Ordering from Happy Rice, takeaway is the quickest way to get your food. If you order delivery, you should expect to wait 45-90 minutes as orders can pile up quickly, especially during later hours. For collection, you should expect around 5 minutes per item you order if you order in person. Since it is a single-location business, slip-ups do occasionally occur during busy hours but overall you should expect well-packed and warm to eat food. There are great deals which do make Happy Rice stand out to its competitors (you should check the website or pick up a menu from the location to check for yourself). I have had Happy Rice to collect for dinner several times and I can say with confidence as of 2025, Happy Rice is great Chinese takeaway to consider.

Since moving to Edinburgh, I found it hard to trust a good Chinese place. But finally, thanks to my work, I got to know Happy Rice. I had a delivery today, and while it’s early to review since I only had one delivery, I just wanna say that I really appreciated their service. The lady who delivered the food to me was nice and friendly. She really recommended food that I needed to try next time and gave me an in-house voucher. I really appreciated the effort they put their soul into the business. It’s great to see. I hope I will get the same experience next time.

PROS: One of the best Chinese takeaways I have had since, moving up from England. The deals make it really worth while, when it comes to deciding to order - This local Chinese is Good value for money and comparatively priced a starter, main, side and drink for just £11.50 with 10% discount with an order £15+. Extra springs rolls was a nice add on and touch got 12 instead of 8. The meat in both myself and my partners duck and chicken curries was a lot and this is something the competition tends to lack in the area - the lack of meat. The member of staff on the phone was really polite and apologetic and kept us accurately updated on ETA on delivery. CONS: Delivery took far too long just a little over 2hrs, understandable that it’s a Friday night but I’m a 10 minute drive away, after rush hour. Food could’ve been warmer it was lukewarm and close to cold. Chips could’ve been done better as they were on the dry side and the soup my partner ordered for her starter was way too fatty. I would’ve given higher if it wasn’t for the delivery (mainly).

Food is amazing. Big Chinese take away fan and Happy Rice are the best one that I have ever had. Salt and pepper chips is amazing but the chicken dishes are second to non. Owners are lovely and chatty. Always very polite and welcoming. Regular user.

Well very dissapointed obviously old chips thrown in the fryer supposed to be salt n chili . One sliced piece of onion and one slice of chili in bottom of bag . Worst ever . Poor poor . Woul def avoid . Rest of meal nothing outstanding quite a lot of fat on meat . Not freshly made at all .

Do not order delivery through their website - delivery time quoted is completely incorrect, and when calling up to ask about the delivery being late there is no apologies and they just say to wait "maybe half an hour more". Terrible customer service and ridiculous waiting over two hours for a delivery past peak times. There are certainly better options in the area.

There are no words for how bad this place is. The prawns were unedible, literally like chewing rubber. Most of what i ordered was binned, just covered in salt and dry, never again.

Service was quick. Ordered Thai green curry, which was not quite as expected. It was spicy hot and did not contain any coconut milk and did not have the usual flavour of a Thai green curry. Not that I pretend to be an expert! There was a lot of meat though and veg (fresh tomatoes!?). This was my first experience of this take away. I wasn't put off, but will probably try the traditional Chinese dishes next time.
