Nipped in for a quick bite before catching our train. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Seems like the type of bar that is lively when it hosts events.
The Black Rose Tavern was my first food experience in Edinburgh and it did not disappoint! Designed as an alternative/rock/gothic pub, it offers a fun and inclusive experience. The staff here are incredibly friendly, especially to tourists. They helped me with the best Scottish lager to drink and also gave me a free glass of Irn Bru to really get an authentic Scottish vibe! The food here was fantastic. I tried Haggis Balls as a starter, which was my first time trying Haggis. They were cooked well and I quite enjoyed them! For anyone curious, they taste something like between corned beef and a pork sausage roll. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating here, I recommend the visit as the surrounding area is wonderful.
Visiting Edinburgh for the first time. We were looking for lunch and decided to give Black Rose Tavern a try. We ordered several hamburgers, hotdogs, Fish & Chips, and baked potato. The hamburgers were decent, Fish was a solid good portion. The extra cheese on the baked potato was a little different, but good. However, we were surprised that there was no service after food was delivered.
Tasty beers, 4 on hand-pulls. Conversation-level background music. Windows open to the outdoor patio. Smokers allowed on patio and cigar smoke wafts inside. Very comfortable inside.
Normally I would have given a five star review here but last night was a bit of an anomaly. Got charged two different prices for the same drinks and they closed at 11pm. Now there may have been a perfectly good reason but it definitely took the shine off my night out with my daughter

We only popped in for a quick beer and plate of chips, but they still provided excellent service. Skeleton guitarist added to the rock decor. So black inside that it was odd to come back out into daylight!
Awesome food, we were served quite quickly. :) the prices are also pretty good considering the portion sizes; the atmosphere is really cool, kind of like a rock bar, I loved the music, and there's a functioning jukebox so you can put on what you like.
