Impeccable place, staff, vibe, and location. The best hostel I have stayed in my life, for sure. A highlight was Felipe, a volunteer who introduced the hostel to me and my friend and was very attentive and helpful. Surely I will come back to Edinburgh, and High Street Hostel will be my eternal accommodation.
Okay this was actually very lovely. Friendly staff, friendly other travellers, BEAUTIFUL place in general, very clean toilets/shower, Beds were quite small, but it's a hostel so don't get your expectations high. Very good value for price!!
This is the best hostel in Edinburgh. It was very good value, the vibe was spot on. Everybody friendly. Lots of artwork, very central location. The upper bunk bed was a bit squeaky, but this may be my fault as I am a bit fat.
I stayed at this hostel for a few days and it was definitely a good choice. It’s well located, close to the city center and the train station, and for the price, I thought it was more than fair. The bunk beds were comfortable and clean, each with its own power socket. You also get a locker with a key (no need to bring a padlock). During my stay, there were no unusual noises at night—just the usual snoring from fellow guests. The common areas were well maintained: the kitchen was spacious and fully equipped, and the lounge was a nice place to relax, meet people, chat, or do whatever you felt like. They organize activities every day, which was a great touch, although I couldn’t join any due to other plans. The hostel was clean and in good condition. The staff were super friendly and always around if you needed anything. The overall atmosphere was great, with lots of travelers and a really positive vibe. I’d definitely come back and totally recommend it.
This was my first-ever hostel experience; I usually only book hotels, even budget motels. The only reason I booked a hostel for this trip is that I was already paying for a hotel in Paris and this was a quick stop. Somewhere there was a miscommunication regarding my need for a bottom bunk due to a disability - whether that was my fault or the hostel’s, I honestly can’t recall, as I booked it in Canada on a device I don’t have with me in Scotland. BUT the staff went above and beyond. Even when I offered to pay more, they figured it out and put me in volunteer staff quarters for my first night. I explained my disability as they tried to see if I could manage a top bunk, and when they realized the severity, they went out of their way to help me. Dana and her manager made this accommodation possible, and I am extremely grateful. A note: volunteer staff don’t fully follow dorm etiquette (someone ate chips in a no-eating area, another person chatted loudly in quiet zones) but this is not a critique of management - Dana and the team did everything they could. Location: Excellent: walking distance to everything. Facilities & Comfort: Beds are equipped with reading lights and outlets but are uncomfortable; showers take ~5 minutes to warm; breakfast starts at 7:30am though many guests leave earlier; co-ed toilets; limited snack options (all sweets; just selling granola bars as a nonperishable healthy option can make all the difference). Overall: Highly recommended, especially for staff dedication, location, and personality. Stat references, as I noticed other reviews mentioned height and weight: I am 290 pounds, 6’2”, age 30, disabled, chronic pain and difficulty with mobility. I still rate this hostel 5 stars and would absolutely stay here again.
This hostel was amazing! Had a lot of character and made it feel very unique. staff were awesome super helpful. Breakfast was cheap to purchase. They ran events often to engage people in meeting one an other. Basically in the cetre of town and withing walking distance of almost everything. Rooms wear good and security was enough. Only improvement I would suggest would be a bit of an update on showers but other than that its fantastic
Great location, very dedicated to activities. The rooms aren’t super clean and the bathrooms and showers are shared per floor, and mixed. No elevator! Due to the historical build. The breakfast was okay, but this is definitely on the lower end of quality compared to other hostels.
This is an excellent hostel for a reasonable price. The staff is very nice and helpful. The rooms are quite small, but comfortable with nice beds. There is a locker for each bed and a lamp and power socket by the bed. On the ground floor there is a large lounge and a large kitchen. Breakfast is available for £3. The hostel is situated at a quiet street in the centre of Edinburgh. I really recommend this hostel to anyone who is looking for a cheap and comfortable accommodation in Edinburgh.
