Went for Christmas dinner - food was nice, staff were attentive, and the hotel looks nice. Downside they had paid for a girl to sing while everyone was eating - she had a nice voice and the background music was nice, but it was too loud and honestly quite annoying (had to shout over it to be heard). Would have been better if they had just had a tape of Christmas music playing (quietly) in the background.

Thank you today for the most amazing Santa's breakfast. Food was delicious. Entertainment was spot on. Lady who organised it was amazing. Wish I had half her energy. Santa was magical and thenpresents were spot on. Children loved it as did adults.

First visit was in Oct, was gifted a spa voucher and have been again today using a groupon deal which included an afternoon tea. This place is absolutely amazing. The staff at the spa are the most helpful, knowledgeable and friendly team I’ve ever come across in hospitality, massive shout out to Robyn on reception who recognised us from our first visit, she’s an angel. All the therapists know their stuff and put you at ease. My daughter and I will be making it a monthly occurrence. Thank you all so much.

Wedding coordination (the lack of) • hardly any communication from the wedding coordinator in the week leading up to the wedding • turning up on the wedding day to find out the wedding coordinator does not work weekends(!!). This was a Saturday wedding. • no coordinator meant that the guests were not directed around the venue appropriately causing them to be hanging around or not in the right place at the right time. • staff (the manager) standing staring at the ribbon covering the bottom of the aisle that was not removed for the bridal party walking in. The bridesmaids and bride had to cut into the aisle from the side in order to walk up it. Important photographs of the bride walking down the aisle with her father have been ruined due to this. • guests having to ask the photographer to remove the ribbon for the happy couple going back down the aisle. Again the hotel staff did not care about it to get rid of it. • the aisle runner was not flat and not appropriately taped down which cause many guests to trip over it. Thankfully not resulting in a full fall but if not fixed that will happen. • the photographer had to take on the job of directing the guests about when the bridal party were getting their official photographs done. • there was only one member of staff behind the bar in the main lounge which meant the queue to get a drink was extremely long and took a long time to get through. Roughly 45 mins to an hour to get served. • the sound system in the function suite for the speeches at dinner needs either refurbished or fixed as each person could not be understood very well. Each person was muffled and too quiet. This is definitely a sound system issue rather than a diction problem of the speakers. • guests did not know when they were to leave the function suite for the turnaround after dinner for the evening reception. This job was taken on by the MOH to instruct everyone to head out of the room. • the carpet covering the dance floor was curling up on the bottom left corner which caused many to trip, again another safety hazard. • not one member of staff was looking after the bride and groom. They were not handed celebratory drinks or approached once to ensure everything was okay. • the taps in the function suite bar were not working due to an issue with the gas. Instead of charging those who wanted a draft pint the price of it, they were needing to buy the more expensive bottles. More care about taking people’s money than providing adequate service. • with only one member of staff behind the bar in the function suite meaning the queue was endless for the bar. •They also ran out of glasses because no one was tidying up and having them cleaned. Instead of managing to get a pint of water, I had 4 small glasses given to me. • not one member of staff turned the lights off for the happy couple’s first dance. Meaning their photos have the wrong lighting. The lights were eventually turned off during the second song which played. • we witnessed arguments between reception staff and and guests for cancelling room bookings. Rooms had been messed up on their side but there was no where to put people because of the hotel being fully booked. If you expect the hotel to be apologetic for cancelling your room expect excessive eye rolling instead. And don’t expect your money back for having your room given to someone else. Through these altercations, the bride was also involved, on her wedding day, trying to sort out the problems for her guests which is not acceptable. • basic things that should’ve been perfect for this couple were left in a state of carnage. The staff left the cake cutting table and stacks of chairs in front of photo backdrops so no one could use them. •Think you’ll get the cake stand you were told you’d get? WRONG. that’ll be forgotten about and they’ll say it was never meant to be there. • not one member of staff informed the couple or the dj that the evening buffet was in fact ready. A guest walked past seeing it was there and then the dj was informed to tell all the guests.

Lovely building and the reception area was decorated well for Christmas. Check in was straightforward and easy and the staff friendly. Our room was spacious and clean and had a good supply of tea coffee and milk. The room did need some TLC. The wallpaper was stained and torn in places and the extractor in the bathroom was loose and sounded like a plane taking off. Our room was cold but there was a heater which helped a bit. Breakfast was great; a good supply of buffet items which were delicious. Bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, beans, potato scone and also a selection of fruit and continental breakfast items. We used the pool and steam room which were great. One issue were the lockers. They're operated by individually issued wristbands. Mine wouldn't open my locker but a fellow resident managed to open mine with theirs! Not great security. Overall we had a great stay and got a good deal on it. Just a bit of TLC would make it perfect.

Overnight spa break for 2 started with waiting very long at reception to be checked in as the hotel is severely understaffed, followed by discovering that the window in our "deluxe room" is broken, basically had to sleep with an open window while there was an awful storm outside; sink in the bathroom was jammed and unusable, had to brush teeth etc over the bathtub; neither of the staff actually showed any interest in helping get these issues resolved; the spa is very dated, hasn't been cleaned in a long time, visible cracks etc on the ceiling definitely not luxurious or any remotely fancy. The facilities and bar area are very very non hygienic!!! Dinner was the most pleasant experience of our stay, lovely food, however again pretty understaffed 2 people were serving and hosting all guests. Just don't book it for overnight spa especially, as the price of the packages is far too high for what you actually get for your money.

Stayed for four nights at beginning of November. Staff all very helpful and pleasant; all areas of the hotel were spotlessly clean; room was spacious with very comfortable double bed and bathroom had bath and shower over, both of which had very good water pressure. The room was cleaned every day, and the cleaning was done properly, not just making up the bed. Breakfast was excellent (better midweek than weekend). As we were visiting family we did not eat in the hotel after breakfast except one day we had soup and sandwich which was perfect for what we wanted. The hotel was not at all busy so the catering was very impressive for the two of us. The spa is lovely, good pool, well regulated steam room and sauna. Grounds are lovely. We couldnt find fault with anything and would definitely stay again in the future.

My friend and I booked the spa & lunch as a little relaxing treat before us nurse go back out on placement and it was exactly that… chilled and relaxed. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful, literally nothing was too much bother for them. The facilities were clean and inviting. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a little me time…
