Love this place! The fish is always fresh and crispy, and the chips are perfect every time. Super friendly staff and quick service too. Hands down the best fish and chips around — I wouldn’t go anywhere else!
Absolutely terrible food and atmosphere. A while back when I was a kid we used to come here nearly every Sunday when it was run under the previous owners. Now this place is a dive. The dining room was no longer what we remembered. The seating areas were not organised to accommodate people. Table service was no longer available and takeaway boxes were piled on numerous tables without being picked up and put in the bin. This caused a huge issue for those waiting for takeaway and table service alike as this made the waiting room extremely crowded and lack of staff made waiting times longer than usual. People were not served in accordance to their priority of order so waiting around was a faff. Even if you wanted to throw the rubbish away yourself no bins were put inside. Horrible. The food. Don't even get me started. Before the portions were of a reasonable size and the batter on the fish was cooked to perfection. I was met with a piddly little portion of fish and the batter halfbaked. One of my friends even had their chips on top of the fish causing the batter to peel off and stick to the chips. My chip had hair on it which was absolutely vile!!!! No attention to cleanliness or level of service. The once Great Chip Shop is now in ruin due to terrible management. To anyone coming here. AVOID.
Just picked up some cod and totally shocked by what I was given. Greasproof paper wrapped around the fish and then the batter. Absolutely horrified my child had eaten some of this. What’s going on. Just took my fish back and there answer was that’s how they do it in there country. We are supposed to pick it of. Avoid at all cost. Not same people as was it has changed hands. With regard to your answer is complete lies. No one was aggressive and we certainly won’t be back. And yes mistakes happen and to say wrong order is not true. If someone asked for fish with no batter why did we get greaseproof paper and batter. If you have video of my husband being aggressive please share. This has now been reported to environmental health. Because this is appalling and your attitude as a manager. New owners and you can tell.
We had just done a charity bike ride from Bristol to Cheddar and the only place we could find to park the bike was by the chip shop, so we popped in for a portion of chips and they were delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and obviously love working together. A great place we shall return.
Food cooked fresh to order of good quality and very fairly priced. Such little difference in price between the small, regular and large cod that if you're hungry just go large as this with medium chips is still only circa £10 per person which we consider cheap in the current climate (February 28th 2023). Both staff members, which we understood were the owners, were very accommodating and friendly, opening the restaurant for us to sit in even though we were early. It's also worth noting that they open at 11.30am daily for those of us who like to eat a bit earlier! We will definitely be back!
visited Cheddar Caves last month and had a stopover at Cheddar Fish Bar, amazing food and very happy with the service. These were so accommodating, even though they weren't serving in the restaurant on the day (only take away) but honoured our request and let us eat inside. So really happy with these guys.
Absolutely delicious meal. We sat in and ate and it was all freshly made, couldn't fault anything,the cod was tasty, chips were lovely and the onion rings were amazing, I could of happily had a plate of them! and all at a great price too. Michelle who works there seemed to be multi tasking and she was brilliant, very welcoming, happy and very helpful! Highly recommended place to eat!
