresh, and full of flavour. Anyways, couldn’t recommend this restaurant more highly. A true gem and a must-visit if you ever are in the area.

Right on the port in Leith, The Shore offers a soft, elegant experience that feels both refined and warmly familiar. The wooden interior has a lived-in charm — soft lighting glows gently, and the slightly worn floors creak just enough to remind you this place has stories. Red velvet drapes line the space, parting just enough for servers to slip in and out like actors moving backstage — smooth, confident, and quietly choreographed. The servers, dressed immaculately in crisp white shirts and black aprons, move with a calm grace — gracious, attentive, and never overbearing. Their warmth reflects true Scottish hospitality, the kind that makes you feel instantly at home. The food? Genuinely incredible. I could have stayed for hours, happily lost in the comforting rhythm of the room — and that bowl of mussels. Served steaming in a white wine sauce so rich and fragrant, I genuinely considered drinking it with a straw. Every mouthful was a kind of quiet joy, simple and deeply satisfying. The daily specials were equally tempting. I tried a seafood linguine in a slightly spiced, tomato-based sauce, brimming with giant prawns and plump mussels — hearty, flavourful, and beautifully cooked. The space is dimly lit, with a warm green glow from flickering candles and softly shimmering bar lights that dance across the tables. It’s the kind of atmosphere that wraps around you like a favourite blanket. I dined here on my own and felt completely at ease — unhurried, well looked after, and able to enjoy the moment without distraction. Whether you’re after a peaceful solo dinner or a long, laughter-filled evening with friends or family, The Shore delivers something special.

After a long walked from Edinburgh castle to the seaside and we found this seafood restaurant and pub. Service was amazing, food so amazing and big! Staff were superb and after all we love this place and high recommence. Price also good for the food you get.

An Edinburgh institution - and deservedly so, if the venison and the flatiron steaks were anything to go by. These were exceeded only by possibly the best scallops I have ever tasted. Fish and chips, French onion soup and pig's cheek croquette all good, too, and all in the romantic, atmospheric setting of a room that belongs to an age long past. The staff know what they are doing, too. Highly recommended.

Lovely relaxed place, perfect for some seafood. We had mussels, mushroom and truffle soup, seared seabass - everything was delicious! Some guests next to us had banging looking fish and chips as well. Overall highly recommend dropping by for lunch!

The Shore Bar and Restaurant. Restaurant or define are defined primarily by 3 things. Food, cleanliness, and Service. In my opinion, after having dined there on numerous occasion. They have delivered each and every time. The menu is well priced. The menu is balanced with wonderful selections. They put imphasis on presentation of the food. In fact you will probably find yourself looking at it to determine when, where and you want to start from. If you are a wine, whiskey, or scotch drinker, their selections will not disappoint. The staff are more than helpful. In fact they're quite delightful, and make it a fun experience.

Wonderful hidden gem. Would recommend for a classy sit down meal for seafoods to meats. Medium class with a twist of Scottish seaside gastronomic culture.

The atmosphere of the restaurant caught our attention and we went there 2 nights in a row, one was for drinks, the one was for dinner. Both the bar and the dining room offer a unique ambiance on its own. The staff is incredibly helpful and the food was far above our expectations. The mussels, the fish platter were fresh and delicious. The portions were quite generous. So hope you’ll enjoy your dinner at the Shore.
