Great micropub with an excellent range of beers and ciders from casks, cans and bottles. Martin and Diane run a fabulous, welcoming place, with friendly regulars. There's also the infamous quiz most Monday evenings, with Martin's fiendish questions - particularly the specialist subjects.

This is a really cute place to visit. When you come in, you can choose from the draughts on the special board, or ask for recommendations, or even have a look in 'the book' (stock listed by type, percentage, brewery etc). There's a good selection of 0% or low percentage beers too. Cathays Beer House takes both cash and card payment. It's very affordable! It's a small place, so if you're sitting at a big table on your own, and then a group walks in, it would be reasonable to consider moving to a different seat. Other things you might be interested in knowing: Fish tank in the corner (look don't touch!). Toilet facilities are available and clean/tidy but limited (because it's a small venue). Selection of books and games. In case this is important for anyone to know- I'm female, and have often come here and had a drink on my own, whilst reading a book or magazine. I feel perfectly safe and happy here, and always have. I first visited in 2019 and try to visit whenever schedule and bank balance allows.
An amazing micropub in the Crwys Road in Cathays, probably one of the best in Cardiff! This apparently used to be the post office, as I’m told. Interesting! A lovely atmosphere with a fantastic selection of beers, ciders and ales - served straight out of the barrels, apart from the those that comes in bottles and cans. Although it can't accomodate more than 20-30 at a time, it's a lovely place to hangout and have a good time. It can be confirmed by the fact that most of its customers are regulars. The ambience is also amazing with some vintage posters on the wall and lighting. It's also got wooden tables/ seats and an aquarium. The main reason to visit this place is, of course, Martin - the gentleman who runs the pub. He's such an amazing and hospitable host!! I've been there quite a few times - and have tried various beers/ ales. However, I couldn't grasp of their names though, as the beers stored in the barrels change everytime, and I always go with the ones that Martin suggests. These names are quite offbeat, that I haven't probably heard anywhere else. There's snacks as well - packeted and the ones served in jugs - like scrapings, crisps, nuts etc. All of these are priced £1-£3. Another feature is that it's dog friendly, and a lot of our furry friends enjoy their visit here every single day. Oh also, there's outdoor seating overlooking the ever busy Crwys road traffic lights. There are a lot of activities one can do here too. Martin hosts a pub quiz on Mondays every other week. There's a lot of board games/ card games one can get involved in while spending time there, too! Overall, an amazing place that I wouldn't mind going to every day of the week. Cracking micropub not too far out of Cardiff centre. Well kept ales, gravity poured. Good selection in the fridge too. Friendly staff and regulars. Will return to top up the entries on my loyalty card :-)
Great micro pub. Excellent beer, excellent cider (so I've been told) and fantastic banter. Make sure you buy Phil a pint, because he's a legend. If you want a great pub near the 'diff, this is the place to be!
