You shouls choose this hostel, if you prefer a quaint vibe. I liked almost everything about this hostel. The staff were very welcoming and efficient whenever requested for a service. The rooms were clean. The location of the hostel is the best part. Just a minute walk to the Princes street and Leith street, and 5 min walk to the Christmas market. The shower and the washrooms area could be bit crampy, especially for a big or tall person. I'd hope better options for breakfast than just toast and cereals tbh. Having said that, I was very happy with my stay, and will recommend for solo travelers to Edinburgh.

I stayed in a 6 person room, everything is clean and well constructed, a locker is available for your kit and locks are rentable for Β£3 if you forget yours. Facilities are everything you could need and the kitchen is well equipped if you want to do some cooking Staff are super friendly, always give any new arrivals a nice greeting/walk around and can't do enough to help with any issues! For a hostel, it's everything you can ask for and a greet price and location! Will definitely be back next time I'm in the city

Liked Β· We went there for a night. The experience was very good since we didn't really use the toilets repeatedly. Beds were extremely comfortable and clean and room was cosy. Staff was friendly and cooperative. Disliked Β· The toilet/shower area could have been bigger. The doors of the stalls were colliding with each other. The washbasins were tucked in a slanted corner, which did not leave much room to use those.

I had a very bad experience in this hotel. The room was already not properly clean when I arrived, but what happened after is even worse. While I was still inside the room, the cleaner came in and started spraying a strong chemical product everywhere without warning. I asked him to stop immediately because the smell was too strong and I was coughing. He looked at me and said no, and even added that I should not be here. That was extremely disrespectful, shocking, and humiliating. I felt unsafe, disrespected, and forced to leave my own room because of the chemicals. No professionalism, no basic human respect, and no apology. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior for any hotel. I am very disappointed and I would never recommend this place to anyone.I had a very bad experience in this hotel. The location is the best thing about this extremely pokey hostel. The entire bathroom amenities for upwards of 40 people, consists of 3 toilets, 2 hand basins (in an extremely cramped space) and 4 showers. 1 shower had no hot water another a broken door. Need to climb a steep set of stairs from street level to access the hostel. Not a hostel for people with a disability. The one set of stairs are the only access. You’d be lucky to get out if there was an emergency. Fire springs to mind and the thought made me uneasy. Cramming as many people as possible into a confined space feels like a money grab. The website is very sleek and pretty. It has well photographed images. Unfortunately the reality is quite different. Rooms are cramped with triple bunks and the room was stifling and stuffy. A light and electrical outlet in the bunk was a bonus. Communal kitchen small but functional. I missed breakfast which is included so can’t comment on that. I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Slept poorly due to street noise and poor ventilation. Overall a very disappointing experience one I won’t be repeating. Hard to recommend.

My reservation at The Baxter was cancelled β€œdue to an error in the system” just two days before I arrived. Unfortunately I didn’t catch it in my email, arrived late at night and was told my reservation was cancelled and there were no more rooms available. MAKE SURE YOUR RESERVATION IS VALID BECAUSE IT COULD RANDOMLY GET CANCELLED.

Horrible. The only star is for the location. Beds without clean sheets and they were torn. the bathroom is mixed and incredibly uncomfortable. all completely unhygienic. You have to wash everything you use for breakfast and there were things that were not washed properly, that is, there is no one cleaning the hostel. It is also insecure. When we wanted to check out there was no one at the reception and it was closed. After knocking several times, the receptionist who was sleeping opened the door for us. I honestly do not recommend it, you can pay a little more for something much better.

The location is amazing. The service was really good as well. 2 toilets for all the people is not enough. Excellent breakfast but you have to do the eggs and the stuffs. Anyway, good value for money.

I loved this place. It was clean, and the staff was amazing. The location is perfect, everything is in walking distance. I was in the female dorm, it was comfortable. There were six beds and plenty of space to put our stuff.

absolutely grim place. only had one working toilet and two showers (with no hot water) for the ENTIRE HOSTEL. no staff around in the night to check in late arrivals, and key cards didn’t work properly so also got temporarily locked out one night. avoid.
