We have an amazing view on 6th floor!! Staff are excellent brekky is nice too! Rooms are equipped with everything you need. Really good bus stop outside 43 takes you into Edinburgh city centre fairly regularly takes 15 min. There's a little play park at the side for little ones to roam around it's quite small but good for 30mins or so for some fresh air.

The hotel itself is alright. Breakfast is okay, the rooms are clean, service is good, it seems quite modern. EXCEPT for the windows. I don't know what their problem is, but they're not at all insulated. They feel like from the 19th century. I was on the 4th floor and honestly, sometimes I thought that I left the windows open. The hotel is right next to a 4 lane road, which in itself is not a problem. However, you hear every single little noise, every car, everything. Even if both windows are closed, you hear the outside world as if they were wide open. Same problem with the door, it felt paper thin and you can hear every single thing in the hallway as if it was open.

Extremely disappointing experience considering the big name and high price of the hotel. Booking.com messed up my booking so badly and ruined our first family travel to Scotland. When I started booking I chose the Holiday Inn - Royal Mile which was close to the train station and other central attractions m. But somehow I ended up with this dated odd location Holiday Inn which is frustrating. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH BOOKING.COM. They have downhill and try their best to fix you with the worst option to optimise their commission. Gate this hotel and regretting my trip thanks to this all mess. If you like some walking or breathing space forget about it. A tiny pigeon hole is allocated to a family of 4, including 2 grownups and 2 teens. No chairs in the room as there is no space for them. Don’t expect much in terms of cleanliness either. Feel free to find the hair (completely opposite from your family hair type and colour) everywhere. Teens are provided one sofa bed to share in this disgustingly congested room. That sofa was not even laid out or bed was made up for them when we arrived at the hotel in the evening after a long day. They pulled out sofa bed themselves to get the complimentary pile of dust on them. There was no bedding provided so they needed to rush to the reception to enquire about. The lady who came to inspect, brought some bedding after thorough inspection line we were hiding bedding somewhere. But didn’t bring any pillows. The request to provide pillows met with quite disapproving stare. I had to clean the washroom before my kids could use them as they are used to clean bathrooms. Location is totally odd for tourists. We had to hire cabs for each visit to and from the hotel, unlike the one in Central location (Royal Mile) from where you can find most attractions on walking distance. This is a complete waste of money really. Don’t bother to book through Booking.com if you want to avoid their deception.

This review is based on my four-day stay at the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh - City West in August 2025. My experience was extremely disappointing and did not meet expectations, especially considering the high price. I chose this hotel anticipating a comfortable and excellent stay, but instead, I found it offered very poor value for money. The primary issue was the room size, which was a significant disappointment. The room was exceptionally small, cramped, and felt nothing like a high-cost hotel. For the price paid, the value was simply not there. Adding to the frustration was a negative experience with the booking and cancellation process. I attempted to cancel my reservation, which was made through Booking.com. Booking.com instructed me to contact the hotel directly, but the hotel staff informed me that since I had booked through a third-party, I had to handle the cancellation with Booking.com. This back-and-forth between the two parties was a waste of time and prevented me from resolving the issue. Unfortunately, I was forced to stay for the entire four-day duration. Based on this experience, I will no longer book any IHG-managed hotels, including Holiday Inn properties, anywhere in the world. I will also exercise extreme caution when using Booking.com for future reservations.

This hotel was great! Comfy beds and breakfast included was greatly appreciated! Proximity to transit and groceries was also awesome! The staff was great!!! We got lucky and were on the side of the hotel that let us see Edinburgh Castle in the distance. The photo is with the 15x zoom on my phone. The front desk needs to control the AC in your room. The local thermostat really only seems to show you the temp in the room. The only other thing that we knew about but forgot until we checked in was that you have to pay for parking at the hotel. They do give you a voucher code for 50% off parking which helps but it’d be nice if it was included.

Perfect for a vacation. We were a family of 3 at the hotel and spent a week vacation exploring Edinburgh. The room was with a beautiful view, comfortable and clean. Breakfasts are typically British with little vegetables but nutritious. There are quite a few stores next to the hotel which is a plus when it comes to shopping. There is a bus stop under the hotel - to the center 10/15 minutes. The only drawback is the lack of a small refrigerator in the room, a safe and breakfast on worm days only until 09:30 which made queues for tables around 09:00. Reception very helpful. The price/quality ratio is very attractive.

Just got back from a brilliant trip to Edinburgh. This hotel was amazing for what we paid. The room was tidy and the people who worked all over Christmas went above and beyond. Breakfast was excellent and they let us take away food as well when we were in a rush. Was anxious about the stay after reading some reviews but it worked well for us and we didn’t have any problems. Would most definitely come back.

I cannot recommend this hotel in any way, since it is neither child-friendly nor suitable for couples who want to have a romantic evening or want to enjoy a romantic time. The cleaning service leaves a lot to be desired. They should probably learn their job again because I clean myself better at home the windows are leaking here you have to constantly ask the staff that you can get something here, be it a toilet brush the flush didn't work here the bathtub was leaking you couldn't take a proper bath everyday noises from the children have upset many here and I will be here never in my life more check-in not recommended very, very unfriendly this hotel should you travel with children or as a couple who is newly in lovePersonally, I cannot recommend this hotel at all as a family traveler and if friends or family members are checked into the same hotel, it is also not welcome that they pick you up from your room or stay in your room for a short time. I cannot recommend it at all extremely disappointed and will never book anything here again in my life.

Just an absolute lovely stay at the hotel. The view was grand of the castle and Edinburgh and we caught several seasons and colours including a rainbow as well. The staff was brilliant. Had a pizza made by them at 11pm made to order after a whole day of walking around Edinburgh was was excellent and a great way to end the day. Room was big and the cleanliness was spot on. The bath room slightly smaller but was totally adequate with a good sized tub. Can't fault the place. The bus stop was a minute walk and was around 20 mins away from the old city. A great experience.
