Minimalist design at a maximalist price. At GBP 300 per night i found it way overpriced. This is absolutely luxury hotel pricing in Edinburgh (and most places, actually). I don’t usually say anything, but here I was disappointed given the price. It’s a nicely done space but you do need to offer another experience if you roll at this £ level. Reconsider the bed too, is my other feedback.

Our favourite spot in Edinburgh! We had an amazing experience at Porteous Studio, both the interiors, location, Aesop toiletries, bedding, the bed (oh my… the bed) and of course Jack and Eilidh who were very attentive and went the extra mile when needed. We also received a lovely Vegan breakfast selection as requested. The location is the perfect spot for minimalist lovers who enjoy a quiet, clean, cozy space in the centre of Edinburgh. We were worried the tiles on the floors were gonna make the place feel cold, but to our surprise we soon realised there is underfloor heating across the studio making it a pleasure to walk around. Everything was provided to us, from designer kitchen tools, a handmade cast-iron Japanese kettle and Aesop toiletries. The linen towels and bedding were also great. Overall we had an amazing experience and we will be back soon. Thank you to Jack and Eilidh!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lovely Porteous' Studio. Conveniently located in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, this warm, thoughtfully designed studio was the perfect base for us to explore the city from. The beautiful use of materials, bespoke furniture and great attention to detail made the studio a very welcoming and comfortable place to spend time in (rather than just a place to sleep). The wonderful breakfast items provided by Eilidh and Jack, the lovely and helpful hosts, were a very thoughtful extra treat. We look forward to returning to this wonderful retreat, next time we visit the city!

Excellent location, walking distance to everywhere we wanted to visit. Extremely clean and loved how minimal and modern the apartment was. Fresh breakfast left for us. Really enjoyed our stay overall, just wish we had booked an extra night there!

This place is beautifully done but we were disappointed with our overall stay. There were no instructions for our arrival which left us stood around trying to get hold of the owner to get the key. When we did, it turned out it was just in a key safe outside the front door which would have been easy to communicate prior to our arrival. There was no breakfast hamper as promised on the site, instead we were told to go to a cafe down the road and would be reimbursed which we were fine with. However, when we arrived at the cafe, it was closed for renovation for our whole stay. I'd have definitely overlooked these hiccups, however I was extremely disappointed to have had no response from the owner after emailing them over a month ago.

It’s so easy to stay in a generic location at this price, a faceless chain where the experience meets the same stamped-out expectations gained elsewhere. Spend about the same and it’s possible to stay somewhere different and, in the case of Porteous’ Studio, it’s supporting the creative talent of two young architects. Keen to experience work which has had a lot of critical acclaim, a stay for a couple of nights enabled me to enjoy at first hand the care and detail. Carefully sourced and hand-crafted furniture and detail make this stand out from the crowd. Perfectly sized for a few days away, located very centrally off the Grassmarket, the studio was somehow a combination of welcoming and spartan at the same time. There’s no TV and little in the way of other home comforts but that’s missing the point entirely. A quiet retreat in the middle of a city is a clever thing indeed.
