I popped in here the other day, as my daughter's feet needed measuring. I wanted to see if they had any hiking boots, as we do a lot of walking on the moors and in forests. I was met by an older gentleman, and asked if I could get her feet measured. His answer was, as long as you're buying something yes. I was taken aback by his abruptness and asked whether they sold hiking boots, to which he stated he did not, but that they had other day to day boots in stock. I had a look at the boots that were reduced, thinking that I was happy to buy a second pair anyway, as no doubt her feet had grown. He asked what size I was looking for, and I said I don't know as she needs measuring and politely smiled at him. He again stated he won't measure her as I'm not purchasing anything. I said to him, how can I purchase it I don't know what size she is, to be met with him being off with me. I was a little annoyed at this time and said it's fine I'll go somewhere else, for him to then say that if I didn't get her feet measured correctly I will ruin her feet, and that each pair of boots are totally different from one another. I'm sorry but I've had my daughter's feet measured many times for school shoes and hiking boots, and she's had countless pairs. She's hiked Snowdon and the Wainwrights with great boots. If she's a 2 she's a 2 or I go up half a size. I simply just wanted to know what actual size she was, all shoes are the same, I get the width will change, and that I may need to go up a half size or one size in a boot or trainer, I just would have liked her feet measured. There shouldn't be an obligation to buy shoes, and if he was that bothered about her feet being damaged, then why not just measure her. It's a shame, as being the only local shoe store to us now, as Clark's has gone, I would have gone in to get decent school shoes, however I've now bought a home measurer and will order them online. I shall await the response to this review, as it appears there's always a defence, but I will say, that it doesn't take a lot to be kind and helpful.

We knew exactly what size and type of shoe, found it and had it ready to buy. There were three staff and not a single one acknowledged us, even when waiting by the till behind a customer that was currently paying. It was a little busy with families buying school shoes, but they continued to serve people who came in after us! It was very disappointing to have 3 workers just walk past and not even acknowledge we were waiting.

Not a very good experience for myself or my 11 month old son, my son has just started leaning to walk assisted and I wanted to introduce shoes. I had told the person who served us that he has never worn shoes before and it's all new to him and that we have just come in to measure him up, the server was very pushy in my opinion and was was adamant with putting the shoes on him and my son became very upset it's all new to him which was expected what wasn't expected was the state my son got in and the server being very persistent and wouldn't allow me to attempt to put the shoe on my son myself until I had to mention the idea, my son got in a very upset state, over all it was not a very nice experience for either of us and I will not be attending the shop again

Very pleasant experience shopping for shoes and sandals for our 4 year old grandson. Expert staff who still measure your child's feet and there is a wide variety of trainers, shoes, boots and sandals at very reasonable prices, including Skechers and Start Rite. Would highly recommend and will be coming back to get his school shoes in September.

What a great kids shoe shop! Staff were excellent - fully measured my 1 year old up and were so good with him. Huge range of shoes for boys and girls - they seem high quality but are £35 to £45 each. Don’t judge a book by its cover - worth a visit!

Having Googled where my nearest Startrite supplier was, my daughter and I headed to SFTS with the purpose of finding her first school shoes! From the moment we stepped through the door we were met with the warmest welcome and instantly asked if we needed any help! My daughter was measured and and we were shown a huge array of styles in her size to try! The service was friendly and professional and the staff are so knowledgeable. All in all, a simply wonderful experience in a fantastic family business! Can't wait to return!!

Brilliant shop, I take my 3 year old son here and he always gets shoes that he likes (and a wide range of shoes that actually fit his wide, high-instepped feet). The man who deals with us gives plenty.of time to choose, try on and ensures they are a good fit. Been going here for 18 months and wouldn't go anywhere else.

I have been visiting the shop for well over 3 years. We buy our children's school shoes from here. I buy my shoes from here. I am yet to find a grumpy face in the shop. The staff are always fantastic and lovely. They greet you with a smile and are happy to serve you. They invite loyalty because they are so great. Thoroughly recommend everyone to use the shop.
