We have had a wonderful holiday at The Old Sweet Shop. A beautiful house in a fantastic location. Well-equipped and comfortable. The hot tub was enjoyed and well-used. The gardens were loved, and we particularly liked sitting in the top garden for meals. George loved the well-filled toy box. Grace loved the window seats for her quiet moments. There are lovely walks down to the beach and up to the church. From the Little Book of Walks, we chose the Bossington Circular Walk and the Dunkery Beacon trail. It was very good exploring different aspects of Exmoor. We will always remember the view of the church and the white houses from the beach. A beautiful holiday. Thank you.”

Beautiful place, we absolutely loved our stay! Very friendly and accommodating owner. Impeccably clean, tidy and full of character. Lovely hot tub in a beautiful garden setting, not overlooked in the slightest. Very well provisioned kitchen, log burner in the lounge and a great place to hang out with family, loads of good places to visit on the doorstep. I highly recommend!!

We have just returned from another stay at The Old Sweet Shop. This time we celebrated our Son in Law's 40th Birthday. Lucy and her team decorated the cottage with banners and balloons and we had a lovely time. I would highly recommend this beautiful, comfortable and well equipped cottage. It is a gorgeous spot on North Hill. Peaceful and quiet with lovely views and walks from the doorstep or a short drive to the top of North Hill with access to many walks on Moorland and through beautiful Coombes. The cottage is also within walking distance to all the amenities of Minehead so the best of both worlds !

We had a fabulous break and the cottage has was everything we hoped it would be. Plenty of space, comfy beds, well located, cosy fire, gorgeous roll top bath etc etc. And it was so well-equipped – quite possibly the best-equipped cottage we've ever stayed in! There wasn't anything in the kitchen that we wished we had - from sharp knives (such a rarity in rental properties), hand blender, garlic press, meat thermometer - all cooking needs were covered. The hot tub was a real treat and even a bit of rain didn’t stop us enjoying it almost every day. The garden was so beautiful at this time of year, and so peaceful (except during bell ringing practice on Friday night!) – lovely to sit out on the few times we saw the sun! Lucy’s walk leaflets are great and really helpful inspiration for things to do. We loved the complimentary high quality toiletries (and lovely bubble bath) and all the efforts to be as eco/sustainable as possible.. The kids loved the Easter eggs on the welcome tray – thank you!

Such an amazing, spotless and beautiful house. We settled in straight away making it feel like a home away from home. A very relaxing and comfortable stay and the hot tub providing the relief after the walks with the dogs! We return each year, but this time to another of Lucy’s cottages and we are never disappointed. Thank you for the warm welcome.”

Stayed here twice now, and all I can say is I wish I lived in it. The house and garden are just amazing and the hot tub is next level. I'll 100% be staying here again in the future.

A wonderful cottage full of character and history yet with all the modern comforts. The cottage is well maintained and beautifully clean with a very pretty garden. We especially appreciated the friendly emails and calls prior to our stay. We were made to feel extremely welcome with cake, fresh milk and a small bone biscuit for our dog!

We arrived to a beautiful homely cottage. The sweet smell on opening the door was amazing, each room had a beautiful diffuser, The cottage was immaculately cleaned and a lovely lemon cake left for us. The kitchen had every utensil needed for our stay. The garden is stunning, I particularly liked sitting in the summer house admiring the views, well done to the gardener, he was soaked tending to it on our stay. We loved the hot tub, great to come back to after a long day, the lady who tendered to it daily was very nice. We visited Dunster Castle, Lynton (no parking so we couldn’t stay) which was such a shame as it looked so pretty, Watchet. Porlock, Exeter and watched the Steam Train depart. Minehead town itself was a little disappointing. I would thoroughly recommend The Old Sweetshop, my husband read the history about the shop, it is fascinating. I’d like to thank Lucy, you were very kind to us, the cleaning team for the hard work making the cottage a splendid place to stay and the hot tub lady (sorry. I can’t remember your name!) for keeping it clean for us to use. You all made our stay fantastic xxx

Thank you for a wonderful week. What a magical experience! Stepping through the door of ‘The Old Sweet Shop’ conjured up childhood memories as the front door bell tinkled. The whole atmosphere was of sweetness and calm, everything was beautifully presented. The garden is a haven of tranquillity, a place to rest and listen to the birdsong, complemented by the added benefit of the views of St Michael’s church adding to the feeling of a bygone era. We enjoyed sitting together in such spacious surroundings as family time doesn’t happen often and so this made for precious memories. The hot tub was the icing on the cake and it became a meeting point – “I’ll meet you in the hot tub”. This was a new experience for me too. All credit to you and your team for creating a little piece of heaven that is much-needed today. Thank you for the special effort for my 70th birthday too!” You can find The Old Sweet Shop

We’ve had a wonderful stay in The Old Sweet Shop. It completely exceeded our expectations. The cottage had everything we could possibly want and more! The dogs loved all the different areas in the garden. It was great to have a shaded area as the weather was so hot. We ate twice in The Old Ship Aground. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. We had a lovely roast dinner at The Quay Inn – very good value for money and all our plates were empty! We did the Tarr Steps walk with our dogs. It was wonderful, very scenic and the dogs loved jumping in and out of the river. We crossed the ancient giant stone bridge – amazing! And at the end, we ate ice creams in the Tarr Farm Inn. We were too early for lunch but the menu looked lovely. We also took a walk in Dulverton. The dogs were off the lead all the way as there was no livestock. Part of the route followed a river and the rest was woodland which at some points was quite steep. This was fantastic as it was almost all in the shade – great for all in the hot weather. We had a superb lunch at The Bridge Inn. We also visited Dunster Castle, beautiful gardens, a watermill and lots to see within the castle. We had a lovely lunch in Tessa’s Tea Rooms in the village – where there are lots of vegan and gluten-free options. Our trip was made a little more special by taking the steam train one stop from Minehead to Dunster. We were very impressed with how close we were to the town centre where you can pick up everything you need. We loved the Flapjackery in Minehead – lots to choose from. Will definitely be back!
