I came here for a writing retreat for 1. I wanted to get away from the distractions and close to great scenery for in-between-writing-walks and I knew this was the place. With the hills as a background for the laptop, I got so much done in one week. I loved the peace and quiet of the place, the cosiness of the fireplace in the dining room and the use of the kitchen. The internet connection is very fast, which made doing research very easy. I highlight recommend this to anyone who loves writing, and to anyone wanting to get stuff done in general.

We had a brilliant time! Tom was quick to respond to emails beforehand, and very welcoming. The hostel itself was a lovely space with great atmosphere (including record player, pool table and lots of twinkly lights). Thank you very much! - Everyone at the Edinburgh University Folk Society

This is a wonderful hostel, a real gem. I was running late on my bike tour and phoned ahead; this was absolutely no problem for them and I was warmly welcomed even when I arrived at almost 10pm. The building is great and the collection of LPs in the dining room (which you are encouraged to play) was fantastic - it would be worth going to stay for a few days just to play vinyl. Safe bike storage, a good kitchen and also a good breakfast (which I had pre-ordered) - Hope to return soon and explore more of the beautiful borders. 5 stars all the way, only given a 4 for location because it is a little walk out of the town, but this is no problem on a bike. Thanks.

We walked in with no booking and were immediately welcomed. The atmosphere created by the lovely owner made us feel so at home, his fantastic record collection which we had easy and free access to, the pool table, copious amounts of games, warm vintage feel lounge room made our stay so memorable. Our room was beautiful, the customer service was impeccable couldnβt recommend anymore. We were given amazing local adventure recommendations that exceeded our expectations absolutely our favourite hostel yet!

We had a great stay at this hostel. Tom was a very welcoming host, and there were some lovely personal touches with the decor, especially in the bedrooms and kitchen. The kitchen was clean and well-equipped. The location is convenient, just a short drive into town, and the communal living room with the record player was a nice bonus. Overall, a very pleasant experience. We will definitely stop over on our next trip to the north West of Scotland.

What a treat, staying with Tom and his family at Bridge House. It's more a luxurious country house than hostel. I spent hours curled up in the leather chairs in the formal games room. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Such a lovely hostel with friendly hosts. Brilliant facilities, clean rooms and lots of character in the place. Couldnβt fault it! And a great location to stop at on the way up or the way down to/from the highlands. Thereβs also a lot to do in the local area that you might not know about, and Tom has some great recommendations :) Iβve stayed here twice now and will definitely be back in the future

Great people, great place, great location! Scrupulously clean and a homely and safe environment to relax with children. We didn't know much about the area when we arrived, but Tom introduced us to the area and we had a great time exploring the nearby lochs. Mares tail waterfall is especially beautiful and there are some lovely places to eat in walking distance.

Although I booked a budget room, it was of a high standard. It looked like it had just been refurbished. Spotless ensuite bathroom with electric power shower, toilet and basin. The room had accessible 13 amp sockets, a window that opened with a new blind. The beds had comfy firm mattresses. There was a stand for clothes, a chair and an under bed storage drawer. Tom, the host, was very friendly and accommodating. The shared kitchen looked refurbished as well with a guest fridge and dishwasher. Free tea and coffee. You could buy an evening meal and a 'prepare yourself' breakfast and some sundries. You could hire some hill equipment such as rucksacks, ice axes. This would be a good base to explore the local countryside. The hostel is about 15 min walk from the main high street and has ample free parking in the hostel grounds.
