   For birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, and just simply for everyday pleasure, I like to mark the occasion with flowers. Since wandering into Lizzie's shop Barvas and James on Queen Margaret Dr, my floral contributions have moved on to a new level. The bouquets they create are incredibly beautiful. Outstanding floral artistry of the highest order. Heads turn and people make appreciative comments when I'm carrying their flowers on the street. Both Lizzie and John (in the Shawlands shop) are very helpful, knowledgeable, and truly enthusiastic about flowers - I can't recommend them highly enough. Vincent mccluskey

   My favourite shop in Glasgow! it’s cool, dim (very chic feeling!), full of plants, and has a lovely atmosphere. Lizzie and her dad are so kind and helpful. They’re so nice to chat to and always happy to give advice. I went from a total black thumb to having a home full of beautiful, healthy plants. I have also had many fabulous bouquets from here. Everything has been not only beautiful, but also cared for and healthy, so you never have to go home and start trying to revive something immediately, as with a lot of stores. Barvas & James is just a really excellent, high quality experience. I love it so much!

   I cannot speak highly enough of Barvas & James. Wonderfully warm customer service, highly skilled & knowledgeable florists, and a gorgeous selection of flowers, plants and pots. I went in looking for large bouquet of flowers as a congratulations gift, and John put together the most beautiful bouquet I've ever seen. Just stunning. I really appreciated that he took the time to discuss options with me, and made sure I got a bouquet that fit my budget and the intended occasion. The price was very fair and the flowers looked and smelled so wonderful. It also couldn't have taken John more than 10 minutes to put the bouquet together - clearly a master of his craft. Thank you so much again. I will definitely be back. 10/10 would recommend.

   Staff here are just amazing! Communication was fast and efficient and top class. The shop itself is just adorable, a great selection of plants, flowers, candles, cards and gifts. I was in heaven! Bought a few plants to add to my collection and the plants were clean, watered and in great condition… no bugs, disease or signs of lack of care. No one want to bring home a plant that contaminates the others and with this shop that is not a concern. Definitely worth a visit!

   I received the most gorgeous hand tied bouquet of flowers for my birthday, sent by a friend who lives down south. I’m so glad he chose B&J as I’ve used them lots before and always delighted. A modern, wild flower kind of bouquet. Just perfect for my large window. Would highly recommend.

   We ordered our Nordmann Fir from John and despite him working into the wee hours fitting out and preparing the new Southside shop he went out his way to make sure it was with us on the day we planned to put it up, delivering it at 2.30 am that morning. The tree was perfect, looked freshly cut and is no doubt the best real tree we've ever had, the extra effort made it noteworthy experience and I wish him and Nicola all the best in the new shop. Hopefully he's not out delivering on the 24th or he'll be getting in the way of the big man himself! Thanks again. John, Michelle, Freya and Euan.

   Over the last year, between lockdown and wanting to enjoy more local shops, I came across a family-run business called Barvas & James and decided to treat myself to some beautiful flowers while I worked away at home. Their bouquets lift my spirit every time I walk into the room. I soon found out that they do more than plants and flowers, their fruit and veg boxes have fresh, seasonal produce which is overflowing, and always happily devoured. This year's Christmas tree lasted 6 weeks and still looked and smelled as fresh as the first day. When I have a question or want to place an order, they are very communicative and helpful. And when I've been lucky enough to visit the shop, I always have the warmest greeting and manage to come away with extra goodies like candles, chocolates, pottery and jewelry. This is a shop that makes you feel like you're not in the middle of a large city, but will go above and beyond to help fill your home (or the lucky friends & family you might be sending them to) with the most beautiful flowers and plants, lushest fruit & veg boxes, and best extras to boost!
