I had the most bizarre experience here today. I attended to return a faulty printer. I was asked for proof of purchase which I provided. I was asked what was wrong with it and replied that it didn’t work. She looked at me sceptically and asked ‘when did you buy it’ and she read out the date. She said ‘I have to take it out the back to check if it works’. I said ‘ok but the 30 day return policy doesn’t apply to faulty items’. She replied ‘I have to test it’. I have never had a shop tell me they are going to test an electrical product that is reported as faulty with proof of purchase and guarantee. I said ‘ok’. After about five minutes no one had spoken to me then a second member of staff came out and said ‘you’re the printer man aren’t you’. I replied ‘yes’. He then said ‘go and sit down over there’. No please or request just an order. I replied ‘I don’t want to sit down’. I have a medical condition and it’s better for me to stand. I did not want to explain the ins and outs of that to him or indeed this forum but sitting or standing is personal choice. It was clear they were discussing me for him to do that. He replied ‘well shimmy back we need room for collections’. Again no please or a request, just an off hand order. I stepped back. I waited a further few minutes with no communication at all. The 2nd member of staff walked by and I asked him what the delay was. He replied ‘she’s checking it’ and I asked ‘what for?’, he said ‘to see if it works, we do that with all of our returns’. I have been a customer at Argos for 30 years and never had an item tested and never have I seen them check. I do not believe it to be normal practice. It was clear they were talking about me in the back room and there was suspicion of me. I do not understand why as I had proof of purchase and the item is under guarantee. I asked why he was so brusque and what the issue was. He replied ‘I’ll film you if you’re going to be rude’ and pointed at a camera on his chest. I replied that he was welcome to film me and that I had nothing to hide. He was being confrontational and rude and for that reason I would welcome the camera. He said ‘No I don’t have to use it, we are being filmed and pointed to the shop CCTV’. This was a bizarre escalation considering that nobody had yet spoken to me about the return of the printer. They clearly had been talking about me and I felt very under suspicion. It was horrible and embarrassing. To protect myself I recorded the rest of the conversation on my phone. A third member of staff came out after a while (they kept going back into the storeroom) and I asked what the issue was with the return. He said ‘I can’t comment I wasn’t here’. That made no sense and I articulated I meant about the return. He said he couldn’t comment and left. A fourth member of staff came out. His opening gambit was that he was going to call the police. I recorded the conversation and during it he stated I was in a private place and that it was illegal to to record. Neither of which is true as an open shop gives implied consent to enter and it is not illegal to record. Again this is ironic because it was Argos staff that said they would record me. I was doing it to protect myself. I asked him to put his camera on and he refused. This whole thing is classic gaslighting. Please remember that all I am trying to do is return a faulty product with proof of purchase. He then told me the transaction was over and that he was going to call the police (he handed the printer back with no explanation). I replied I had nothing to hide and to go ahead as I haven’t done anything wrong. A police dispatcher called me and I explained the madness that had occurred. He told me to speak to Argos head office. I explained I hadn’t been given a reason for the refusal of return so didn’t know what to report to Argos head office and asked if he could help and ask he staff. He said ‘that’s not my job’. He was not impartial. The whole thing was so massively unfair and avoidable I can’t believe it happened. Avoid at all costs.

Worst Argos about. Staff are incompetent and rude. Jonny was extremely unhelpful and refused to complete a return. Went to a different store and they returned it straight away.

Went in to do a refund the one staff member was so lovely the blond boy, but the manager was beyond rude, unprofessional, immature, zero customer service skills and so unhelpful. The service was beyond disgraceful and disappointing, the manager thought he ran the whole place thought he was being a manager and doing his job, but yet didn’t even come close. Not for one minute did he let me speak about how I wasn’t satisfied with my purchase just continued aggressively speaking over me and saying „can I finish?” When he was speaking over me I was in such disbelief, that someone who is the so called manager would act that way towards a customer. HR needs to train their manager to mature, understanding, polite and have better customer skills. Absolutely disappointing!

The problem with all these places is lack of staff. Sainsbury’s is a very wealthy company and yet you’re standing waiting to collect an item on a bank holiday weekend and there’s one hapless person trying to do everything. I walked away. Maybe I’ll collect my item another day or maybe I’ll just leave it to be cancelled? It is pathetic what shopping has become and all because of greed. PAY someone a decent wage to do the work necessary for your business to succeed.

Very poor experience at Argos Forestside. Was told that my broken product needed to be taken home and manufacturer contacted. Shocked that the store refused to deal with the matter as brought TV from Argos not LG. Contract of sale is with Argos. Was never informed of this arrangement before purchasing nor was I granted my consumer rights as it was a faulty purchase. Manager most unhelpful and appeared to be unaware of current legislation.

I have to add to peoples bad experience. 2 queues for collection and I was in the first q and ignored for 10 mins. The guy with the glasses, not the younger guy needs to be retrained in customer service. No stairs from me, horrendous. To add ordered a item for collection and it was delayed 6 days which meant had only 1 day to collect rather than the usual 7. When I tried to pick up on the 8 days I was told it would be sent back and couldn’t get it even thou it was there. Argos policies are seriously flawed!

Very helpful staff. No waiting on purchase either. Saves a trip into town too so a welcome addition to Forestside

Head office need to educate the store management and staff on the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and honouring warranties. I returned my faulty product three times with the receipt and each time quoted my consumer rights. Each time they fobbed me off to the manufacturer even though it is the retailer who is responsible. When I phoned Argos HQ they told me that 'some stores take a different approach'. Unfortunately for Argos consumer law is not something you can pick and choose. Thankfully Argos Holywood Exchange did a straight swap and their well mannered staff member even commented that the Forestside branch is renowned for not honouring warranties. Sort it out.

Brought back a scooter which was £250 to argos forestside. Before I even had it on the stand to show it had stopped working, the woman with glasses, working Saturday morning, 28 February 2022, said not to do it, she would not deal with any complaints for any item purchased 370 days ago. She gave me a phone and told me to ring the manufacturer as she would not have anything to do with the issue. And when I had the phone? She stood and laughed with her colleague about it. Actually. Treated like scum, while my two children had to watch. I cannot emphasise how much you need to avoid this branch of argos.

Argos managed to send a delivery driver to me without my order: a very odd conversation on the doorstep and a waste of a day. Rather than resend the item, Argos marked it as 'returned' and kept the delivery charge. Now have just wasted another day after being told to be in for the delivery between 7am and 9pm (!) but they decided to just not turn up this time and only let me know at 10pm. They have refused to deliver to one of their own stores to hold items for us. Their help chat system likes to use smiley emojis which is unhelpful when you are trying to find out why their delivery system is so utterly inept and bureaucratic. Would not recommend and would not use again. Would give 0 stars if I could. :)
