“We had a brilliant time! Tom was quick to respond to emails beforehand, and very welcoming. The hostel itself was a lovely space with great atmosphere (including record player, pool table and lots of twinkly lights). Thank you very much! - Everyone at the Edinburgh University Folk Society”
“I took my daughter and her friend who are 13. What a fantastic campsite. Clean facilities, even during night when i expected no toilet roll! The bike track looked great. The cafe and shop where both lovely. We enjoyed walking into Comrie. Staff where more than willing to help with any problems. The walk with a wheelbarrow up to the drum was tough myself but good much needed exercise!! We will definetely return. Thankyou”
“This is by far the best hostel I have stayed in. The staff is super friendly, they have so many different events every night to get you to socialize with other travellers. When traveling and staying in hostels you don't always want to buy a whole bottle of oil or some salt and pepper, at Castle Rock they have tons of different spices, oil, free tea, coffee and even plant-based milk available for you to use! This is the first time I've stayed in a hostel with so many things. They have a super cozy movie room too. And a quite lounge where you can go chill in silence if that's what you prefer.”
“This hostel was a very friendly cheery place with a very kind staff. The hostel had a good location and good security as well. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and the kitchen was well stocked. The lounge area was welcoming and made it easy to meet people. Really enjoyed the stay here!”
“My 1st experience in a hostel? Absolutely great. Impecibly clean washrooms room & hallways. We'll supplied kitchen. Fab location. The staff were awesome..friendly warm & helpful. Great experience.”

“This was the perfect place for us to stay overnight for a wedding nearby! The views are absolutely stunning and the hostel is pretty, clean, warm, and friendly. The staff are especially kind, caring, and helpful - our trip was made memorable by the friendliness of Heather who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. She was so inviting and generous and the stay massively exceeded our expectations, and will be remembered as a really special weekend thanks to her kindness and the efforts of other staff.”
“Spacy Apartment in a quiet corner, however Shops, Cafés and Haymarket Station in near vicinity.”
“This is the best hostel in Edinburgh. It was very good value, the vibe was spot on. Everybody friendly. Lots of artwork, very central location. The upper bunk bed was a bit squeaky, but this may be my fault as I am a bit fat.”
“It's a Homeless Hostel The Highest Standard possible, yes they may be people there with addiction and alcohol problem's, I'm staying here for some time and the staff and place deserve 4.5 star”
“Our stay at Haystack hostel was excellent! This hostel is the tiniest in Edinburgh, giving it a cozy vibe. The dorms and living room reflect this coziness, giving ample opportunity to rest in between your travels. The toilets and showers are squeaky clean and (not unimportant): there is warm water! However, the highlight to our stay was undoubtedly the kitchen. It has everything you need and more! Fridge, cutlery, pots, pans, ovens, a microwave and tons of freebies left by previous visitors. To top everything off, the staff are friendly and welcoming. They accompany you to your dorm and give an extensive tour. Additionally, they are knowledgeable about the city and give good tips on the best places to go out!”
“For what you pay it's great value. Campus grounds are nice, Reception staff great. The bedroom is basic but the bed is very comfortable. The shared bathroom is clean but basic. Breakfast is fab. If you're on a budget or want something a little different I'd highly recommend it.”
“I stayed in a 6 person room, everything is clean and well constructed, a locker is available for your kit and locks are rentable for £3 if you forget yours. Facilities are everything you could need and the kitchen is well equipped if you want to do some cooking Staff are super friendly, always give any new arrivals a nice greeting/walk around and can't do enough to help with any issues! For a hostel, it's everything you can ask for and a greet price and location! Will definitely be back next time I'm in the city”
“Place was well maintained and staff were nice helped me with parking as it was weakend there were free parking around the area and felt safe I left my car there for 1 and a half days nothing happend to it room was nice”
“Exceptional service, Catherine was a 10 star help”
“Cheap accommodation with good value for money in the heart of Edinburgh without the exhorbatant prices. Staying in a POd is the cheapest with towels and lockers with very comfortable sleeping arrangements. They also do private doubles en suite for a little bit extra but still cheaper than their other competitors. The showers went beyond my expectations, so they were a big plus for me. I will definitely return at some point in the future when circumstances allow.”
“The team work really hard to support young people experiencing homelessness.”
“Staff are all extremely kind and compassionate.”
“Best council staff you will meet, they treat folk fair help folk been in here a few times now the place has pretty much saved me from sleeping on the streets, these staff are a credit to Edinburgh”
“Amazing place and location. Right at the center of public transportation.”
“Hold your horses, guys! You are going to read the most extensive review of St. Christopher Inn today. 1. Location: The location is perfect for tours. Everything is walkable. If you are arriving from the Airport, the final bus station is just 400m away from the hostel. 2. Accommodation: Clean Linen with Blankets provided. There is a cage beneath your bed to store luggage. Remember to bring your padlock if you want to secure it. Padlock can also be purchased from the reception. 3. Showers and Toilets: Separate section outside the dorms. Regularly cleaned. Free shower Gel provided at the reception. Towels are not provided but can be rented. 4. Food: Breakfast can be purchased for 6 GBP. Served at Belushi's. Belushi's also offer 25% discount on food if you are staying at the hostel. 5. Kitchen and Luggage: There is a Chill-out cum Waiting room with a small kitchenette. You will find a Kettle, Fridge and Microwave there with some utensils. You can't cook but Ready to eat meals can be heated. Lockers can be rented to store luggage. 6 GBP per day for the large locker. 6. Water: Water dispenser available at the reception. However, Tap water is topnotch also. Things to note: 1. They have two buildings with reception only in one. For anything, you might have to go to the reception across the road. 2. Chill out room is crammed and not a great place to socialize with other guests. 3. Although there was a mention of Events, there was no notice board to display the events. 4. The staff is friendly and they are super helpful if you need anything. Overall a great hostel and definitely recommended to other guests”
“Stayed there, In February, before heading back to Ukraine. Marilyn the manager, was very helpful, Kind and kept the place sparkling really great place to go. They have fantastic prices, nice rooms all great at the Matrix. The showers were great, laundry service very professional place up to high Standard of comfort and cleanliness. 5/5 Stars”
“Very welcoming and staff and service were outstanding. Food in the bar was also one of the best I've had in a hostel. For the price couldn't really ask for any more!”
“Stayed in a private room which honestly was great. Reception very helpful when I arrived very early. The room was good and bed was comfy. Bathroom was good. Yes lots of noise from the alleyway outside but just wear ear plugs. Couldn't get much better for a location. And the price couldn't get much better at this time of year. Thanks!”
“I really liked staying here on my trip. Everything I wanted to see was walking distance. The rooms was nice and clean and I liked that each bed had curtains and own light. I was staying in a 18 people room, and everyone was nice and respectful. Living on the fourth floor I was thankful for the elevator, as the walking in Edinburgh had my legs feeling very tired when I got home in the evening. The staff was so sweet and helpful, whenever I had questions. :)”
