We went there for New Year’s Eve dinner. We had made a reservation through TheFork two weeks in advance and waited a day and a half for the booking confirmation. Once it was confirmed, on New Year’s Eve we showed up at the restaurant for dinner. We were told that the reservation had not been seen, so we would have to wait 45 minutes to be seated. We agreed, waited, and came back after an hour. Then another staff member arrived, rather arrogant and a bit rude, and told us to wait another 20 minutes. When we asked for an explanation, he tried to blame us, saying that we had made a mistake on TheFork by booking for 8:00 a.m. for breakfast instead of dinner. When we showed him the confirmation email proving there was no mistake, he didn’t know what to say anymore. We then noticed an empty table (we noticed it ourselves) and pointed out that it wouldn’t be a problem for us to sit there, even though it was a table for four and we were five—we were willing to squeeze in. At that point, not knowing what else to do or say, he was forced to seat us. The food, for a fixed menu priced at £105, was nowhere near worth the price. Overall, the experience was very disappointing. The only positive note goes to the two waiters who served us, who were very kind and courteous. If you do not check reservations made through TheFork, then you should deactivate your profile to avoid these kinds of problems in the future.

The restaurant is entered through the hotel which is well presented with many items from Orkney on the walls. There are two areas, one at the bar with various types of tables and seating and a bigger dining area up to the window with tables for two. We had a table for four put together. The service throughout was superb, helpful, attentive and friendly, the food was also hugely enjoyable and drink to match in champagne. Non alcoholic beer also included. 5 courses for dinner.

I visited The Dunstane restaurant a couple of weeks ago to try their new menu and was blown away by the quality of the food. The menu celebrates the finest seasonal and locally sourced produce, and you can tell how much care and attention has gone into carefully curating the dishes. We enjoyed the Highland rack of lamb and dry-aged sirloin of beef. Couldn’t fault the mains, both were presented beautifully and tasted as good as they looked. The lobster ravioli with the beef was outstanding, would have loved more of this but all the flavours complimented each other so well. The pistachio brûlée was out of this world, such a unique dish but the flavours were stunning and worked so well together. Whilst the menu is at a higher price point, I highly recommend booking for a celebration or special occasion. Such a lovely experience overall

Dinner at the Dunstane Restaurant, there was some distance to travel from the old town but we were not disappointed. Warm, cosy and homely vibe with a drizzle of Christmas spirit. Service was fantastic amd we opted for a 3 course meal, the risotto was great, just the correct level of creaminess, starters really pop and open our appetite. However, my wife pudding was slightly too sweet. Sad that I did not have a chance to stay at the hotel rooms. A good adventure with a rewarding delicious meal.

We enjoyed a wonderful evening dinner. The hotel staff arranged some special adjustments to the menu because of my wife’s dietary needs which were carried out by the chef without any fuss. The atmosphere was beautiful and the waiter was attentive. Most of all, however, was the food, elegantly presented and very tasty.
