We were recommended to come here and it absolutely lived up to expectations. The service was friendly and personable. The food was very comforting and extremely filling. The restaurant and vibes were homely. The food was delicious and yummy. My brother loved the mince meat boxy and the best on the menu was the dessert - sticky toffee pudding was utterly yummy.

Fully recommend this gem, near Queens University. Me and my partner went here for our anniversary and it was the perfect meal. I had the beef boxty and it was so tasty and the portion was large, the service was also very attentive and we felt very welcome. Expect to pay a little more here but you definitely get your money’s worth.

We booked this restaurant based on the excellent reviews, and we were not disappointed with the venison or the cottage pie — both were delicious and full of flavour. Unfortunately, the ground beef boxty was rather dry, leaving me wondering if the gravy had been forgotten, though that may simply come down to personal preference. What did disappoint us, however, were the chips! They were certainly not hand-cut as described — instead, they resembled poor-quality frozen chips fried in old oil. We raised this twice with the staff, who insisted they were hand-cut, but I remain unconvinced. That said, the staff were friendly and attentive throughout, which we appreciated. Overall, while some dishes shone, attention to detail could greatly improve the dining experience.

Came here based on the reviews and we weren’t disappointed. The service was friendly and personable. The restaurant and vibes were homely. The food was very comforting and extremely filling. Very good value for money. After travelling with airplane food and lots of snacks, the delicious and wholesome food was much needed. My dad and uncle absolutely devoured their chicken boxtys in a few minutes even though it took up more than half the plate and was filled to the brim with chicken and the delicious sauce. The pork belly bites were also inhaled by the table. The sauce of the feather blade was delicious! Unfortunately everyone was too full to even think about sharing the pudding but I’m sure it would have been amazing.

This was our first time trying Irish food, and it was absolutely amazing—rich in flavour and truly delicious. Knowing the restaurant’s popularity, we made sure to book a table in advance. We arrived a bit early, and there were already people waiting outside, which gave me a good feeling about what was to come. The food did not disappoint. I particularly enjoyed the soup—it was fresh, flavourful, and comforting. The main courses were also excellent, especially the cottage pie. The flavours were bold and well-balanced, with a rich, savoury gravy that brought everything together beautifully. Every bite offered a satisfying combination of textures and tastes. The only slight letdown was the Belfast lager, which I found a bit too sour for my taste. Those who enjoy Tiger beer might appreciate it more, but I would personally recommend sticking with Guinness—it’s a classic that never fails. I also sampled the Red Label whiskey, which was impressively strong and warming. All in all, it was a fantastic experience, and I’ll definitely be coming back. Sending long-lasting love from Edinburgh!

Had a Valentines meal here with my partner. The boxty and sticky toffee pudding were amazing and the amaretto fizzy cocktail was lovely. Staff are so lovely, too. Highly recommended.

I came here on my first day in Belfast and i definitely don’t regret it. I had the chicken, chorizo and tarragon cream holohans pan boxty with broccoli and green beans and it was all so delicious!!! For the first time i tried a strawberry cider and it was also so tasty. Finally i tried the lemon posset and it was soo good!! Overall great place with a nice location and homely atmosphere, you can tell they are well known and the staff is very friendly too!

Good gracious! This place is so homey, so rustic, the vibe is so good. This is what I had on my visit: Holohan's Pan Boxty (£10): I got the salmon option. It's really delicious overall, seasoned perfectly. The sauce is not too heavy not overpowering, fish is great, veggies also fresh. Portion's enough for me. This is gonna be my go to menu every time I come here. Sticky toffee pudding (£6): I absolutely love it, every single component! Though I thought the portion would be slightly bigger, but the taste pays that off. Enjoyed the dessert! Worth every penny. Service is also great. On my visit, one of the guys kindly briefed me with the menu (maybe he could tell that it's my first time here), which for me is a sign of good hospitality. It's recommended to book your table before coming cause the ground floor is not really that big and I don't know about their second floor seating (not sure if they even have that one, didn't notice that on my visit). Overall, I will definitely come back again for their other menu. Great job, Holohan's!
