Excellent priced hotel, straight outside the train station. Me and my Wife booked in for the night as we were going to a show at the Victoria Theatre just 5 minute walk away. Very speedy check in and out. Clean, spacious and very comfortable. A good night sleep had by us both. Paid £44 for a Saturday night, whats not to like.

Undergoing some fairly major improvements the old dark wood has been upgraded to a light & airy space. The rooms are clean, but looking a bit 'tired', hopefully the upgrade continues room by room by which time this hotel will be an absolute cracker. The staff are friendly & very happy to help in any way. Great location, close to the Piece Hall & the Parish Church, just across the road from the railway station. Definitely one to watch.

Great location opposite the train station. Bed comfy. Clean. Bathroom needs some attention the mixer shower was like something out of the 80s, flooring was discoloured and squeaky. But other than that a nice place to stay.

It cost £50 a night.. so its not going to be a 5 star hotel.. if your looking for a decent comfy bed for the night, situation in the heart of Halifax then that's what you get. Tea coffee in the room, shower& bath, good size TV. A little dated but all OK.

I booked online, although the room was only £45 for the night it was very outdated, carpet was dirty, beds creaked, floor boards creaked, the bath tap got stuck and wouldn't turn off. Tiny little kettle, no hairdryer like it said. I was informed when checking in I had to pay an holding fee of £100 when I questioned it the member of staff was a little rude. The location is perfect but the hotel not so good. Would not stay again.

I was pleasantly surprised to be given an executive suite! It is a lovely suite with a reception room and bathroom downstairs. The beautiful bedroom is upstairs. You get a 180 degrees view of the city from this suite, boasting of 5 windows. I will definitely be going back again as soon as they finish the planned upgrade starting from today.

Staff wasn't great cleanliness was appalling staff just sit a reception carpet in entrance and stairs was covered in mess not a good impression walking in and seeing that. When leaving wasn't any conversation about how was your stay was everything ok with your room etc. Was in room 108 one of windows doesn't shut properly so was a draft all night. Asked reception if was possible to have more tea and milk was willing to pay gave us some coffee but said wasn't any milk behind reception and that was it wasn't even bothered. Would i stay here again No not a chance just want your money and don't care about anything else was well disappointed

Oh dear, what a disappointment. We originally booked this hotel in December 2019 for a concert at the Piece Hall, which was deferred four times, but finally took place this September. We opted for this hotel based on its proximity to the Piece Hall, sadly this was one of the very few good points about it. DO NOT be fooled by the photographs and reviews on its website or other booking sites. One of the other reasons for booking was the attractive front courtyard area, with its stone cobbles, benches and planting to screen it from the road, so we could hopefully enjoy some late summer, early autumn weather. Sadly, this area has been obliterated – the cobbles have been removed and replaced with badly laid tarmac, all the planters are gone and only three rickety picnic-style tables remain. What a shame. And, inevitably, other nearby hotels and bars with outdoor seating areas were packed with concertgoers. At check-in we were informed - for the first time, despite claims that we had been emailed - that breakfast was served only at the weekend. We were there Thursday to Tuesday and had paid extra for breakfast. We assume either the kitchen was undergoing refurbishment or they were short-staffed. We did have breakfast on one day and it was okay, if a little over-greasy. As for the bedrooms, the website photos show pleasant, clean-looking accommodation, but the room we were offered was none of those, being tired, grubby and musty. On asking to be moved, thankfully we were placed in one of the refurbished rooms – not perfect but a huge improvement. Whilst this hotel is probably in transition due to a recent change of ownership, I have to question why guests are allowed into rooms that are frankly sub-standard. Other common parts of the hotel were also clearly in transition, but, worryingly, you could simply walk into areas that resembled a cross between a building site and a council dump. For instance, the public bar area was separated only by a curtain! I would not want an inquisitive small child wandering off into one of these areas. They should be properly isolated from the public and are surely a concerning Health & Safety issue. The bar area had zero atmosphere and the bar itself looked like it had been burgled – hardly any spirits, vacant fridges, only two draught beers available (both lagers) and wine that I would not put on a portion of chips. Other than location, I have tried to find positives. The two managers were very pleasant, but seemed to be inundated with guest’s problems – missing kettles, no coffee/tea in the rooms and in our case even no batteries in the TV remote! The young team were pleasant and willing to help, but always seemed to be running about like headless chickens – I felt a little sorry for them. I really hope that this hotel can pick itself up. The location is superb – right opposite Halifax railway station, a minute from the Piece Hall and five minutes to the centre of town. It has such potential and you can see glimpses of better days, such as in the great-sized function room called The Archives, albeit looking a bit forlorn through lack of use. This hotel could be amazing, but right now it is nothing like amazing, except in the worst sense. I could not recommend anyone to stay there – such a shame.

We stayed here for 3 nights, the room was fairly basic and small but clean, a lovely shower in a modern bathroom. A very good breakfast was served in the library, which holds a very impressive collection of literature. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

The building has some fantastic original features and the staff are absolutely lovely, the location is also very handy along with hotel-owned free parking nearby. The reason this is only a 3* review is that the rooms aren't wonderful. The one we stayed in was worn and dated (but clean). As we walked through corridors and up stairs to get to it the building got colder; the room was very cold too. It had a few issues such as loose plug sockets and a shower that runs hot and cold (possibly depending on what other guests are doing). In the morning the breakfast was very good and the service was great. There is a good selection for cooked or non-cooked meals as well as teas and coffees. The dining/bar area has had a more recent revamp and is a very nice place to sit and eat. We didn't book an expensive room as this was a last minute emergency trip, so we did not pay a high rate. If we had paid more I think we would have been disappointed, especially because ours didn't look like any room on the booking website/app gallery, even the smaller ones! We tried to check in around 2 hours early, but decided against this after finding out there would be a £20 charge. This place does need money throwing at things such as bathrooms and general, small maintenance. You get what you pay for, and this isn't a bad place at all but its not the sort of place I'd recommend either.
