Hot water pipes run through room 4 so the room was boiling. Window barely opened and wouldn't stay open, floor crooked, tv ancient and its a tiny small size double bed. Awful "artwork" in rooms, donkeys old faded pics that have slipped out of their borders. Was clean, had toiletries, bathroom was well kept but couldn't recommend.

I stayed at this hotel on the 24th and 25th of October and accidentally left a pair of running shoes in my room. I’ve tried to contact the hotel several times by email and phone, but unfortunately no one has replied. I’m still hoping to recover my belongings, but the lack of response has been very disappointing. It’s a pity, because the stay itself was nice, but customer service after checkout has been very poor.

Overall, this was a comfortable and pleasant stay. The rooms were clean, nicely decorated, and felt welcoming. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, which made the experience more enjoyable. The location is fantastic—just 2 miles from Edinburgh Castle, making it an easy walk into the city. The neighborhood felt safe and had plenty of nearby amenities such as groceries and restaurants. On the downside, the TV didn’t work during our stay, and the internet occasionally cut out. This may have been a temporary issue, but it was inconvenient at times. Despite being in the basement with only a view of the staff apartment we still got enough light. Despite those minor setbacks, the overall comfort, cleanliness, and excellent location make this a solid option for visiting Edinburgh.

The location is great, situated along many bus routes to the city center. However, the rooms really need some upgrades. The bathroom was modern, but a proper curtain for the only window in the room was missing, so we woke at dawn. Furthermore, the bed was incredibly small, even in our "Deluxe" two-person bedroom.

We needed a room for one night (travelled up to see Robbie Williams in concert); so we needed a room, and that was it. Didn’t need staff or a breakfast, just somewhere to sleep. And this was PERFECT. Parking is limited but we managed to bag one of the two parking spaces at the front, which was mega handy. The room was meticulously clean, seemed like it was all brand new furniture and very clean and quick thick pile carpet. Instructions to get there and get in were straight forward and easy to follow. Just pick your key up from the lockbox, let yourself into the building and then your room. The hotel was quiet (only saw one other couple while we were there), ideally placed with a bus stop across the road and very clean. Perfect place for a quick overnighter.

Very clean, warm and nice room and bathroom. Beautiful view through the window on back side of building. Always available tea, coffee and biscuits. However not very close to the city centre.

Nice convenient location. Clean large room. Local rating 4 stars, but this is local Scottish travel service. Good 3 stars, no breakfast, no electricity in the bathroom for toothbrush, otherwise recommend it for visitors.

Don't book! Shameful service. We had booked bedrooms 2 months in advance. 8 hours before check in, they decided to cancel the booking on us for alleged "wrong card details". The details were entered automatically via autocompletion, with details that we use regularly on other online purchases. They did not even call us nor tried to reconcile the matter nor warn us. Just sent us an automatic email. Grateful we checked our inbox that morning, for we would have turned up for a bad surprise. As a result, we had to pay twice more expensive for another hotel.

AVOID. They cancelled on the morning of the scheduled arrival. Disgusting - we booked two rooms for two people travelling up from London and we woke up to the booking being cancelled "because the credit card was invalid", allegedly. Despite the fact the card works everywhere else just fine. If they tried to call and solve the situation, it would've been sold within 2 minutes - we have many more cards here - but instead they chose to cancel the booking entirely and mess up our plans. Now we have to rebook elsewhere last minute and pay more than double the price. To heck with Alexander Guest House, it's a low down service and they don't pick up the phone, just send clunky short rude emails. Please learn to speak English, that would certainly improve your situation considerably.

Disrespectful service - terrible manners - no hello, no sorry - the owners don't speak much English. They cancelled a double booking for professional musicians I placed months prior on the morning of the guests' scheduled arrival. Reason? Allegedly our card payment didn't go through, which is hard to believe as I use this card for all online shopping and have plenty funds. Nobody's picking up the phone, the emails are short, unapologetic and rude. Never again.
