We stayed here in winter and were assigned Room 44, a top-floor room with three exterior walls, gaps around the windows, and inadequate curtains. The room was extremely cold, and we later learned from reception that heating is intentionally turned off during the day as a property policy. They care a lot about the environment but couldnβt care less about the paying guests health and wellbeing. Who turns off the heater and lets people suffer mid winter? The heater in our room and the common lounge were both cold. We were already unwell and reported this immediately. The only solution offered was a single/twin duvet for a double room and verbal assurances that heating would be turned on later. No space heater was provided. Despite being asked to revisit the issue in the morning, staff entered our room without consent, more than once. The room never warmed properly overnight, and both of us woke repeatedly due to the cold. Our symptoms worsened, and we lost our entire first day in Edinburgh due to illness. The following day, the heater was cold again. The property refused to put anything in writing to Booking.com, ignored repeated contact attempts, and only responded much later stating simply that the heater was on without addressing the ongoing issues. When we attempted to clarify our refund before leaving, staff were dismissive. A male staff member spoke to us aggressively and behaved rowdy in front of other guests and stated that our booking had been cancelled without prior notice. The police were called to threaten us, though they did not attend as we have not done anything wrong. At no point did any staff member apologize or show empathy. Communication was often pushed to WhatsApp rather than the booking platform, limiting transparency. We were sick, paying guests seeking a basic, reasonable resolution. Instead, we experienced cold conditions, privacy breaches, and unprofessional conduct. We would not recommend this property, particularly during winter.

Although I have travelled a lot, this was my very first time staying in a hostel β and Princess Street Hostel in Edinburgh truly amazed me. Everything is spotless, cleaner than many 5-star hotels Iβve stayed in. The bathrooms and showers are modern, fresh and shining, the kitchen is fantastic, and the common areas are huge and welcoming. You can immediately feel that the host genuinely loves and takes care of this place β every detail is thoughtful and full of heart. The staff are wonderful, always helpful and smiling, creating a warm atmosphere where you instantly feel at home. Guests are of all ages, and as a 50+ traveller I can say it felt comfortable, safe and simply joyful. Itβs true that there are quite a few stairs up to the reception β but the reward is worth it: from my room I had an unexpected sea view! And thanks to being higher up, you donβt hear the noise of Edinburghβs nightlife at all. A fantastic experience β without doubt a full 5 stars!

Stayed for 3 nights. Service is excellent. Staff were pretty much always available. The rooms are a lot smaller than I thought, and the decor leaves a bit to be desired; then again, it IS a hostel, so not too much to value there. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly. Common room was decent enough; sorta wish they did something or at least paint the walls. The kitchen is functional and open. My biggest complaint, and I wish I had learned about this earlier (and in their defense, it IS stated on their website, I just missed it): the location isn't the best... The entrance to the hostel is very sketchy. The business is located three stories (no elevator access). Worst of all, it is located above a pub. LOUD is an understatement. It's a good thing I travel with earplugs, because I'm unsure how other people can manage to sleep otherwise. With all that said, I WOULD stay here again (on a budget).

Lovely hostel right in the City Centre! I had a lovely stay at this hostel, it was my first time visiting Edinburgh and firstly the location was perfect for anyone wanting to explore. It was just off the Main Street, and opposite the train station, and within easy walking distance of the castle, and the royal mile. The facilities were brilliant ; the showers were very clean, and hot (they looked newly renovated!). The shared facilities were lovely, with lots of space and ideas of things to do in the city & the kitchen had lots of space, plenty of things available to use like pots, pans and utensils - it was very clean and tidy! The staff were kind, friendly and helpful. The hostel felt very safe, and secure - my room had plenty of space for me to store my belongings and a good locker. Iβd definitely stay here again, if I ever return to Edinburgh!

Really great place. Really clean, toilets and showers are cleaned regularly and the bins in the rooms are changed everyday. The rooms are tidy and clean as well and the kitchen is well equipped and big. Only thing I would say is that it was really cold at night. The staff were really nice and helpful and the location was amazing. Would definitely stay again

The location, friendliness of the staff and simple amenities that I was aware of ahead of time would have led me to give this a 5-star rating. However, on one of the days the showers had no hot water. It wasn't temporary as I vaguely heard someone mention it in the hallway, experienced it a couple hours later and then received a text from my partner after that. Things happen but a message acknowledging this from the staff would have been nice so I could have planned accordingly. On the same day our key card stopped working and my partner was locked out of our room for 10 minutes. I'd also recommend adding some wall hooks to the room we stayed in. There was plenty of room to the left of the sink and it would have been nice to hand our towels up to dry.

The location is amazing. When I arrived, I was placed in a room with only men. Without even me asking, the very nice gentleman at the reception ( i unfortunately donβt know is name) offered me to change my room for a women only one. That was very appreciated. The kitchen is a great size. Plenty of toilets and showers, never had to queue. The wifi connection is very good. The only problems was with the beds and the communal area. My mattress was very uncomfortable. Iβm usually not a picky sleeper but you could feel every spring. Personally, i found the communal room a little bit small. It was always full. Sometimes it was hard to find a place to eat
