Stayed as part of a stag package. We were given tiny rooms for 6 people with 2 x triple decker bunk beds that had no proper space between the beds. Also a lot of construction and renovation underway at the time. The shower was excellent, the receptionist/barman was helpful and the location is very close to Haymarket. This is really just a place to sleep as there's better bars within walking distance.

Negative experience here, truely disappointed in the room space. As 3 20yr old young girls sharing rooms with multiple older men we found it very uncomfortable and unsafe to the point we booked other accommodation. Got charged twice, and left it up to us to figure out although mistake was made on their end. Rooms were also very high temperatures making it impossible to sleep comfortably with appropriate clothing.

Decent 2 nights stay. Rooms with 6 people are good. But they do have other rooms with 9 people and with single toilet. Those are not advisable. Staff are really helpful except the manager. Avoid weekends if you want a peaceful stay as Edinburgh stays gets expensive and cramped. Amenities are fine. Would recommend for short budget friendly stays.

Iโ€™ll start with the good. The staff was very kind, helpful and available. The location was as good as youโ€™re gonna get for the price. The walk downtown is 20-25 full minutes (no less). It was super convenient to get to and from the airport. Affordable breakfast and laundry. Also, the beds were comfy, had chargers in them (mixed gender dorms). I slept extremely well. There was absolutely nowhere to put anything in the room (such as wall hooks, shelves, tables), so everyone was piling their things up on chairs (not enough chairs for the number of people). Secondly, since there was no mat in the bathroom, it was extremely wet after 6 people showered in there. Again, there was no where to place an item on a shelf while you brushed your teeth. There were vanity rooms in the hostel, but the one on our floor was out of service. The bathrooms were a little gross. I know itโ€™s the fringe and lots is going on. Iโ€™m sure the staff is doing their best. Also, the luggage โ€œstorageโ€ was a pile in the corner of the bar. We needed some kind of locker situation to store things.

In response to review saying bar and kitchen closes at 9pm. RUBBISH ! They close at 11. The bar closes at midnight Friday and Saturdays. The place is spotless. Certain individuals do overcrowd the kitchen. But that is dealt with quickly. The staff are super friendly and easy to talk to. There is a full range of cutlery and crockery. All in all, the West End Hotel is well worth it.

I picked a mixed room with 6 bunk beds. I arrived quite late and it was very cramped. I had a middle bed left but very not practical to get into the bed when everyone is sleeping. Unfortunately the people that I slept with in the same room were not very hygienic... But that's what you get for a 27ยฃ shared room. It's convenient as it's in the city if you want to go out. But If you like your personal comfort please forget it. It's a hostel. PS: Bed is comfortable just remember to bring earplug.

Very welcoming and staff and service were outstanding. Food in the bar was also one of the best I've had in a hostel. For the price couldn't really ask for any more!

Fairly clean and well-maintained hostel. A bit off the path, which makes for a quieter stay despite having to walk a bit to get to, but still convenient to the tram, train and buses. One downside is the bar and community kitchen both close around 9 and don't open again until the morning - don't know if that's a staffing issue or what, so plan accordingly. Overall, one of the best hostel stays I've ever had.
