We followed the national trust walk for the cliff tops starting from Cufic lane. Stony but steep path and woodland leading along the gorge and then descended down steps to black rock. Crossing the road in the middle of the gorge and back up some incredibly rocky terrain and even more so at the top of that side of the gorge. You can go down Jacob’s ladder for free with this route too! Beautiful views at the top of both sides of the gorge and we managed in trainers on Boxing Day… but if the weather had been wet it would have been much more slippery underfoot! We took our collie but this walk is definitely not suitable for elderly or children it is not an accessible walk by any stretch of the imagination. It’s challenging for a couple of 30 somethings and took around 4 hours for the whole route with some rest breaks/photos etc. Parking was £6 all day in the village, however little local shops felt very over touristy.

An incredible 3-mile rocky loop around Cheddar Gorge which is pretty challenging. It begins with a steep ascent up Jacob's Ladder stairset to the Lookout Tower, and from there you can either go back down or choose to embark on this epic trek. The final part of the loop involves walking down the road through the Gorge, which is OK but a bit dangerous with the amount of speeding cars and motorbikes coming through on the road. It's a bit of a lawless zone.

Very spectacular! It’s a 3 hour path including stops! I would suggest to go up near the entrance of Gough Caves, do all the walk path to black rock, crossing the road and going up the other cliff. Ending to the lookout tower that becomes free once you go down from it. (You’d have to pay 22£ for a day ticket if you want to go up that way and you would have very slippery paths to descend the mountain!).

A lovely walk with great views. Be aware some parts of the pathway are quite rocky

Fantastic walk with astonishing views. Make sure you bring some trekking shoes as the path can get rough and steep. My 6 years old managed to do 1 hour up without much trouble. If you're lucky you will also see come wild goats.

Stunning views. Lovely activity to do with friends or family. Quite steep in come areas, but well worth it.

This is a circular walk around the cliff tops of the Cheddar Gorge. The traditional starting point is a steep climb up a set of steps known as Jacob's Ladder. Once at the higher level above the cliffs , the walk becomes very scenic. It can be fairly steep in some places with rough surfaces but in general it is a walk accessible to anyone of reasonable fitness. Aside from spectacular views the flora and fauna make the excursion worthwhile. This was the first time in the UK for example that I have seen mountain goats freely roaming which I now understand are a feature of the Cheddar Gorge.

Stunning views along the Cliff Top Walk. The path is steep in places with some flights of steps. Well worth the effort, just go prepared with suitable shoes. On a good day you can see for miles.
