We arrived 20 minutes late for our pre booked Christmas dinner and they were absolutely lovely! They said we can stay as long as we liked, the starter was lovely the Christmas dinner was cooked perfect and we took our dessert home. We also had a lovely lady called Broyn she made sure everything was perfect. Thank you! Will definitely book Christmas Day here again!

5 of us had lunch Saturday 8 Nov. Our server was brilliant. Kids (8 and 3) . Looking through the photos our server photo bombed us!! My fave pic. She was so patient and interacted with the children. The youngest was quite taken with 'the lady'. Food amazing as always. Must add all staff were great. Such a happy atmosphere.

Really disappointed today as we drove 25 minutes to get here we arrived at 7:30 for a roast to be told we had to wait twenty minutes as they might not be enough meat available. As we were waiting we had no interaction with the woman who looked like she didn't even work there as she was not in uniform who told us to wait as bookings were prioritised while the place was empty. Felt like our custom was a burden really disappointed. Would not recommend. The bartender was a nice guy and the man serving the food was a top bloke, always an upside.

I noticed they have different prices for different days of the week for the same good.
Being there over the weekend, I had to handle everytime a queue to get my food, but it was a decent waiting time. The cocktails were ok-ish and pricy.

We came back to Toby Carvery Cardiff Gate, and once again, we were absolutely delighted by the exceptional service—from Bron, her manager Ben, and her lovely colleague Caitlin.
Bron continues to shine every time we visit. She’s so kind, attentive, and effortlessly warm with everyone she serves. Her ability to make every guest feel welcome and looked after is truly something special. It’s clear she puts her heart into what she does, and it makes a huge difference to the overall experience.
We also want to highlight Ben, the manager, who sets a fantastic tone for the team. He’s approachable, supportive, and clearly leads by example. The atmosphere here is so positive and well-organized, and that kind of environment starts at the top.
Caitlin was equally brilliant—friendly, upbeat, and always ready with a smile. She worked seamlessly alongside Bron and Ben, helping to create a genuinely warm and welcoming vibe even on a busy day.
The food was as delicious and satisfying as ever—hearty portions, well-cooked roasts, and all the trimmings. But it’s truly the people at this location that make it stand out. The care, teamwork, and professionalism we saw today were absolutely top-notch.

Christmas lunch for 4 adults and 2 children today. We are regular Toby customers so were a bit worried it wouldn't have been special enough for the big day. But from the minute we walked in the atmosphere was really festive. The staff were excellent, in a festive mood and couldn't do enough for us. Food was beautiful as usual with the starters and puddings excelling!!! The bookings were staggered so no queuing and portions of roasts huge!!! Vegetarian options went down well. Always order off the too good to go app regularly and have never been disappointed with anything I have picked up yet.
Everything is all packed up nicely to go and always hot.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
And I only live a mile away from the Newport Toby carvery.
And although the staff are all lovely there as well and they are.
I just don't want to have to go to the chip shop and buy gravy for me dinner.
And I don't have to in Cardiff there just bang on every time.
And that's what I need coming from Newport.

After waiting to be seated, received a disinterested offer from an older woman to follow her to a table.. while she continued her conversation with another staff member. She obviously needs some basic training on how to welcome customers! Food was as expected, but many of the condiments hadn't been replenished, so we had to wait 3-4 minutes while our food got cold before a tiny pot of cranberry sauce was produced, enough for only 2-3 people. Definitely not worth the money, so won't be returning.

Went for lunch today, just 2 of us. A lot busier which was nice to see. Food was good , queue soon went down. We had a lovely waitress her name was Samm, she was so homely and inviting and helping me choose a drink. She was very professional as well. Need to hang on to her!!!!
Yes we'll come again soon but can you bring back the Parsley sauce for gammon please.
