We absolutely loved our overnight stay and dinner at The Priory! This is real modern luxury without the insane price tag - and right at the heart of the Caer Leon village, too. I review luxe hotels for a living (was a paying guest at this one), and can honestly say it was a wonderful experience. The pork belly was delicious, the service impeccable and our room (the deluxe double) absolutely beautiful. Would come again in a heartbeat.

Dining at The Priory in Caerleon is first and foremost a pleasant experience thanks to its exceptional staff. The service is without fault attentive, kind, and truly focused on making you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. It’s rare to find such genuine attention to detail in hospitality, and this alone leaves a lasting impression. The venue itself feels elegant yet welcoming. The décor carries a refined taste, sober and sophisticated but never cold. It’s a place where you can relax, have a decent conversation, and enjoy a calm atmosphere — more of a classic charm than a flashy display. When it comes to the food, however, that’s where the experience flattens a bit. Each dish was technically correct in both presentation and texture — nothing wrong, but nothing particularly inspiring either. The flavours were balanced but lacked boldness or vitality. The flavours were somewhat plain, missing that spark of creativity, no bright colours, no daring notes of taste, simply safe and neutral cooking. With prices around £50–60 per person, it sits where you’d expect for an establishment of its category, so in that sense, it delivers what the location suggests. Still, for that price range, more personality and flavour would be welcome. Overall, my experience was neither disappointing nor exciting, a flat line on the culinary spectrum. Excellent service and atmosphere, but the food could truly benefit from more energy, imagination, and life.

Fabulous setting with great hospitality. Rooms are really nice and cosy. Sunday lunch was the best we have had anywhere for a long time. Our waiter Felix was professional and attentive with a smile and good humour

The Priory is local to us & we have thought about booking the restaurant for quite some time, but I find it hard to try new places. We were gifted a voucher for the restaurant last Xmas, so last week we finally used it. We booked via the website & added our usual request for quiet area as ASD. I have to say I was apprehensive, but I was very impressed. From the moment we arrived the service was excellent and the staff so friendly. I felt VERY comfortable here, which for a first visit, is high praise indeed! We sat in the panel room, with dark wood panelled walls. As they were quieter on the evening we came, they gave me a choice of table, which I really appreciated! (I would book this table again in the future!) We were looked after by David, & he was great - just the right balance of attentiveness! We chose from the three course set menu and the food was delicious. Hubby had cured smoked duck to start, I had smoked ham hock and jalapeño croquettes - the duck was so tender & the croquettes crispy & melty inside. We both had the pork loin for mains, with triple cooked chips & roasted Jerusalem artichokes to share. Again, we couldn’t fault anything. The pork loin was slightly pink and melted in your mouth, the chips were amazing & the artichokes were gorgeous. A great pairing! Finally we decided on the Orange & Almond cake & the cheese board to finish, which we also shared. Again, perfection! Another point for us is, as real ale drinkers, so often you find that restaurants in hotels skip on the cask ales, but The Priory have their own pale ale as well as one of our favourites - Bath Ales, Gem! Thank you for a lovely evening, our first visit but definitely not our last.

One of the best restaurant experiences I've had in the UK. And not just the food. Ambience, decor, staff attitute and knowledge were first class. Spanish theme executed brilliantly - I understand by the new owner. Cosy wine tasting room particularly atmospheric. Bar and restaurant layout spacious and welcoming. Menu selection and quality, from the impressive open kitchen, deserves a Michelin rating if it continues at this level - get in there now as the prices are a steal. Every staff member highly professional and enthusiastic - going the extra mile to offer sensible advice. Ignore pre 2025 Google reviews - the Priory has new owners.

We booked a table for four. We ordered drinks, then ordered food. We were there for about two hours and no one came to ask if would like more drinks. When the table was eventually cleared we were asked if we would like to see the dessert menu. We said yes, but it never arrived. We had to ask for it. The food was good, but the service could do with some improvement.

What a fabulous stay and dinner we had with you last night. Loving the ample parking and grounds. The welcome was warm and friendly, the room was gorgeous and really liked the outdoor space (and heater). Really impressed with the refillable products in the room and reclaimed furniture. We popped over to the bar and restaurant for tea and once again had a really warm welcome and great service. Bar prices were very reasonable. The meal was superb and really loved the meat & fish counter to select your dinner. Finishing off with liqueur coffees was ideal. Breakfast this morning was completely hassle free with a fabulous choice for the cold buffet and great selection for the cooked. Thank you so much for hosting us, we really enjoyed our mini break away and look forward to returning

Do not go here if you have a vegetarian in your party. Daughter ordered cauliflower and it tasted foul. Plus all meat is and fish were on display. If you like the idea of sitting opposite a deli counter in a supermarket then this is the place for you. An ambience of fish market. You order your food from the counter and not the table. There is very little veg on offer and you pay extra for what little they have. Do go here if you like meat and very little else. Not great if you have any disability as it is an old building and there are ramps that could be tricky for some chairs. For visually impaired - the menu is written on a chalk board and not a paper one on table and it is up high behind the deli counter, written in a fancy, unclear font. The Fish and meat were cooked to perfection. The meal was for a big birthday and had I known what it was like I would not have chosen this place. Maybe great if it was for me a casual night out

Arrived for a one night stay, the girls on reception were very polite. Our room was spotless, and amazing bed and an awesome bathroom. The gardens at the rear are well kept and relaxing too. There is a very good pub across the road and lots of historical places to see too . Well worth a visit.

Dropped in today when visiting the Roman baths and museum. We hadn’t booked but the staff were able to fit us in for Sunday lunch in the bar area (restaurant was full). Lamb Sunday dinner was delicious and just the right amount of food. The veg still had a bit of bite to it and the meat was well cooked and tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would definitely come back.
