   We came across this beautiful pub completely by chance. We were staying in the Travelodge near by and just looking for something for dinner. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a warm and welcoming Christmasy atmosphere. Nice and cosy and you could still smell the remnants of the fire in the corner. If I lived local, I would definitely have my name on seat next to that fire. We were welcomed in by Hannah, with a big genuine smile and made us feel right at home, straight away. The whole place is set out for Christmas beautifully, nothing tacky or too much, just the right amount to create the desired effect. We were then made even more comfortable by Rachel who took our orders and allowed us plenty of time to look through the menu. They both took time to chat with us, which was really nice. The menu is brilliant, a nice variety of meals to appeal to anyone’s tastes and you can see just how much thought has gone in to this. I had the cider and vegetable soup of the day for a starter which was just incredible, and I even pinched some of my wife’s nice cheesy nachos. For our mains I had the steak and ale pie with mashed potatoes and veg and my wife had the gammon and chips. The pie was homemade and one of the nicest pies I’ve had for a very long time. They know how to make a goood gravy! Delicious! My wife’s gammon was huge and I even managed to pinch a little bit of this too. The quality of food here just highlights what a hidden gem this pub is. You can see the level of care in everything they do and I actually feel like driving all the way to Bristol again, just to have my dinner there. I had a local bitter which, again, was delicious. If you are reading this I definitely recommend a visit. It is beyond great value for money and one of the best pub dining experiences we have had for a long time. Thank you so much to Hannah and Rachel for taking the time to chat with us and for just being fantastic and of course thank you to the amazing chef who knows just how to please a belly and make a hungry northerner very, very happy. We will definitely be back.

   Had a fantastic meal here on a Friday lunchtime, the pub was busy but service was very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. Good variety on the menu and the atmosphere is lovely. Staff were excellent and very friendly- what else could you ask for. Highly recommended

   A perfect gem of proper family run pub in the countryside. This is my second visit. One was in the summer for drinks after work. There was a lovely garden with stuff for kids, an ice cream stall and a proper friendly atmosphere. My second visit was yesterday for a quick lunch with two work colleagues to celebrate one having her birthday which I only mentioned in passing when making the booking. We arrived to find balloons on the table and they identified the birthday girl and made a proper fuss of her. The food was great: big portions cooked really well and presented prettily. Even little touches like the sauce packets all neat and tidy in a box on the table. The loos were clean and well decorated and there was a roaring fire behind us. We were so full, we couldn’t manage dessert so the staff bought out a piece of cake in Tupperware as a parting gift and sang happy birthday to my friend. I’d also bought my dog who was offered water and treats by the waitress. There is nothing I could fault with the Boar so I’ll definitely be coming back. Thank you ❤️

   Have been going here regularly since moving to the area, never had a bad experience. Staff super friendly and welcoming, Pub is dog friendly. Food has always been fantastic and great value for money. Can't fault it!

   Brilliant pub. Kudos all round. Owners are so welcoming and friendly, puts their customers first. Free camping in the beer garden - second time here camping and can't recommend it enough. Spuds are smashing, and the cheesy chips are epic. Just go here!

   Visited for the first time in a number of years. My goodness what a change! We were warmly welcomed as we came through the door and there was such a lovely friendly atmosphere. Our dog Charlie was also welcomed and fussed over, this is a very dog friendly pub. The owners Rich & Rich are great hosts. We will definitely be back again soon :-)

   What a great place, Richard and Rich are great hosts and as the pictures show you super feed that is well presented. Tables aren’t on top of each other. A historic pub in all senses, beer is well kept and the wine chilled just right. Look out for the bingo bus.

   We stayed overnight with our motorhome and we were made very welcome the food and drink was outstanding, we can recommend the fish and chips. Also all the staff are very friendly and helpful, definitely worth a visit. Len and kim wales.
