Good cinnamon bun and mild coffee. Perfect for when it's raining outside and you need a cozy cover! Otherwise there are better bakeries, but this one has some kind of vibe
An airy, well-lit modern cafe supporting an attached art gallery and bookstore. Good breakfast choices, nice pastries and coffee. Service was maybe a little slow and it's not as charming as other breakfast spots in Old Town, but very convenient if you have time to kill before your train leaves Waverly across the street.
Very disappointing experience. I ordered a “mushroom roll” which was nothing like a roll — it looked more like a burger with two mushrooms inside bread and some mayonnaise. The “baked eggs” were essentially half a portion of shakshuka, and not well done at all. What made it worse was the service. The lady serving us (an older woman) literally threw the cutlery onto the table, did not respond when we said “thank you,” and overall made us feel very unwelcome. For this, I paid £23 for a breakfast that was simply not worth it. It was my very first day in Edinburgh, and this left me feeling very sad. Truly not the experience I was hoping for — I would never come here again.
Not bad food here, but not great either. Unfortunately my Sourdough Tomato Toast was overly toasted and quite cold by the time it got to me and this makes sourdough very tough to eat, as to hard on your teeth. The tomato was nice though. My husbands scrambled eggs again, not as he would of liked. They came full of coriander & chives and he would of preferred just scrambled egg. The menu did not state the addition of either, which I think maybe it should. The staff were lovely, very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere, was quiet and slightly flat though, so unfortunately I don’t think we would return here again.
Strategically located near the Edinburgh Waverley station, this cafe opens quite early and offers drinks and cakes to refresh your morning time. Plenty of seats but can be very busy after 10am. Come early if you want a more quiet atmosphere. Drinks are okay, bakery is nice. Prices are okay considerin its location, maybe targeted to travellers as well. But seems quite popular for the city dwellers to come in group or individually.
Mediocre overpriced coffee, cake was ok but did I just pay £9 for a flat white and a piece of carrot cake? Rude and indifferent staff that won’t acknowledge you and barely do their job.
Quality of the cakes & pastries is very poor and the staff seemed to not care very much (e.g. nobody came to clean our table, in the end we had to get up and do it ourselves).
Needed a bit of time to kill between changing trains and the Fruitmarket Cafe was recommended by a family member. First impressions were 'okay', unfortunately some of the staff weren't very attentive, otherwise, the staff here were friendly and the menu had a good range of drinks, hot and cold snacks and light meals. Overall the food was fresh, affordable and the cafe itself had a vibrant atmosphere.
Great atmosphere, coffee and service. The lime and pistachu cake was amazing.
