Bites of India Botanic – Belfast Review During a short visit to Belfast, we were searching for a Halal restaurant and came across Bites of India, encouraged by its strong Google reviews. Initially, the experience seemed promising, but it turned out to be mixed for several reasons. Positives • Warm Welcome: The staff were friendly and accommodating from the start. They even allowed us to take advantage of their noon offer earlier than scheduled, which was a nice gesture. • Good Value Offer: The two-course meal for £12.99 sounded appealing and set high expectations. • Quick Service: Our dishes arrived promptly, which was appreciated. • Taste Quality: The flavors of the dishes were generally very good. We sampled a variety of items—meat and chicken dishes with rice and bread—and the seasoning and preparation were impressive. Drawbacks • Portion Size: This was the biggest disappointment. The rice portions served with the main dishes were shockingly small—just a few spoonfuls. When we ordered an extra side of rice, it came in a much larger portion, which raised questions. When we asked about this, the staff responded defensively, insisting the small portion was “normal” and that “everyone is happy with it.” This attitude felt unprofessional and left a negative impression. • Masala Tea: We requested masala tea at the start of the meal, but it was served at the end. Unfortunately, the tea was very basic—more like regular tea with milk and minimal spice flavor—and served in a very small cup. Compared to similar Indian restaurants, this was underwhelming. • Value for Money: While the taste was good, the overall experience did not justify a five-star rating, especially when compared to similar restaurants in cities like Edinburgh that offer better quality and portion sizes for the same or even lower prices. Overall Impression Bites of India has potential, thanks to its flavorful dishes and friendly staff. However, the portion sizes, defensive customer service, and lackluster tea experience significantly detract from the overall value. For these reasons, I cannot rate this restaurant as highly as I had hoped.

We’ve come here several times predominantly for their Dosa/Thosai because you can’t find this anywhere in NI and they make it so authentically well I feel like I’m back home in Malaysia eating it. Their Sambar always comes hot and it hits the spot. Their chutneys are all amazing. Highly recommend this place.

I tried masala dosa from bites of India, Belfast. The food is delicious. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. The ambience is lovely. I can’t wait to come back to the restaurant to try more items. I will definitely share my experience with my family and friends.

We had high expectations when visiting Bites of India, but unfortunately the food didn’t quite meet them. We ordered the biryani, which turned out to be more like rice and chicken mixed with masala rather than an authentic biryani – quite disappointing. On the positive side, the service was attentive and the location is excellent. The atmosphere was fine, though nothing special. Perhaps we just chose the wrong dish, so we might give it another try with something different next time

Bites of India I have been two times there and had punjabi and south Indian food with starter. Taste was good compair to other Indian restaurant in belfast. Average cost per person for that would be £15. Pros: 1. Good taste 2. Location 3. Seating Arrangement Cons: 1. Quite Costly 2. Slow Service 3. More Vegetables than Curry in main course 4. Less Quantity

My wife and I went out for a dinner after several months and therefore it had to be good and this new branch of Bites of India didn't disappoint! The staff are amazing and so are the foods. They offer a decent variety and quality isn't compromised. Would definitely recommend. If you are ordering a take away main course then do check explicitly whether complimentary rice/naan is provided along with it.

Love the food and the service was great too. The food was very authentic, spicy (just like we like it) and very tasty. Will recommend this place to everyone who is looking to lift their spirits on a rainy day in Belfast

One of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to. I visited Kathmandu Kitchen twice during my stay in Belfast and I never felt disappointed. I was able to try a variety of dishes such as Momo, Naan, Himalayan Curry, Saag ra Paneer, Matter Paneer, Rogan Josh, Egg Fried Rice… everything tasted amazing. The staff was very accommodating as they made sure the dishes would fit our taste. Thank you for hosting us, I will never forget you!

Friendly service and flavourful dishes. Both curries were delicous. The lamb on the bone was in particular one of the best curries I have had in the UK. Would be my regular curry house if I was a local.
