   If you are not as poor like me don’t live here. Here use old fashion key to lock your door, every time I use it I’m so afraid either locked my stuff in my room or broke the key while opening the door. The lady forget to tell me the password of the entrance, almost being locked outside. The toilet is outside the room so I hv to lock the door every time I go toilet. There is a sink your room so you will hear water running through the pipe if someone using. You will also hear if someone running in the corridor. The location is bit far 20-30 mins bus from city centre. The bus station is not far 3-4 mins walk, but in the night time quite quiet. So I suggest you BACK TO YOUR ROOM EARLIER! And I came in Dec so get dark quickly. STAY SAFE I can’t use the hotel WiFi in my room tooooo, so I end up using data

   Although we had prepared ourselves to be slumming it at this accommodation, we did not expect these atrocious conditions. From check-in to check-out, the whole experience was beyond unacceptable, even for a “budget hotel”. As others have mentioned, the check-in process was dodgy, unclear and completely impersonal; provided only with two sets of phone numbers taped at the entrance, my friend and I struggled to even make through the front door without a problem arising. We had been offered a late self check- in around 8 pm, without any prior instructions given on booking.com- for context, we had emailed the owners earlier enquiring check-in instructions, but were met with silence. In this case we were forced to call the numbers which continually failed to connect, only having success using WhatsApp; where the owner gave us the door code and directed us to collect our room key from a random bowl, placed carelessly on the table in the hall. As two travellers exhausted from a day-long journey, this was such an unnecessary and entirely preventable added drama. This stressful check-in was clearly a bad omen foreshadowing the rest of the stay, with the room itself being at par with the Murrayfield Guesthouse’s incredibly low standards. It was dirty, sheets with unidentified stains, mouldy showers and taps, dusty surfaces and an obviously left for centuries uncleaned carpet flooring. Further it was unreliable, the bed was uncomfortable, the pillows flat, the hair-drier would randomly stop working mid-use, the walls incredibly thin, and we were provided with no smaller hair towels. A mini-fridge would have been appreciated, but we understand it’s a budget room, and so it wasn’t an expectation we held. We booked a double-bed room, with a private toilet but a shared bathroom; the toilet needed some serious work, having basically no water pressure, we found it blocked upon arrival. Additionally, the shared bathroom was stripped to the minimum, with several broken tiles, a tired accordion-style folded shower door that would, without fail, upon every use get stuck and no shower mat. Meaning in combination with the broken tiles, the plenty of water from its communal use turned the bathroom floor into a safety hazard. Most concerningly, the room was unsafe, with the minor issue regarding curtain leaving a gap of window exposed on the right side, and the major being the undisclosed cleanings. With absolutely no staff in sight, we were not made aware nor given the option to choose for cleaners to entire our room. Only realising this after coming back from a day out to find a freshly-made bed, that obviously none of us had done. This meant our suitcases were left unlocked and with our belongings out, for a stranger to be able to access them freely. Although nothing was taken or didn’t seem touched at all, the issue here lies in the lack of transparency. As guests, we should have at the least been made aware of this circumstance, so as to organise ourselves accordingly. Ultimately, it is a real shame, as the location is good, having close proximity to a bus stop that is only 20 minutes out from the city centre. However, this is not enough to compensate for the overall poor experience. Edinburgh and Scotland as a whole are absolutely beautiful and must-sees, just do yourself a favour and stay literally anywhere else.

   We arrived at the place on November 25th, 2025 at 13.20 within the specified check in time (13.00-17.30) but no one was there. The door was locked. Instead there was a note on the door with 2 numbers and the instruction were to call to get an access code. Both numbers were voicemails with the message that the caller is unavailable and that we should leave a message. Despite the messages no one called us back. We waited 1.30 hrs outside the place, no sign of life whatsoever and no reply to our repeaetd calls, We knocked on the door repeatedly, the doorlbell was not working, we asked around but no one seemed to know what was going on. Moreover, we could have a look at the inside from a window on the left handside of the building. There was a sign NO VACANCIES AND and inside were stacked beds and dirty sheets, dusted and left there for many days. In the end we had to leave and book a room in a place nearby. We had prepaid 4 nights at the place and during our stay in Edinburgh we visited Murrayfield Guest house daily and we called the numbers several times but no response whatsoever. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. BOOKING.COM SHOULD NOT INCLUDE THIS PLACE IN ITS OFFERS. THE PLACE IS CLEARLY CLOSED AND YET THEY TOOK OUR PAYMENT WITHOUT DELIVERING ANY SERVICE. WE ARE CONSIDERING LEGAL ACTION.

   The hotel had no staff on-site, and we stood outside in the cold wind for a long time. We could only enter when someone finally came out. I had booked two nights in advance, but the staff told us that our room had already been checked in by someone else. We had no choice but to book another expensive hotel near midnight. My mom is nearly 65 years old, and we still had to carry the heavy suitcase to switch to another hotel. Although we received a refund a few days later, Agoda promised us a 10% compensation, but they went back on their word. They called the hotel to confirm, and the hotel staff said that we had decided not to stay at the last minute. I have never experienced such a ridiculous situation. If you also booked this hotel, be careful; there’s a high possibility that you might not be able to check in on the day and end up sleeping on the street.

   ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ Comfortable Stay with a Few Minor Drawbacks I stayed at Murrayfield Guest House while visiting Edinburgh and had a generally pleasant experience. The location is great close to public transport and within walking distance of Murrayfield Stadium. The room was cleanish and comfortable, with everything I needed for a short stay. However, there were a few small issues that kept it from being a full 4 stars. The check-in process felt a bit impersonal, and the room could use a little updating. Noise from the street was also noticeable at times. As I arrived, I was told my room was not ready despite making the checking time for 1pm. Overall, it’s a good value option however slightly expensive for what you’re paying for but for a short stay in Edinburgh it’s better if you’re travelling solo, and only for one or two night’s. comfortable and convenient, just not quite exceptional.

   This accommodation is a death trap. I have travelled all over the UK and have NEVER walked into such a horrible place. Shower had mold everywhere, floors were filthy, carpet was filthy, and bed linens had huge yellow stains. Onsite mgmt told me he had a bacterial infection. In these days of COVID and other infections, to have someone onsite who has a bacterial infection is unconscionable. If you want to stay somewhere where you are sure to catch a disease or some sort of infection, this is the place for you. Beware

   Avoid this place at all costs.. I have booked this place through Airbnb last month. I regret not to read the comments here beforehand. It is not a guest house not even a hostel but something like a paleolithic accommodation.. The room was advertised as with a private bathroom adjacent to the bedroom.. It was adjacent to the room but it was definitely not a private one. When checked in bathroom s door was open with no key supplied to me or a signpost ensuring that it was a private one. Some cavemen already left loads of hair in the sink and left their property in the toilet and it took almost 10 minutes to flush it. It was disgusting... I called the number right away and owner cheekly answered "it is exclusively for your use(room no 1) but we can't stop the other guests using it" I heard other people were using the bathroom few times at nigh... The room was facing to a shrub and extremely claustrophobic. When opened the window there was a dense smell of urine coming in. I have not even seen a soul working there, all done by phone calls. Place is dirty and I can talk on and on.. This place should be closed down for not complying with the health and safety regulations of the 21st Century..

   If you like the following, it’s fine:- Glittery black wallpaper on all 4 walls so you wake up at 3 am with a claustrophobic panic attack. Basin that leaks so badly that it floods the floor. Broken wardrobe rail. No management on site. Mirror light broken. The only window obliterated by overgrown shrub. Warning signs everywhere .
