Okay so, first, I could only give 3 stars because I barely slept as the beds and mattresses are terrible and have been since we visited 3 years ago. I understand they are beginning to give the rooms a fresh makeover so hopefully that will include the beds and mattresses. As for customer service, I give Melvish and the all the staff a 10 out of 10. They were all so kind and helpful. We love staying here because we love Old Town.

I don’t usually write reviews, but my stay at Hotel Edinburgh was so disappointing and concerning that I feel the need to share. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Room Condition & Hygiene The room was very old and poorly maintained. The furniture looked decades out of date, the walls were worn, and there was a general feeling of neglect. Hygiene was a big issue—the bedding didn’t feel clean or comfortable, the air smelled stale, and the bathroom had clearly not been properly cleaned. The bathroom doors were very hard to open and close, and they didn’t lock properly, which was both inconvenient and unsettling. Safety & Security Concerns One of the biggest red flags was the lack of safety. The locks on the room doors didn’t work correctly—sometimes even when you locked the door, it would still open. That meant there was essentially no security for guests staying there. On top of that, the elevator was supposed to require scanning a room key card for access, but in reality it didn’t enforce this at all. Anyone could get in and go up without restriction, which completely defeated the purpose of having a security measure in the first place. As a guest, it made me feel very unsafe. Service & Management There was no help available for basic things like carrying luggage. The manager’s attitude was also extremely unprofessional and rude. When concerns were raised, instead of trying to resolve them, management dismissed them with indifference. It felt like they had no interest in guest satisfaction or even basic hospitality. (exempting the two working on desk wednesday afternoon ) Breakfast & Extra Charges The breakfast was very limited, with barely any options, and what was available felt cheap and unappealing. On top of that, the hotel seemed to charge extra for almost everything. Instead of being welcoming, it felt like they were trying to squeeze every last cent out of guests. Overall Experience From the unsafe locks and broken security measures, to the dirty, outdated room and dismissive management, everything about this stay was negative. It’s not just a matter of comfort—it’s also a matter of guest safety, which this hotel clearly does not take seriously. I would strongly recommend avoiding Hotel Edinburgh. There are far better options in the city where you’ll at least feel safe, respected, and looked

This Residence Inn will forever be in our memory as a place run by dedicated and honest people. Maria runs this place with great leadership. One incident really stood out: We lost a pink water bottle of sentimental value (strongly suspecting it was in the hotel) and didn’t realize it until we were out of town. We contacted the hotel and explained to Maria the situation. She promptly looked into it, contacting the housekeeper immediately and got back to us right away. The housekeeper confirmed that she found it. We asked if the bottle could be shipped to us, and Maria was so helpful giving us all the information we needed to arrange for a shipping company to pick it up from the hotel, etc. We got it in the same great condition it was at when it was lost and couldn’t be happier. Maria’s can-do energy is so refreshing and much appreciated. Maria, thank you for welcoming us when we arrived, for taking the time to explain the hotel details, and for taking immediate action to solve the problem we presented to you after we left. Also, please thank the housekeeper for her conscientiousness, for her honesty, and for her politeness to us when we interacted with her during our stay. We wish you all the best and hope to see you next time we’re in Edinburgh!

excellent location, not far from the royal mile, international breakfast was good. The rooms getting a bit old, the bath is quit tiny and the sink is outside of the bath… not really that what I want, thin walls between the rooms so you can here your neighbours all the time. Staffing was really sincerely friendly. For a short trip to Edinburgh I would come again.

The hotel is very bad!! 1,The small lobby share space of breakfast area. 2,laundry machines are gross! 3, the food of breakfast are not fresh. 4, the stupid toilet flush button is on the back of toilet lid, you have to close the lid then push the button to flush. 5, the closest is very narrow, 6, quilts and pillows are not fresh fell. Definitely not recommend this hotel!

I don’t know how this hotel got this many stars. I’m staying here now and didn’t realize it isn’t air conditioned. The window opens maybe 3 inches. There is zero counter space in the bathroom and the toilet feels like it’s going to fall off the wall when sat on. There are gaps in the joints of the wood floor. The bed has one mattress sheet and the duvet. No top sheet. I certainly don’t need a duvet with no air conditioning. I’m paying almost $1,000 for 2 rooms for 2 nights. Entirely too much for what is offered.

The hotel is nice and clean and in an excellent location but be forewarned that the rooms are quite warm in summertime. I fully understand and expect that when traveling in this part of the world A/C is a rarity, however the issue with this hotel is a lack of ventilation. The windows only open a small sliver and you’re left with the provided table fans to circulate the warm air. Several nights the temperatures outside were absolutely perfect (low to mid 60’s F) but the room itself was still an absolute sauna. If they’d invest in better windows that open wide I’d give this property 5 Stars without hesitation.

Staff were accommodating, room was spacious, breakfast was good. The free self-service laundry was a nice touch as well. We really enjoyed the location, close enough to walk to attractions and dining, but on an out of the way dead-end street so as not to be noisy and busy. It was also nice to see how new construction buildings like these are melded into the historic building surrounding. Quick access to a jogging/walking/biking path.
