We needed to apply for the Certificate of Permanent Resident Abroad for our 22-yr-old son last May and we have received the paper in Easter this year. One might think it took a long time, so I would like to share my experience. Ms Leventi and Mrs Plevri are doing voluntary work, therefore they do not reply emails or answering calls immediately. Ms Leventi most of the time replies to my emails in the evening during weekends. Initially it did take a long time for her to pick up my emails (I did give up trying at one point for half a year) but once she picked up my case with all the supporting documents in March, the process started going pretty quickly. So don't give up trying. The required papers that we picked up from the consulate which needed to be emailed to the military service is GBP53 (cash). I forgot to tell my son about it and Mrs Plevri was very kind to let my son pay by bank transfer on the spot. Once the papers were emailed to the military service from our end, we received the email back with the certificate in less than 10 days (before Easter). Mission completed!! Ms Leventi and Mrs Plevri have been courteous and helpful, we are grateful for their voluntary service.

My husband and I have twice needed the help and service provided by Mrs Plevri and it has been excellent on both occasions. We found her to be very friendly and courteous and are very grateful for the help provided.

Great responsiveness and support. Mrs Papaioannou guided me through the process and assisted me successfully with my request. I recommend to reach her out with your request and you will see this by yourself. Hopefully she will be serving in Edinburgh for much longer.

I'm so grateful to Mrs Melpomeni Pleuri for gave up so many hours of her personal time to help me and my son. We are very lucky to have her here, who without even being paid serves the needs of all of us throughout Edinburgh.

Mrs Plevri, was truly very helpful and prompt. My only issue/question, is how come service like that, is unpaid by the greek government? But again many thanks to her, she saved us a lot of time and effort especially since the actual Greek embassy in London doesn't have a phone line rather than a voicemail telling you to go to a website.

Unfortunately, the consulate is next to useless and a waste of resources (if it occupies any to start with). The simple task of registering a birth cannot be performed and they offer 3 alternatives: 1) Use the embassy in London (a rigmarole of its own to get an appointment) 2) Grant power-of-attorney to the consul to pursuit the issue themselves (why not do it in Greece granting a relative PoA there?) 3) Send the documents by plain mail (instead of a diplomatic pouch), which according to the consul it has 100% fail rate the last 9 months, with no explanation given to the failed applications. Quite sad considering the effect gov.gr has had so far for inland affairs.

I needed them for a complicated, time-critical issue. People responded very fast to my e-mail and they acted very efficiently, helping me to resolve the issue I had on time. Great people, always very kind and very helpful! We are really lucky to have them!

I needed to verify 3 complex legal documents in the UK, towards a financial transaction taking place in Greece. The lady ambassador was knowledgeable and efficient. Upon reading the documents, she also made necessary additions/corrections and gave me helpful, friendly advice. My needs were addressed in good time. Overall, I received a very positive impression.

I needed the Greek Consulate to help me with official paperwork. Mrs Plevri, the Honorary Consul, was very helpful and thorough. She saved me a lot of time and costs for something that if it were not for the Consulate in Edinburgh I would have had to go to the Greek embassy in London to get done. As a side note, remember that the Greek Consul does not have any support staff to help her, and in fact as most Greek Consuls she does most of the work without the pay and benefits given to Embassy staff. Ευχαριστώ κυρία Πλεύρη!
