Great location for the rugby and right on bus, train and tram routes. It's basic but clean and decent value for money. Good bars and restaurants nearby.
On the way to Murrayfield do yourself a favour, buy temporary membership and have a drink inside. Wonderful! Bit of history. Tartan carpets included. And the best meat pies in Edinburgh if not Scotland.
For £37 what do you expect?! Basic room with ensuite. Shower for freezing cold and I could hardly fit under it. Large business building looks right into the bathroom and easy to see people in the shower. Location is awful ....woken at 5am with the noise of bin lorries, trams buses etc. Checked out at 8 am....couldn't get out fast enough! What do you expect for £37?!
Rooms basic, paint peeling of walls, shower taps coming off wall, no pressure to shower just trickles. Beds clean and fresh. Very noisy , Tram runs outside window till late at night and early in morning. Very disappointing.
This place is fine. It’s not *nice*, but at this price point (like £80 for a Sunday in mid summer) and its location in Haymarket, it’s a good deal. The important things are perfectly clean - the bedding, mattress, towels. The easy to clean things are clean - toilet, floors. The "it would be a good touch to clean" things like the inside of the radiator, or the maintenance of the paint - these are not well done. The inside of the radiator in our room had clearly not been cleaned in MANY years - I have never seen so much dust in my life. But, the floors were clean and all the touchable surfaces were clean. And you’re paying like half the price of any other hotel and barely more than a youth hostel for two people. The manager was super friendly and very helpful, I didn’t get his name but he was maybe… Eritrean? The cleaning staff also were very nice. This is a totally 100% fine 2* hotel experience. I wouldn’t spend a week here but for an overnight or even a long weekend it’s good for what it is trying to do - give a barebones, cheap price, centrally located hotel. I appreciate that they haven’t yet been turned into a boutique hotel at 3x the price. Our bed was indeed not very comfortable - I think we had the worst room at the top of the building as the bathroom was also a retrofit, in the past it was down the hall as a shared bathroom, so it is weirdly and amateurly "inserted" in the room. I did see all of the rooms when we checked in as we were VERY early so we got the first available (and probably worst) room, and some of the rooms we passed did match what is in the photos. So they're not lying or anything, it's just every room is different.
Some place would like to give it 5 star for nostalgic memories but it's needing some TLC. Room is like a 3rd world country room but people who run it are awesome
Booked the suite room at first looking further into the room bed was snapped in 3 different places a glass shower door that’s was missing from the shower stored under the bed! Going downstairs staff were rude about it, offered a new room took it, however the new room we got moved to had nothing on it compared to suite and no refund was offered unless I walked out of the hotel! On moving into the new room, lights were smashed and duck taped together, curtains and blinds were hanging down, carpets had big rips in it, the bed was broken big dips in it every time you moved away from the ditch you were just rolling back down into it, asked for room to be serviced the next day no bins were emptied, no towels changed but had been in the room to do what exactly?? Bathroom was just so unhygienic! I wouldn’t let me dog stay in this hotel let a human!!!!!
Right across from Haymarket Station! The receptionist was helpful and friendly, rooms are big with high ceilings and vintage furniture, quiet. It's not for everyone as it is quite basic but for the price it's perfect.
Superfriendly staff but there was no hot water for a long time. I had to flush water for several minutes. It is not so friendly to the environment to waste water like that. A very old house and it needs a renovation. The carpet was dirty but comfortable beds and the location is perfect. No elevator.
