21/11/25 Update dropped 2 more stars For the second time we found the place was closed during the day for an event. They marketed a special offer on facebook, but couldn't be bothered to add a post that the place was closed today. I already alluded to the fact the quality of the food is a lottery, now adding that it being opened is a lottery unless you have second sight. Ah well off to Garvey's in Milngavie for lunch, probably was the best thing to do from the start. Original post Been there a few times over the year, the quality of the food is variable. The mussel starters were amazing, the overpriced basic burger was just that, the accompanying fries were over-cooked brown and dry. They were mostly left uneaten. The seabass risotto was a tale of two sides. A great risotto and a meagre bass. the bass however didn't have two sides, just the one veeeeerrrrrrry small side. To insult they added injury - it had broken in 1/2 but was still PLONKED on top of the rice. Hmmmm. Previous visits the risotto was fine as was the fish and chips, so I won't give this place one/two star, if had been a first visit . The limited choice of beers (Dark and best bitter) always tastes a bit odd, so avoid. Stick with bottle or lager. Well it's the only place nearby so enjoy if you are staying, but stick to mussels and fish and chips or get a tarot reading if you try something else. Value for money? Nah....

Poor standard needs a refurbishment asap. Room has no ventilation or extraction fan in bathroom. Mildew/ mould in shower . Windows broken . Doors noisy difficult to close properly. Breakfast expensive Β£17.50 each. Bed not the most comfortable.

Friendly, helpful staff. Good location. Good parking. Large well furnished rooms. Downside, it is also the local pub so it is noisy late into the night. Friday was worst. Also public bar opens onto the restaurant so not pleasant for an evening meal. The Italian restaurant though is pleasant and would recommend.

Stayed for two nights - wish I hadn’t. The room was NOT clean, I found hairs all over the bathroom. The room is and very dated and the bed was just awful. No heating to speak of and no ventilation except for a small bathroom window. Speaking of the bathroom, the water flow was so weak it was impossible to fill the tub before the water turned cold. The cold and hot taps were also reversed. The TV worked, but it used an old-fashioned aerial antenna, so the picture quality was very poor. The walls were thin - I could hear people talking next door, taking a shower and the dog two rooms down the hall. The desk was tiny, so I had to work on my laptop either on the bed or in the lounge/bar area. Breakfast doesn’t start until 8 am, so there’s no point in getting up early. All in all, it’s a hotel that clearly peaked in the 1980s and never bothered to modernise. On the bright side, the staff were friendly and welcoming. I didn’t stay for dinner. Edit: I found a fan and a heater in the back of the room, so technically there is a possibility of ventilation and heating.

Had Sunday dinner there after a walk up Dumgoyne. Fantastic. The staff really went out of their way for us and the food was Brill. Loved it. Thank you!

Excellent choice on Christmas menu. Bread puddin amazing. Reasonably priced and very attentive service. Can't understand why it isn't more frequented. On your doorstep if you live in the village.

Stayed for a night , very good place , had excellent food , liked the beer battered fish and chips and chicken Milanese . The portions were quite generous, . Onion rings was good , we ordered breakfast for 12Β£ per person , hash brown is really tasty . The staff are really nice . The closest town is milngavie , where you have a high street and petrol station and bank of Scotland and the regular high street shops . It’s about 5-10 minutes drive . Overall it was a good experience.
