I visited Spice of India with my work colleagues for our Christmas celebration. The starters were alright and the atmosphere was genuinely pleasant, so we were off to a good start. However, things changed when our main courses arrived. I ordered Butter Chicken, but when the dishes came out, the chef told us it was “Mumbai Makhni.” We explained that we had ordered Butter Chicken, and he placed the dish aside. Then the manager came over and insisted that what they served was their “red butter chicken.” I explained this didn’t match what the chef had said, but we accepted the manager’s explanation and decided to try it. Unfortunately, the dish tasted nothing like Butter Chicken. Everyone at the table agreed it looked and tasted more like a Chicken Tikka Masala—red in colour and missing the mild sweetness and creamy orange flavour that Butter Chicken is known for. When we shared this feedback, the manager didn’t take it well, raised his voice, and kept insisting we were wrong. We eventually had to ask him to leave our table. To make matters worse, the bill even listed the dish as “Mumbai Tandoori Chicken Makhni,” confirming it wasn’t Butter Chicken at all. We later spoke with the lady owner, who was incredibly kind and understanding. She agreed Butter Chicken should be orange, not red, and reassured us she would speak to the chef. She also kindly offered complimentary shots for everyone at our table, which we really appreciated. Ratings: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the lady owner – warm, professional, and genuinely caring ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the young staff – friendly and attentive ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the chef – honest but a mix-up nonetheless ⭐️ for the manager – unprofessional attitude and poor handling of the situation

We had a private party to celebrate a 21st birthday party and it was lovely. Food was so tasty we had a selection of options; veg and non-veg. All were fresh and flavoursome, even the kids didn’t complain with their meals. Highly recommend the Punjabi chicken curry.

Lovely friendly service today for our family meal. Food was outstanding. So nice to eat at a family run place which has been there for years - they were genuinely so warm and welcoming - especially of the children in our group

What an absolute pleasure it was eating here, we came to syston about 6 months earlier and the place was full so we didn't get a table. Soon as we sat down we were welcomed by our waiter who was hands down the best waiter I've come across, very attentive, knowledgeable, and gave very good recommendations. Food was on point, and for the first time in an India restaurant at the end of the meal we were presented with a dessert menu, my head was fully blown. I asked for an ice-cream in a pot to takeaway, how they packed it was beyond any expectations. They filled a foil bag with ice to keep it cold. Someone will be special enough to be given a gift card, yep you read that right, you can even buy gift cards for this place, how amazing! Will definitely be back soon!

We had heard so much about Spice of India, lived in the area for almost 10 years and finally visited on New Years Eve. Wow, we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is very friendly, the staff are very friendly and the food was simply amazing, we had a slight delay in getting our food but nothing that has put us off going back (which we will be doing). The prices are extremely reasonable given the current climate. Do yourselves a favour and book a table.

Mistakenly ordered from here thinking it was a closer restaurant of the same name. I'm very glad we did, because it was easily the nicest Indian takeaway I've ever had. And that's after it had been sitting in the car for half an hour on the drive back. I'll definitely eat here again, but I might dine in next time lol.

I visited Spice of India for the first time last night and I certainly will be going back! I was very impressed with the food which was beautiful. The garlic and cheesy naan were both very tasty, my lamb main was cooked to perfection, with every bite melting in my mouth and the egg and chicken rice was yummy. My partner had the meat tower which we ordered on recommendation and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very attentive and personable and the meals are reasonable priced. I highly recommend giving Spice of India
